I found this series the other day, thought I’d watch one to see what it was like….. I didn’t sleep all night!! I’m on series 4 now and I’m now going to stretch it out because I can’t bare to be without them all! They’ve become like family and I don’t want it all to end!!

I saw the show first and am now on book 8. I love that I have 2 different but overlapping stories of Uthred and obviously there's a lot more detail in the books. There are parts in the books, like Alexander, that I slightly regret not being in the show, but likewise I really appreciate the way the show focuses on some relationships that the book doesn't. All in all, a massive thankyou to Bernard and to the cast and crew of TLK. The story is part of my life now. In fact, tomorrow I'm going on an epic journey from Wales to Newcastle to catch the last weekend of the TLK exhibition at Bamburgh Castle! 😊❤

Mr Cornwell, please write another series so Alexander and cast can star in it.

A series on the Gauls and Roman's would be cool.

Fell in love with the show from S1 Ep1 minute 1. I had never even heard of Alexander, but watching how he plays off everyone he interacts with and in turn feeds their performance, I thought “ this is a special actor that cares deeply about his craft.” I have watched all four seasons many times, but it just isn’t enough. I decided to stockpile my Audible credits and purchase every book in the Saxon Stories series and have speed run up to “War of the Wolf” in the past couple of weeks, as I work ten hour shifts. Alexander and the entire cast have imprinted such an indelible mark in my mind, that it is impossible for me not to be able to visualize every scenario that occurs in the books, even when I might be distracted by work😉. This book series and the show will be the reason why I will purchase EVERY piece written by Bernard Cornwell, audio and print. I just wish the show could last forever, but alas, that obviously isn’t possible.

Just finished War Lord, I’m going to miss the characters it’s like they have become friends. Thank you, the whole series has been fantastic and Alexander is the perfect Ultread.

This is such a great show, alexander is my new favorite actor and somehow he inspires and uplifts me every time I see him on screen ☺️

the books were brilliant and took me to a time from the past! Loved all the characters. The series was fantastic, I thought all the characters were perfectly cast. Alexander was the perfect choice for Uhtred!

This is heartwarming. Great storytellers, the both of them. It is delightful how much Alexander respects the source material, and it is equally delightful how passionate Bernard is about that critical time and place in world history.

I didn't want the show to end please Make new series, we want to watch you again, i binged on Last Kingdom. Want more more......

The fact that this show was not a monumental success as it's counter-part (GT) is proof positive that this world is off of it's axel. I am a period piece buff and the genius and perfection of the script and the expert and dedication of the actors that portrayed the characters was extremely enjoyable. All of the characters were perfectly chosen for their parts. I love, love. loved this show.

It actually felt like saying goodbye to an old friend when I finished the last book...

This series will never be forgotten. It was wonderful, exciting and the acting was magnificent. I have watched the series five times. I probably will watch it at least five more. I’m addicted.

Fantastic series. Excellent work. I'm now digging into the books. Bernard Cornwell is right, there is much too little said about how England came to be. And it explains so much about the country, its undefinable character, its internal divisions, but also its adaptability and the fundamental open mindedness of many of its people.

What timing! I saw War Lord for-sale in our medicine-bottle, and started there. Re-started properly at book one. I just was slowly sadly, gathered at the cripple-gate before gutting the sword thief, procrastinating on KZread and this video appeared. I finished the tale now. I havn't yet watched this Q&A. Instead I am walking 500m to my Filly and my Steed in their paddock for their evening feed. Oh thank you for the escapes. Mr. Dreymon, brilliant, the TV took me there. Bernard Cornwell, my dad had pushed the Sharpe series on me years ago, and now he's on book five of the Saxon series thanks to me. Cheers from Swan Hills, Alberta, Canada.

Would just love to hear Alex do a recording of the audibooks. Or at least the first one or maybe the last. Just think if Bernard himself as the writer and creator hears Alex when he writes the books now, then Alex 100% should read them!!! And like fans will lose their shit. I being one of them.

I am very familiar with this period of history, and Alexander's, and the whole cast and just how good the show is I just ignored the fact Uhtred lives to 120 or something 😁 Loved this show so much, and honestly Season 1 is one of my favourite seasons of television, full stop.

Good questions and a joy to hear the answers. I've loved the books and after an initial balk at the adaptation of the first series to appeal to a Gen X audience, I've grown to really enjoy the Netflix series. The books are fantastic - it was my favourite period of history at school and each reference to locations I know (brought up in Thames Valley Essex, now east London) has been a boost to my love of my country and I intend to revisit so many places mentioned. A wonderful piece of work Mr Cornwell and full credit to Alexander and the whole production team and actors. As with LOR, so sad it's over.

Wirral Folk Lore always related a 'Great Battle' around Storeton Woods, Bebbington. Rest Hill Rd, near The Travellers Rest Pub - where the 'Saxon/English' army rested (before/after the battle is not known).. Nearby Red Hill Rd so named as it ran with blood after the slaughter, it has Brackenwood golf course on the East side as it heads down to the M53 intersection. In 2021 Wirral Archaeology published a book entitled 'Never Greater Slaughter' about the battle site of Brunanburh, 937ad..

