Actually I'm pretty sure FEDRA WAS monitoring the underground and keeping it maintained. Remember, Henry's FEDRA contact said that they had cleared a tunnel a few years ago. But once they were gone, Kathleen stopped paying attention to the tunnels completely because she was so obsessed with revenge, even going so far as to clearly see them trying to emerge from underground and ignoring it. All that coupled with all of the noise from the revolution after party probably got them all riled up underground.

I am hearing and my grandparents are deaf. I grew up in a bilingual household with ASL and English. It always blew my mind when hearing people would realize they were talking with a D/HH person and would suddenly become awkward and quickly give up trying to communicate with them. I try to encourage those people, “Just try! You don’t have to know ASL! You can mime! You can write! Forget about embarrassing yourself! What matters is you treat them like a person!” So, I very much loved the inclusion of Ellie having this friendship with Sam as a Deaf person. Because Ellie truly loved learning to communicate with Sam and getting to know him. It showed their bond and understanding of each other. ❤

Note that Henry and Sam are using Black American Sign Language (BASL). The show creators wanted to make sure they were accurate. It was a gamble looking for a deaf black child actor; think about how limited a pool that's going to be (right age, right race, deaf), but they knocked it out of the park with Keivonn Woodard.

There's something unsettling in realizing that Sam was just sitting there because he's deaf. An infected listens for their prey. Even if he ever went to go full on clicker he couldn't. Ellie broke her promise and fell asleep, so he was just sitting there. Waiting, screaming from the inside. As his brain was slowly eaten away. And until someone touched him, or came in his view, he would sit there forever. And when Ellie touched him, Sam saw his own body attack her. Instead of becoming the superhero he always wanted to be. He became a monster, crying for his brother to help. He didn't even hear the shot. Just his vision slowly fading to black. He spent all night trying not to fall asleep. Then suddenly his eyes were slowly closing, afraid of what would happen once he woke up, but he never did. Bill and Frank's story was sad, in a stoic kind of way, but just like Bill said at the end, it wasn't tragic. They'd lived a full life. Here Sam and Henry had hope, a chance, and a whole life ahead of them. Henry was so good that he protected Ellie before even realizing what he was doing. It was instinctual. That comes from deep inside. But a little like Kathleen said, this kind of goodness, makes it hard to live in such a tragic world.

I was surprised to see a lot of reactors instantly angry at Henry for turning the gun on Joel. Obviously it wasn't something he should have done; it wasn't Joel or Ellie's faut. But imagine being peacefully asleep one moment (probably your first peaceful sleep among people you trust in a while), then you only have a second to react to losing your brother as the knowledge sinks in that you'll have to kill him. Of course Henry's instinct would be to protect Sam one last time. It's that split-second urgency that makes the scene more brutal than if Henry had known the night before. Lamar Johnson had such expressive eyes this episode. You could see the realization dawning on him as he was watching Sam attack Ellie. Then the mixture of shock, grief, and denial when he was asking, "What did I do?" Such gut-wrenching stuff. This show is bleak as hell but damn does it and the game do bleak so freaking well.

Ellie cutting her hand to introduce her blood into Sam's wound was an earnest act of love. She wanted to be the person to save her friend, Sam-she believed that she could. She's 14. Unless she was into the sciences and that curiosity was fed, she wouldn't know the first thing about how immunity works. It's one of the sweetest and saddest thing to watch. Sadder still is that she didn't tell Henry. Henry and Sam could have had some time together in the end. Had Henry known, he would have had time, however fleeting, to prepare himself and maybe, just maybe, not kill himself. Ellie did her best to stay up with Sam, but I bet Henry and Joel would've been wide awake all through the night. And if Henry couldn't do what needed to be done, Joel would have stepped in. I suppose that's one alternative ending which would definitely stray from the game. I'm sure Mazin and Druckmann explored that and decided that if Henry survived, that change would be a seismic deviation from the game. Phenomal work by Lamar Johnson and Keivonn Woodard as Henry and Sam!

Great reaction as always, Normies! As someone who played and loved both Parts I and II of the game, it was awesome watching Spidey, Suraj and Mickey fanboying over the horde scene (especially when the Big Boy showed up!). Rana still reacting like it was a blind reaction was cool, too (shouting for some Ellie shiv action)! Even Chris and Marketa were just pulling back in their seats! This was a really intense episode. Kudos to Druckmann/Mazin, the showrunners, crew...and all like 75 - 80 of these talented extras who spent time at Clicker school (four months!) because this was one of the freakiest horde reveals ever. This show is just hitting all the sweet spots! Then to end the episode with Henry and Sam! Wow, just excellent performances all around. This show better get some freaking awards (this and "Andor")!

The thing about Ellie is afraid of being alone ... I mean she's immune to the infection so supposed everyone got infected then she'll be alone.

"No making monster-noises in this apocalypse." Best comment in the reaction. 🙂 Marketa's comment about what happened after WWII is in keeping with Frantz Fanon's analysis of the psychological consequences of protracted oppression in his seminal work, "The Wretched of the Earth." It, basically, makes both oppressors and the oppressed insane, for awhile, and the surreal violence at the time of victory constitutes an emotional catharsis.

When I saw the actors for Sam and Henry I knew this was going to WRECK me. Henry looks so young and soft hearted. In an another world he would’ve been a regular 20 year old who’s a big brother and Henry, they de-aged him a bit and got the cutest little sweetheart. I cried harder this ep than the game even knowing how it was going down.

Ellie definitely thought she could cure Sam with her blood, cause why wouldn’t she tell Joel? Why would she fall asleep then try and wake/ touch him when she woke up? I think this episode is her losing her innocence and becoming Joel and Joel is becoming more compassionate.

Ever since The Last of Us (TV show) came out, everybody's been shitting on The Walking Dead even harder 🤣🤣 In the game it's really weird that Sam sleeps in different room while the other 3 slept in the same room, so having Sam deaf and younger in the show makes sense so that Ellie can sleep in the same room as him and not being attacked during her sleep.

Missed a stage of infection and it looks like nobody else mentions this so I will, the process goes from runner to stalker then clicker then finally bloater. As far as I know we haven't seen any stalkers yet in the show but there were probably a few in that horde, but I hope the official introduction to stalkers is tight they are my favorite type of infected.

Great reaction! Bloaters are not the final stage in the infection. Stage 1- Runner (which is what Sam was, he was not a Clicker), 2- Stalker, 3- Clicker, 4- Bloater, 5- Shambler, 6- The Rat King, 7- The interconnected Fungi.....as of now, they are the known stages. TLOU 2 explains the Shamlber and The Rat King.
