The last Orchid Greenhouse Tour

Time to take a last look at the 'greenhouse' as probably by the time a new tour is due, I will no longer be living at this location. It has been an interesting, hard, but rewarding 8 years. Goodbye greenhouse!

    Hi, Danny! Do not listen to those “you people “ people! Your English and your pronunciation are excellent! In fact, you speak much more succinctly and are easier to understand than many people in this country (USA) who are native speakers. Thanks so much for your wonderful content ❤

    Danny, DEFINITELY have plants in other parts of the house! It is very soothing to have plants all over the house and it actually improves the air quality! My husband is always a little wary before I do a plant shelf project but he seems to love it when I finish.

    How rude! I can't imagine calling someone "you people." I bet that guy doesn't even speak another language. Your soothing voice is one of the reasons I watch your channel. You have obviously worked hard on your English and express yourself so well, even though it isn't your native language.

    Here's a suggestion for naming your new grow space: the conservatory, a name fitting for your beautiful orchids and plants. Packing and moving then unpacking and settling in can be a lot but soon enough any hassles will be just dim memories. Looking forward to seeing your new grow space and garden in the future! I'd be interested in seeing how you make a reservoir inside that repotme pot! Thanks for sharing one last tour of your current plant room! ❤

    So happy that the Tropical Chip started to adapt - if not this time, the next pseudobulb should bloom. And it could create a cluster of 3-4 flowers. The scent is strong and sweet. I was sure you'll find it reminiscent of the Tropical pointer galaxy ☺ And again like the grace dunn - my loddigesii is too struggling to produce roots, there's a new but rather frail growth... Oh boy! Can't wait for you to show us the new place. So very exciting 🥳 And good luck with the thrips! 🤞

    I love your little Slurpee cup makeshift terrariums. XD I might need to give that a shot. I had a tiny little hardware-store cattleya seedling that had managed to hang on for over a year, finally put out a tiny little shoot and another growth bud... And the shoot just decided to rot, and then the whole thing shrivelled to nothing. I feel like it would have done better if I'd had better control over its environment, but it was just on a shelf in my bedroom window, subject to the ambient humidity. Gotta get me some of those little cups to save the tiny babies from the onslaught of constant HVAC as the temp here gets up to 38° daily. @_@

  • @MissOrchidGirl

    @MissOrchidGirl

    Hi, this room had custom made shelves and I ended up regretting it and removing the shelves :) the cost is also not worth it, you also don’t save space.. also you always tend to want to change and move things according to the orchids and plants you have and when you can’t afford to manufacture or change shelves, it gets sad lol ikea ftw

    @@MissOrchidGirl I can see you’ve done your cost/benefit on that idea 😉. I’ve only experienced the space-saving in my small library/office, for books, but built-ins transformed a cramped room of mixed standing shelves overflowing with books into an airy open space w shelf room to spare. I measured & designed for what I needed, purchased the materials, and a handyman built them. It was pretty cost effective. I think they really need to be your own design rather than what worked for someone else, though. With orchids and lights, I can see how versatility is priority and probably drives up costs as well. You’re a fantastic planner so I know whatever you do will make a lovely green room 🌸🌺🌷🌼😀

  • @MissOrchidGirl

    Yes absolutely if you know what you want, you can design the room of your dreams! But often times I find that I want to either move things around, create a tall space for tall orchids, make the shelves less wide, less tall or taller, or raised, or even make a big ish terrarium. And that’s when the drama starts :)))

    Quick question for you and your expertise. I recently repotted a new Phal into an orchid pot (as it wasn't in one from the big box store) and orchid wood chip media. I did not presoak the media, which I definitely will in the future to help with water retention. My question is - is it normal for a newly repotted Phal in non presoaked media to require watering almost every other day? The leaves are starting to droop a bit, are not as perky as when initially purchased, and when I check the pot for wet/dryness with my finger, it's nearly bone dry after a day or two. I'm located in Idaho in the United States, which is hot and dry, so I'm sure that's contributing to the dry outs, in addition to the new orchid pot. I water via the soaking method for about 15 minutes. Thanks in advance for your content and insights!

    Oh, hey, also, how do you organize your SCHEDULE? I've only got like 20 orchids, but my memory is poot, and my executive function is fart. I'm not great at all at organizing when to water, feed, shift to different temperature areas... I just moved my brassavola hybrids outside in the hopes that the slightly shorter duration of sun on my porch will still be better intensity than in my window, and I have a serious "Out of sight, out of mind" problem. Because they're outside, I now don't remember to water them! Please tell me you have a system.
