    Have just watched The Last Rifleman on Sky Cinema. A beautiful lovely bitter sweet tribute to that generation of men and women. Not just Pierce Brosnan at his very best ,but also the rest of the cast are excellent as well.

    Now that you've seen the story, check out The Great Escaper with Michael Cain. Same story, same guy it's based on. Incredible movie and both Cain & Jackson gave their best performances. Cain announced his retirement at the premier and Jackson passed in July.

    Finally a film with substance and a story. Mr. Brosnan is a great actor. In an age where films are only about violence, CGI or comedy, it's great to see a film with a story, content and a purpose. ❤️👍😄

    I love that Jürgen Prochnow is in it. So we'll hopefully see two or three old soldiers with a bunch of horrific memories meet and be kind to each other. I am a sucker for such stories.

    In a German documentary on the making of Das Boot, cast and crew members related how they had waited with mounting excitement for the arrival of no-nonsense, hardcore Prochnow on the set. As it was, he turned up in a Citroen 2CV and was wearing Moses sandals.

    My late grandfather was in the Ulster Rifles. As well as D-Day, they were the main contingent of the BEF. Their use of the Lee Enfield was legendary. Nice to see a film tribute to them.

    Not hardly since Michael Caine played the exact same character in The Great Escaper this year, which is an absolute tour de force for Caine's last movie. If the story of Bernard Jordan (who Artie Crawford is based on) gets an Oscar, it will go to Caine's incredible performance over Brosnan's merely excellent one.

    That’s why it’s called acting. Dad would turn 99 this November. He was 19 when he jumped with 9 Para on D-Day. He lived to be 86, my namesake only reached 23, Lt Ian MacDonald 29 June 44.

    I have seen Micheal Caine in the Great Escaper and it was amazing. I am 64 and my Grandfather was at Normandy and survived. I am sure this was be equally a fantastic film by one of the best actors of our time. Cant wait.................

    I just heard about whole story of Quentin Tarantino and Pierce Brosnan originally pitching the idea of Casino Royal to the studio and fan demand is what made them decide to make that movie after they didn't want to do it. I hope Quentin will cast Pierce for his last movie, as well as other missed opportunity actors like Denzel Washington.

I know he's from Drogheda in the East of Ireland closer to Dublin than Belfast, and he all but lost that accent, but it's still strange to think he'll be playing an Irishman in his first film since 'The Long Good Friday'. Can't wait for this.

    An interesting coincidence is that in 'The Longest Day' (1962) Sean Connery played an Irish soldier serving in the British Army. I think the character's name was Private Flanagan.

    This is the same story as The Great Escaper which is starring Michael Cain as the same person; Bernard Jordan. I hate it when two companies bring out the same movie lol But I think I'd prefer Michael Cain and the late great Glenda Jackson.

    Except the two movies are about two different people, Caines is about an English navy vet at 89 escaping his care home for the 70th anniversary and Brosnan’s is about an Irishman (age unknown) who does the same on the 75th anniversary. Same kind of tales about two different guys.

    My Mom watched him in Remington Steele and when she heard he was going to play Bond, she was so excited...but she did not live to see it. My Dad said he was going to vote for Trump but he did not live long enough to do it, and I was going to vote for him, but could not bring myself to do it. Some things just do not happen.

    SoooOOOooOooo much better than I expected... Truly, i was expecting a remake of a similar movie, a lame tear jerker or at worst a feel good comedy but it was NOTHING like either! It was beautiful and RESPECTFUL and hopeful! I was so HAPPY they purposely showed his disdain for making light, pageantry or 'entertainment' out of war-history. It should NEVER BE GLORIFIED! The movie was fanatastic. Oh and WOW - can Mr Brosnan ACT!!! Amazing!
