Absolutely! We liked that this episode was longer and that it took the time to introduce things properly.

The perspective in the intro from the daughter's POV is because you play the opening of the game as Joel's daughter. The show stayed very true to the game that way. In fact the whole section driving in the truck after Joel wallops the old infected woman is shot almost exactly the same as the video game, the perspective from the back seat, the way the view shifted from front windshield to rear window, even the ways the pedestrians were running are all taken straight from the original game.

One thing that's weird for me watching this show is that I grew up about an hour west of Boston, so there's a lot of familiar places. Although the shooting was generally done in Canada, so sometimes there are cool mountains or whatever in the distance and I'm like... ok, that's not eastern Massachusetts (which is fairly low and filled with ponds and rivers).

Absolutely! It totally was an infected person. And even if it wasn't, he was toasted anyways if hell broke loose and he was stuck there 😖

The cool thing is that this fungus exists, it's called cordyceps, you can look it up, and it does exactly as described, it takes control of the insects' brains and uses them to proliferate to others, but it hasn't adapted to high temperatures yet 😅

I watched a doc about this a long time ago. But just recently watched a report about fungus controlling the reproductive system of the cicada.

Did you even watch the video? They said early on that the heard about the fungus and saw the documentary on it.

The very beginning of the show in 1968 is so well done and ominous, and the opening with Sarah still gets me every time. In the game, you start playing as Sarah, which they translated to the show as her being the protagonist, as you observed, so when she gets show by the soldier, it is a very unexpected and heartbreaking twist.

First, thank you guys so much for reacting to this! 😊 I hope that you do enjoy it. The first 10 minutes are so intense with the description of the cordyceps & how this feels like it could really happen with the global warming going on. I know you said that you’re usually not into “Zombie type” movies but this story is so much more. It’s really about a man and a young girl that ALSO happens to Infected/clickers/bloaters or zombies as I think you called them. P. S. Shuni when his daughter died it made me shed a tear too. I knew some vague stuff about the games, and I was pretty sure what was going to happen... but, wow. When the first act ended, I had to pause the show for 15 minutes to collect myself. I'm emotional a lot at dramatic stories and have shed many tears, but this was the first time I actually had to take a break mid-episode.

We totally get it! We are used to stopping by now because of the channel, but sometimes we pause because we need a moment too.

The fungus thing, if anyone needs to feel better, the idea is dramatic and cool and compelling... but not very realistic. It's so fun, though!

I mean.. the way it affects humans is exaggerated, but nature is constantly evolving so the possibilities are endless..

Unlike Fallout this show very much follows the game down to them wearing the same outfits in places. Joel's daughter getting killed is how the game starts too. As for how good this show is one of the actors won an Emmy for episode 3. Although I think 2 of them should have won it. In the US the Emmys are to TV what the Oscars are to movies.

I love both Fallout and TLOU, but I prefer Fallout for its gameplay and environmental storytelling, and TLOU for its story, especially Part 2. Unlike the countless hours I've spent playing Fallout, I've never played TLOU myself; I've only watched it in "Let's Plays," focusing mainly on the story parts. Have fun! If they manage to handle the seasons covering Part 2 as well as they did Part 1 in Season 1, it will be a masterpiece, or rather masterpieces.

Playing the game adds such a unique experience to the story. It was one of the first games that made me really dive deep into the role playing aspect. The scarcity of ammo made you really consider when was the appropriate time to use them. The survival aspect really sold it for me.

I never played the game, but one cool thing is that a lot of the voice talent from the games have some involvement in this show. In some cases they are playing their exact character; Marlene is voiced and played by Merle Dandridge. Other cool thing: Ellie is played by Bella Ramsey, a British actor who is non-binary and goes by they/them pronouns.

We had GPS in the military in late 1980ish, civilian probably a few years later? While zombies are cool and can be creepy...the infected are definitely creepy and cool. I was thinking about the show, it was originally a video game, so, it had to have a "hook", an interesting way to grab your attention and sort of have a "shock value", get my meaning. The show writers did an awesome job translating an action/mood driven game into a fast paced, thoughtful and emotional TV show. Anyways, a great series, looking forward to your next episode and season 2 of the TV show. All the best. Cheers.

We looked it up and for like 20 years it was just for military use, but it was allowed for civilians to have GPS in 2000, so probably not everyone had one by 2003 but it was already around ☺️ Thank you for commenting! 💕 Cheers

If you choose to never play the original video game, you can watch a "TV edit" of the video game cutscene story of TLoU on KZread to compare differences between the show and the game. Several YTers have posted it and takes from 5 to 7.5 hours depending on their style of edit.

the series is a good and as gripping as the Video games and it is soo close to the story with Slight changes that are needed to translate to a show i have played both games and have over 300+ hours into them and this series is amazing.

@@NerdishReact I've never seen any other (new or established) reaction channel pause in the middle of a movie or episode for commentary, I'm sure some do but I wouldn't bother with their channel either if that's the case, some channels will take notes during but never pause for their thoughts thus far, it's annoying enough to have to skip ads, especially when they pop up at the best parts, I have no desire to skip commentary too in the middle of a watch, I've just seen your upload for episode 2 and saw the pause again, so this channel is a no go for me, but good luck with it and enjoy this phenomenal series. 😎

Will deffo cry.. 😢 but probably by the end of this feel very..eh,. I dunno.. empowered bit cynical.. fuck.. its not an easy show... My personal hope would be we all come out it actually sympathetic.. no love not hate..just human and open tae be open.

​@@NerdishReact it also depends on the type of road and terrain. A raised highway would likely decay faster than a state route built on solid ground. Plus more American vehicles are built larger for off roading.
