I'm super happy with him. I don't know the story well enough to go deep with the NECA stuff, so he's a perfect fit for my humble little TMNT Collection.

I’d also say to take a look at Fury Toys “Not” Leonardo aka Spring, but his third party prices are ridiculous. It’s not Playmates, but the adult collector audience is there.

I got this figure from Dorkside Toys during their Going out of Business Sale, and I was BLOWN AWAY at just how GREAT it is! Not just for the sale price I got it for($10 If I recall), but even for retail I'd say, which I believe was $20 or $30... I admit $30 would be kind of pushing it, but the quality of this Playmates figure is basically like a PREMIUM Vintage TMNT figure, with paint applications, articulation and accessories that go beyond what the Vintage toys did, but still feels reminiscent of the old Playmates TMNT line. I would LOVE to see more TMNT properties get this "Updated Vintage" treatment... like 2003 TMNT figures in the old Vintage style, or 2012, or perhaps updated 1990 Turtles, since the original one's were pretty darn rough... or even taking the old Wave 1 Figures, resculpting them a bit and adding some articulation and more detailed paint applications and stuff... They could charge $18-20 for each and I'd definitely be in if the quality was comparable to this Ronin figure!

I have messed around slightly. Biggest being a repaint of a Funko Mech from TitanFall 2 and then sculpting a beard to the Tobey Maguire Spider-man and painting it to look like me lol

I saw this at a pop up sale a comic shop near me does often, sadly I didn't have room in my budget to add him on. He's pretty cool looking though. And if you havent read the comic I highly recommend it, it's really dark but its really good.

Surprisingly I ended up LOVING this version of the Ronin figure over NECA's which I'm passing on. As for this version I also got the Chaste black and white one. Love it!

I was impressed by this figure when I finally got it…didn’t expect it to be vintage turtle sized, though. I assumed it would be the same size as their “classic” turtle figures when I ordered it. I think I prefer the smaller size, though. My only complaint would be the ankles, I think. Better ankle rocker would have been a plus. But, at least Playmates showed us they can and will make decent collector figures.

@@KootenaiKing I’d love to see them do it. They could print money. It would have been nice to see them do it before Super7 jumped in to TMNT, though. Edit: Thinking about it some more, they could be successful with it if they can keep the prices reasonable. A lot of people have large TMNT collections already and might not be interested in starting new ones (I personally don't have the space for it!). But, if they can keep the figures to less than $30 and produce them at the same level as their Ronin figure, they could do OK. They'd also present a less expensive entry point than Super7 as well as a line of smaller figures that would be easier to fit on shelves. The TMNT market is just so crowded right now with NECA, Super7, the stuff Playmates already does, the "Fury" toys (or whatever they are called), BST AXN, the upcoming Mezco figures, etc. Playmates is in a unique position in that they are the granddaddies of TMNT toys...I just hope they aren't too late to make inroads into the collector space.

I think it's safely in the realm of Playmates and mostly recommend it for vintage collectors. NECA is my preferred route.

@NostalgiaUnboxed bodycount is the most violent edgelord and gory of the turtles comic about casey and raph going on a berserk rampage killing abunch of this johnny wuwu goons, then image tmnt vol.3 / tmnt urban legends because raph has his face melted off and has to wear caseys mask and he becomes shredder leo gets his hand bitten off Donatello gets riddled with machine gun bullets dropped out a helicopter from30 feet in the air becomes crippled cyborg with his carapace broken from the fall and he gets turned into a cyborg and splinter gets mutated into a bat mutant, and the original mirage comics are dark because they are nothing like the pizza junkie heroes in a half shell super heroes they are genuinely morally grey and behave the most like ninja who are assassins they kill shredder in issue one which leads them into the cycle of revenge of what orroku nagi shredders brother did which was caused domestic violence and attempted rape on tang shen and orroku saki was molded by the foot into becoming shredder for him to run a crime empire where yoshi and shen retreated to the og comic features tragic themes of them being the only ones of their kind what is their purpose outside of seeking revenge and practicing ninja and tons of messed up moments.

I am curious btw, why don't you read the comics? I mean, it's clear you like TMNT. I think you'd enjoy it. Also this one in particular (The Last Ronin) since it's a short self contained story you can get it cheaper and read it easy. Buying digital is even cheaper. You can get a physical copy of The Last Ronin (without The Lost Years) for cheaper than this figure. Might be something worth checking out. Though it might be a bit strange reading it without reading the Mirage comics because the concept of The Last Ronin springs from some conflict established in the Mirage comics. Basically taking Mirage Splinter's obsession for revenge and taking it to its logical conclusion and exploring the consequences. But as I said it is self contained and you'll be able to understand it without reading the Mirage comics probably.

Just not expecting story spoilers when I think we are just going to be talking about a toy... conversation should start and end there. Hell, I couldn't get that much from BECAUSE release slate so far since all Turtles are accounted for in the upcoming releases. But hey, it's your channel. I'm sorry. Just frustrated because I have avoided enough about the story and personally I have enough other shit going on that I'm behind on numerous TV, movies, and books, and I'm not the only one. Spoiler warnings, or something, can't assume everyone consumes at the same pace with recent stuff. Again, sorry. Not trying to be over of THOSE people, just frustrated

NECA Last Ronin is my figure of the year. I'll wait for NECA to release their toon version, pass on anything Playmates. Playmates spent the last 2 decades making sure their were no collector quality TMNT on the market.

@@NostalgiaUnboxed You jumped into Turtle collecting at a prime time. Before 2018 all we had was the NECA Mirage set and Playmates "Classics". Now you have BST Action, Super7, NECA, SHF, Amazing Yamaguchi, etc.
