Happy Birthday Star Wars!!
Here it is, after 3 and a half months, I have finally finished my second Star Wars video. This one was really tough to make. Not only because of the difficulty in finding the subtleties of Luke's life, but also bringing out some of the emotion as well.
Luke Skywalker is an immensely unique character. His life was filled with so many trials and challenges which turned him into one of the most powerful Jedi ever. Thanks to Yoda and Obi-Wan, not only did Luke persevere against great odds, but he also brought The Chosen One back to the light to fulfill his destiny.
To be honest, I've always seen Luke as "The fail safe" to the prophecy, and in a way, you could say he was the chosen one too. However, Anakin was the one who delivered the killing blow against Sidious; bringing balance to the Force....Or did he? hmmm - which leads into The Last Jedi. I am super excited for the movie this year. I can't wait to explore what Luke has been through for the past 30 years, and why he thinks the Jedi must end?? It must be metaphorical right?
Anyway, many of you might think Rey is the Last Jedi, and yes the title can be plural (Rey and Luke, which is fine too) but for the sake of this video, I am making Luke The Last Jedi because he truly has been for the past couple of decades or so after he lost his entire Jedi academy by the hands of his own nephew...
I really hope you guys enjoy this tribute. Thank you all so much for 4k!! I can't thank you enough for all the love and appreciation for what I do.
Stay tuned for my next video entitled: The Prince that was Promised.. ;)

So good by Lucas to have Padme say, "There's good in him" while baby Luke is there in Obi-Wan's arms. Such a great moment. The only thoughts and feelings Luke carries on from his mother are that there is still good in Vader. Perfect storytelling by Lucas.

  • @KS-cz9qc

    @KS-cz9qc

Yes! That would’ve shaken me as Obi-Wan, hearing the exact words that Luke’s mother had spoken all those years ago. I like to think that Luke unknowingly does this again when he tells Vader “Come with me,” on Endor, since Padme said those exact words to Anakin when pleading for him to leave everything and go with her. Vader responds to Luke by saying Obi-Wan once thought as he did, but I wonder if this was partly an attempt to block out the memory of that moment when Padme had asked the same thing of him. It’s also interesting that when Luke states that Vader will be forced to kill him, Vader’s response is far more hesitant, as if remembering Padme’s fate. When Luke persists in appealing to the good in his father, Anakin’s spirit seemingly breaks through for a moment and admits his own despair, that it is too late to turn back. In his mind, he cannot go with Luke even if he wanted to, he can see no way out. Yet in admitting this, we all catch a glimpse of what Luke and Padme believed: “There is still good in him.”

The line is about how Luke rushes of to face Vader, because he thinks hes ready because he isn't afraid, when really, like Yoda says in Return of the Jedi, Luke wasn't ready, and that's why he wasn't prepared when Vader revealed the truth to him in Cloud City. I tried my best to explain it.

"Pass on what you have learned." Yoda- Return if the Jedi That line now has a whole new meaning because of the last Jedi. Luke (and us, the audience) thought that it simply meant to teach a new generation the ways of the Jedi. So he did.... But it failed. He as a person changed because of the weight of the responsibility that was put on his shoulders. He was so overwhelmed by this, that he became as paranoid as the Jedi in the prequels. No matter how pure hearted someone is, that would easily alter them as a person. So, he ended up making the same mistake that the Jedi have always made. He was so afraid of the dark side returning, that he unintentionally created the dark side itself. So when he realized this was not only his mistake, but the mistake of the Jedi as a whole, he wrongfully thought that it would be best if the Jedi simply ceased to exist. And disappeared to die alone, as the last Jedi. This is the same destructive mentality that is driving Kylo Ren further and further from reality. They're both so caught up in the old ways dying, that they can't see the mistakes that they're making in the present. ("Always looking off into the horizon. Never focusing on where he was. What he was doing.") So when Yoda confronts Luke for the final time in TLJ, he reinforces what he had told him before, and also clarifies what it meant. He tells him that he's still too caught up in what will happen, that he can't see what's right in front of him. (In front of your nose.) And that he still must do what he instructed him to do all those years ago. To pass on what he has learned. Both the ways of the Jedi.... and their mistakes. Or else this endless cycle of conflict will continue for eternity. "Pass on what you have learned." This one line is now probably the most important line in the star wars saga. It links all three trilogies together, and gives each one a purpose, and a reason to exist. (Even phantom menace) People say that the sequel trilogy has no reason to exist, but I have to disagree. If it was simply the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy, and the prequels never existed, then they would be right. But in reality, if you include the prequel trilogy, Return if the Jedi is not a satisfying ending. Sure, it may resolve the core plot of the conflict between a father and his son, and the rise and fall of an evil empire, but thematically, it doesn't solve the third major piece of the story which the prequels created: That the Jedi are flawed, and are a major reason why the dark side always returns. If you watch the movies chronologically (which is what George Lucas intended) the first trilogy (the prequels) introduces all of these themes, which are not resolved, and then the second act (the original trilogy) doesn't even touch on them. If that were the ending, then nothing would be resolved. The audience is just left thinking that Luke will pass on the ways of the Jedi, and the constant cycle of good versus evil will continue. But the sequel trilogy is now finally addressing that. I recommend any star wars fan to watch the entire saga chronologically from episode 1 to episode 8 (then 9 when it's released) sure it cheapens the Vader reveal, and a few other things, but overall it gives a better sense of what the full picture really is. I admit that The Last Jedi is a very flawed movie, but I don't think that means that it's bad. On its own, I consider it pretty good to average, but alongside the entire rest of the series, I strongly believe that this is a great movie. But that's just my stance on it. You don't have to agree. If you've somehow managed to find this and read through all of it, then thank you and I hope that I made a decent point.