I've been obsessed with the book series for @6-7 months now & this has become the best series of books I've ever read, bar none!!! I've probably read thousands of books in my lifetime & can honestly say I've never enjoyed reading anything the way I enjoy the Last Kingdom books! I feel so excited & pumped up as I read, then bummed out when the book is coming to the end...but with 13 books in the series there's always been another one to read. I've been avoiding reading this last installment because I just don't want to "finish" the story!

I live about 20 minutes from Bernard Cromwell, i wish i knew exactly where so i could get an autograph on one of my books but id never want to bother him. I remember watching an interview with Alexander Dreymon where he said Uthreds a horrible name except for maybe a large dog. My next dog will be named Uthred.

The most painful thing about all of this is the fact its now over.. Utred didn't die in book 13 but his story has ended. that hurt as if I lost a family member.

Considering the fact that this show's script is somewhat different from the book series, I really hope that they won't be making Uhtred an old man in season 5. He is absolutely gorgeous the way he is! Please just let him be and give our hearts this eye-candy of a man )))

I think that they should eventually make him old, to be realistic and true to the book. We don't want it to be a crappy Netflix show that just focuses on the cast members being attractive.

@@cs-ke1by I really believe that really old characters should be played by the actors of relevant age, so if they are showing us Uhtred in his 60s or 70s they should find some other guy to play him instead of applying tons of creepy makeup on Alexander. I haven't read the books, so I don't know how close the series are to the book story, so let's admit that it's not that principal to me. What I hope is to see more of Uhtred's adventures in his current age and state and performed by Mr. Dreymon because for me he is definitely the main attraction of the show with all respect to other amazing characters I like. Besides, I have serious doubts an old man could keep fighting and making all those stunts the way they do it in the series and this is about a path of the great warrior, isn't it?

But in book 7 Uhtred is 50ish....is he in season 4 when he tries to take back Bebbanburg? If they didn't do it there, they won't do it next season I don't think.

@@williamblackfyre4866 I have already watched season 4 and if you haven't told me that according to the books Uhtred was in his 50, I would never guessed! To me Uhtred in season 4 looks as if he is 35-40, and I woud say that this look of a seasoned warrior is channeled by Alexander 's acting, not the wrinkles on his face... I don't know how people at that time looked in their 50s so I won' t critisize the series, besides I like Uhtred just the way Alexander Dreymon looks ☺️

For those having trouble finding time to read the series, allow me to recommend the audiobooks. The series beings with narration by Jonathan Keeble and is completed by Matt Bates, both incredible as Uhtred...and everyone else haha.

If only they got the same people to make The Winter King....GD that show is bleh and the story is on par with the Saxon Stories/TLK. Read that series and all his books if you want TOP tier stories based on history(his non fiction is great as well). And to update this video, Warlord isn't the last book. Bernard did a encore book for us called Uhtred's Feast with some random fights and stories from Uhtred's life. Loved it and really appreciated it.

I appreciate Bernards point of view on a series . But if season #5 is the last , that's too bad . They could have got so so much more out of the book series ! But I absolutely have loved the TV Show , and i've gotten all of the books , from watching the show , read them all more than once . And yes if some company wanted to do more , there's probably 10yrs worth of shows in the books ! Thanks so much for the video ❤️

The capture of Bebbanburg in the book is better than the show. Also, Heasten is better in books and some battles for sure. Also, his children and some other characters are better. But the show is still great and I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks too Bernard, Alexander, and the rest of the cast.

Many of us that have immigrated to the USA are Anglo Saxon ancestry. We never learned our history in school.

While filming the last 5 books, please maximize the seasons and episodes. I understand you cover two books per season which is a lot to cover

Please don’t try and squeeze the series ending into 2 seasons, but make 3 seasons out of the last 5 books. I love the books and I love the series. It is the same caliber as Game of Thrones, it’s just not as long.🙁 The writing, casting and the directing is awesome not to mention the artistry of the scene set ups, the costumes, the historical value and the cinematography. This series is so well done that it takes the viewer back in time allowing us to experience how life would be during that era. My husband and I binge watched season 1-4 within a weeks time. Thank you all for your hard work to entertain us!!!

Thank you Danielle for all the love and support, going through comments ad just looking at some reviews I find it fascinating seeing this massive love. Thank you from my heart, I REALLY APPRECIATE. Where are you from, seems like you know things about acting?

Alexander at first was a disappointment for me because I had read the books, in his size and looks. The actor who played Young Ragnar was the Uhtred of the books to a T. Uhtred was not good looking, tall and looked like a Dane. That said after a few episodes into the series you just knew Alexander was Uhtred his deamoner, the way he rushed in and didn't think first really captured the man from the books. Excellent job from all on the series and of course there is no praise great enough for me on Bernard and the books

The show is good. I want to read the books now. I feel the character lacks motive in the show. Or maybe emotion. Stoic. It's kind of strange and I'd like to know what he's like in the books. Couldn't ask for a more handsome viking though! Cheers.
