I remember playing the game and getting to the part in which Joel and Ellie are riding the horse and he tells her that when he was younger, he wanted to be a singer, and how right afterwards Ellie asked him to sing and he rejected. That part actually left me with the will of hearing Joel singing. Now, through to this video, we all know.

I think that moment really redeemed Joel’s character for me. He made his decision and he’s moved past any regret of it. Ellie will do the the same someday and forgive him for it all. He gave Ellie a chance for a better life that meant mean something more than a cure in the hands of a terrorist group.

I mean you also have to give some serious credit to Ashley's singing. She is purposefully singing in the more insecure, shaky Ellie girl voice, she could sing way more smooth and secure if she wanted and this sort of "downgrade" is also pretty damn difficult I'm sure.

I honestly think Ashley did better at matching the quality of singing you might expect from Ellie. Joel certainly wouldn't sound that clean without training he never had. Great performance either way! ^^ EDIT: *realized I wrote Joel as Troy for some freakin' reason*

Hearing Ashley hitting the wrong notes and hearing her voice crack, wobble, fade and break makes me listen and see Ellie singing to Joel's grave, and seeing Joel, sitting on his gravestone singing to his beloved daughter with his guitar on his arms

@@saeedmounir6135 joel was everything I wish my father coulve have been. So in loosing him I feel I lost a dad as well. This whole game was just so immersive and really nailed it in place with makeing u feel like you were surviving with joel and ellie. Its one of those games that you experience and are changed after playing. I'll always hold a very near and dear spot in my heart not just for the game but for the characters and the story as well.

Did anyone else think it looked like they were both crying at one point (they already knew what was gonna happen😢)

You see when Ashley sang "I'm going there to see my mother" no more emotion than Ashley sang "I'm going there to see my father" then more emotion. They hint us all along 2 years ago. This game hit us hard and what a beautiful game it was.

It's so surreal to hear Joel and Ellie's voice coming from different faces. But that's just how impressive Troy and Ashley are in their voice acting skills.

That's a negative. Why make up stuff? Ashley did a not so good job on singing this song, professionally it's all over the place, clipped and Staccato. She has a nice voice but she's amateur. I understand why she did a really good job singing "Take on me" in the game now, quality control from Naughty dog. They likely did a lot of takes before they got Take on me right.

Ashley in particular had to be coached on how to sing badly, so that she sounded more like the character. The characters they voice are supposed to have much less talent than the actors themselves. Basically: you don't understand that these people are portraying CHARACTERS!

tlou2 is trash while tlou1 is good. IN tlou2 ellie loses everything from her father figure to her ability to play guitar. They did'nt show anything to do with her immunity and at the end abby gets lev like joel got ellie. And the worst of all, ellie goes to kill abby who would've died if she would'nt go there and saved her then abby bites her finger off and ellie forgives her. Absolutely trash sequel

@@hexcodmyt2211 I actually think the end of part 2 is more hopeful. She learns to let go of her grief over Joel and while she has lost everything, the final walk at the end probably shows her returning to Jackson which shows that she still has a home to go back to. So yeah I like it a lot

@@bug688 part 1 actually had a lot of potential, but they destroyed it. It could've literally been about making their own vaccine without killing ellie whether than making it about a stupid revenge which only shows complete loss of ellie and she doesn't even take her revenge.

Damn Ashley Johnson's singing voice is so light and angelic while Troy Baker's singing voice is so dark and mysterious I love it. Not only do they make the perfect video game duo but they also make one perfect and awesome singing duo as well.

The beauty about Troy singing is not just that he's a great singer? but is also the face that he's keeping that old man voice of Joel too..Outstanding

That's a major thing I don't think people realize, like ellies voice is basically Ashley's, so singing in character is just singing. Troy on the other hand, drops like 3 octaves and adds grit and gravel to his voice when he plays Joel, so singing in character is using altered vocals, and trying to stick in key, it's bloody fuckin hard to do.