What a fantastic analysis my friend. I'm so glad that there's at least a few people that try to think in this light even when knowing how flawed The Last Jedi was. This perspective gives Luke and Ben at least some good depth that may have been easy to miss within the other unnecessary subplots in the movie. As Master Yoda said, "The greatest teacher, failure is." May the Force be with you.

I think TLJ was way better than most people realized. I keep hearing charges that it broke the Star Wars lore but I think it was perfectly fitting the grand theme; Hope. Hope was lost when Luke went into hiding, ashamed that for a split second, the murder of his own student that was also the son of his best friend was a tempting idea. Not letting oneself be consumed by fear and anger (aka "the path that leads to the dark side") is everydays work, not a decision you make once and for all.

the part that got me was the similarities between when luke and padme were on the floor, giving the perspective of what Anakin was looking at; he failed his wife but he wasn't going to fail his son. I really like that little cut cuz it shows the ring theory from George Lucas. keep up the awesome man !! I'm excited to see what's in store for the future!!!

That is fracking beautiful. I have always identified with Luke Skywalker since seeing Star Wars' national release in '77 at Tower Mall in Portsmouth, Virginia. So many people hate on Luke, calling him a whiner. Allow me to bring your awareness to something; All of the major characters are whiners. Han, Leia, Chewy, 3PO, even R2. Even when Luke did whine, I always saw it as totally relatable and/or justifiable given his upbringing. But in Return of the Jedi, Luke didn't whine once when all the others still did.

Amazing video, I’ve watched it a ton of times now. You can see all of the emotion throughout Luke’s journey and at the end when Rey hands him back his and his fathers lightsaber, it’s sad to know after seeing last Jedi that he literally throws it over his shoulder and walks off.

I think the movie would have been 20x better if he simply looked at the lightsaber, shed a tear and dropped it, then carried on the film normally, it would have made alot more sense

Crazy how you can feel such emotion for a fictional character. George’s Star Wars will always be the best!

And let me just say, your attention to detail and pacing skills are unrivaled. You have a unique sense of were to put clips, sound, and dialogue in order to make something impactful, and there are some scenes that really made me smile and say "dang that was cool" like when Vader clenched his fist and then it smoothly transitioned to Luke doing the same thing, and stuff like that. Really well done mate!

Thank you my friend for this well thought-out critique. I enjoy doing this so much and it's wonderful to receive some recognition. Completely respect if you like the Chosen One more. That's what this channel is for anyway, to eventually have a wide-selection of tributes to watch and enjoy. Thanks again, and May the Force be With you.

Marvelous tribute! I'm so sad. Seeing this after the Last Jedi... it hurts si much. Never, ever, Luke would have try to kill Ben... Also I would have loved some flashbacks in Luke's mind about the good times with his nephew in Last Jedi. Seeing Ben laugh with him, playing together, having Luke taking his nephew in his arm with Han and Leia when little.... So much could have make people cry and feel with him the sorrow of Luke. Instead we have space cows. .. Continue your beautiful work !

Joseph Cambell's Hero's Journey in Luke right here. Thanks for this vid and incredible work on it! I teach about the Hero's Journey at the university by way of Luke Skywalker (who I also included as an illustrative example in my work on veteran transition and paths to wellbeing). I will use this video in future lectures if you don't mind, HFP(?)! Looking forward to seeing more of Luke's journey in the years to come.

If I had chance to be Obi Wan Kenobi, I would say „His father couldn’t do what must be done, but his son is the first and the last hope for Jedi order and force is stronger with him than we could have ever imagined, the force will be always with him, from the beginning to the end”