The Sunset Chasers actually Ashley sings “worse” (in a sense where she tries to sound more like Ellie), and is actually a very different singer than this. They actually hired a vocal coach to help her sing “worse” (like Ellie).

Folks who got riled up with this game because of what happens to Joel, don’t seem to understand that as works of art, he & Ellie will live forever.

Their voices are in our souls now, you will hear this song or something they say years from now and it'll bring back all the memories of playing the last of us 1 & 2 and you'll break a little inside but be overwhelmed with the happiness that you got to be a part of it

@@papa_spanks2763 I'm pretty sure the dots on their faces are used to trace the facial movements for the animations. So the base for the facial animations is done thru mo-cap, but the tweaking and removal of any irregularities is done by hand.

Same. I can understand why people didn’t like how Joel died and didn’t get a heroic death. I personally think it’s coz we are so used to our characters getting “heroic” deaths or not dying at all coz they somehow survive everything and when they do die like that it’s a shock 😂 I genuinely loved it. ❤️

@@jammycammy7557 the biggest problem is people don't seem to understand that Joel wasn't the hero AT ALL. If anything he was the villain. A relatable villain, but still a villain none the less. I'd even go as far to say that he DESERVED what happened within the context of the overall narrative. It just worked too well to not do it.

I really like the idea of them singing in character, since they're both clearly better in real than what they're doing here, but by doing it in character we're getting more of these subtle imperfections. It's pretty neat.

Ellie lost everything. Joel. Her love. Her friends. Her vengeance. Her will to fight. Even the last thing she thought she had left, her guitar and the ability to play it. Say what you want about this game, but in my mind it’s a masterpiece. This game puts you through emotions and feelings that you’ve never felt before. All the characters are great and bad. It makes you look at everyone’s point of view. Even the standard fireflies that you kill are just normal people. But everyone besides you is the enemy in this situation. This is a truly god like gaming experience. There is no other game like it. You don’t know if to feel sad, guilt, or anger, you just push through to expect something big. For something good to happen. And someone to win. But in the end, no one wins, everyone’s lost everything they knew and loved. There was simply nothing accomplished, nothing completed and no problems solved. It is real life. It shows the dark side of humanity. It shows the good side. It shows you things you never thought of. This game is scary, intense, and I love that there are so many different sides. Even the infected, the clickers, the most iconic thing about the last of us, just plays in the sidelines as a fearful part of the game. It isn’t just a cliche zombie game, it makes the infected seem as normal part of like as 25+ years have passed and it is the least of the priorities. However the game still shows fear in the characters, there is nothing but fear in this game. fear that could become reality. There is nothing far-fetched. You are always switching objectives and sides. In most other games, that would make it very chaotic and crazy. But this game is very main-stream. It is still very intense, but the gameplay isn’t too overwhelming. It’s perfect. What’s overwhelming is the story. The story is beautiful. It shows that these people are no better than the clickers, and the clickers are no better than them. Its just everyone trying to survive. It shows a natural side to to a complex story, while having very fun and intense gameplay, switching it up all the time while still keeping it main-stream. It keeps your emotions in check, on the edge of your seat, while still being relaxing at the same time. Instead of saying that this game is bad just because other people are, you can’t say anything until you fully experience the game yourself. Don’t say it’s bad just because you watched your favorite KZreadr play through it, and he or she thinks it’s bad. Play this game expecting nothing, while experiencing everything as you go. Experience this game as it is. This game is a masterpiece. Thank you Naughty Dog. ❤️

The fact that Troy sang this in Joel's voice is soo fricken cool and impressive

I remember playing the game and getting to the part in which Joel and Ellie are riding the horse and he tells her that when he was younger, he wanted to be a singer, and how right afterwards Ellie asked him to sing and he rejected. That part actually left me with the will of hearing Joel singing. Now, through to this video, I know. Thank you so much!

Actually they are singing in heaven looking for each other Ellie looking for her mother (Ana) and her "father" Joel, and Joel is looking for his savior, ellie (because ellie saved joel from his past)
