Problem is the PC version has issues running on modern windows. It's hard to find without pirating it, and the graphics don't go above 1080p. Emulating the gamecube version has nicer graphics and a crisper resolution. Only thing I like more about the PC version are the mods

Idk personally I feel like the mods make up for the differences between them but if the next windows OS is even worse with madden 08 then it's going to be bad

You missed the best part. Importing your draft classes from NCAA. There's nothing like playing 4 years of Heisman mode then importing into superstar mode to have your created player go from highschool to the HOF.

Because for over a decade now, they've stripped features from the game and bled customers dry with Ultimate Team, receiving very little backlash. Yea, there were a few vocal people complaining every year, but the vast majority kept shelling out for the "new" game and x amount of money on the Ultimate Team. The review outlets kept giving the game 8.whatever scores. The sheep finally woke up from their zombified state and spoke up this year. Next year's game will be better, guaranteed. Thing is, it'll only be marginally better. EA will do the bare minimum to get back to those 8.whatever review scores and have the sheep back in their zombified state. Make no mistake, it'll only take the bare minimum to do that.

Definitely a running back. My qb was always small. My running backs and wide outs were behemoths.

My all time favorite small detail that has been missing in the new maddens for YEARS was in the older maddens in franchise mode..... the raiders had the baseball dirt on their field for the first few weeks of the regular season

The problem is the people who play Madden religiously and give it a pass every year and the ones who say your asking for too much, probably didn't get the experience the maddens and the NFL2k in the 2000s. They probably was little babies. So they probably only grew up on games like Madden 13 to Madden 20.

kcpkp3 I agree to a certain extinct. I loved the vision cone and really wish they would bring it back!. But I will say the x- factor Abilities are also a great addition as well. I never besides the glory days of madden, felt like I had to game plan around elite players I played the beta and the game felt amazing! The lighting, the player movement, the throwing trajectory, the animations, almost everything felt incredible!. And I really hope the don’t fuck it up🤞🏾I’m telling you when you play this years version you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. I can’t wait!

This video makes my late teenhood feel so validated. I have so many memories playing this into AM hours in my room on a 20" tv. I spent 10+ years in franchise mode across multiple teams, documented great games I had and season summaries (I still have the notebook!), took notes for drafts... This was always, and probably still is, in my PS2. Such a great game

Looking at the pictures of 19 vs 08 definitely favors the 19 graphics, but in gameplay 19 looks really cheap and flimsy to me, 08 looks solid and full of weight in my opinion. (Btw I mean the overhead cam during playing, not cutscenes and replays.)

Booker The Wolf a bit of both I think. I think part of the effect is the better graphics look better up close but in long shots sometimes its too crisp. Similar to how you can take a blurry photo and try to sharpen it. Perhaps the graphics are better than my eyes? I think youre right ftmp but there was something that made me dizzy about the 19 look overall.

When Madden use to be an automatic purchase... now, I wait 'til it drops to $20 and sometimes skip a year.

Another thing that was possible was when a famous player retired he might show up in the off-season as an available coordinator for you to hire, this always happened to me with Terrell Owens for some reason. It's unbelievable to look back and realize that EA cared about their product instead of releasing the same game every year with updated rosters and gamble mechanics (MUT). The last Madden I brought was 15 and for some reason when I played the training mode I was expecting the players to come out with the training uniform but that was nothing but a distant memory when NFL football games were good. Thanks for the vid, it sure made me look way back to better times.

Hell, even FIFA got that treatment until the last few years when they started abusing the MUT in that game too. FIFA 15 let you play as a player, retire, and then coach and maybe OWN a team later on down the line. I WISH there was HALF the passion and creativity in those games nowadays, compared to their older versions. Makes me so sad.

Yes! I ended up hiring Jerry Rice as my Offensive Coordinator for the Niners, and a couple seasons later promoted him to Head Coach. Right now, I'm playing Madden 08 with last year's mod, and I have Aaron Rodgers as my OC and Frank Gore as my Special Teams Coordinator.

For example, l made Jalen Hurts & put him as the Eagles starting QB and played them against the 1992 Dallas Cowboys I made. It was a shootout Hurts vs Aikman. But Dallas edged the Eagles 33 to 31. Charles Haley managed to get a huge sack in the last minute that iced it for Dallas. I give all the players real stats, and most teams are comprised of their best players from the past, or present so all the games stay competitive.

So far l have mainly messed with the rosters and play testing them. Whose SPD AGL and ACC ratings are you asking for Hurts' or Haleys? I go back n forth between madden 08 and 05 all the time lol. I can go back and dig up every Sean Taylor ratings if you need them. I have ratings going back to Madden 98.

@@breal1183 im use to playing Madden on madden 12 but recently got a ps2 and madden 2005, on the drafts in madden 05 the prosoects ratings are all, mosty due to speed, all of their speed is low at every position for some odd reason, is the other maddens on ps2 the same as far as drafts concerned? Example: madden 2005 the first pick in the draft was a 67 overal running back who didn't have not one 90 at any of the speed levels, all of them draft prospects speed low, one lineman had a 33 in speed. Is the other madden drafts on ps2 like this? Or are draft picks atleast respectable on other maddens? Like top first round picks should atleast be 80 overall and up

@@bp4_archive Not a bad adquisition (certainly better than getting the latest Madden game), but keep in mind that Madden 06, 07 and 08 are different games in the sixth gen consoles (PS2/GameCube/Xbox) compared to the versions on the seventh gen consoles (PS3/Xbox 360), and it is usually agreed that the sixth gen versions of Madden 06-08 are the best versions of those games. So if you can, try to get the sixth gen version of Madden 08 so you can have both versions of the game.

@@bp4_archive I mentioned the Xbox 360 and early model PS3 because you can use those consoles to play the sixth gen games since both have backwards compatibility with their predecessors (any Xbox 360 plays a lot of og Xbox games, and the early model PS3 can play almost all PS2 games). If you got an Xbox 360, seek out NFL 2K5 and NFL Fever 2004; and if you got an early model PS3, get the PS2 Madden games (especially from 2005 to 08), as well as NFL 2K5.

@@bp4_archive Unfortunately no og Xbox Madden game works on the Xbox 360 because it seems EA did not like that Microsoft made NFL 2K5 and other third party NFL games backwards compatible on the Xbox 360, so they didn't let Microsoft make their og Xbox Madden games backwards compatible on the Xbox 360. No worries, you still got a lot of options of og Xbox NFL games to play on the Xbox 360: NFL 2K2, NFL 2K3, ESPN NFL 2K5, NFL Fever 2004, NFL Blitz 2002, NFL Blitz 2003, and NFL Blitz Pro. You still got options for your Xbox 360 to get amazing 🏈 games (ESPN NFL 2K5 in particular is a MUST HAVE).

Agreed man, I'm not exactly sure why it irks me so much, it's the same with NHL as well. I guess like buddy said in the video, to attach some sort of value or importance to individual games/player matchups, and just learning in general I guess, "so-and-so used to play for them? Hmmm interesting"

I forgot how much I enjoyed madden ‘08. And after having kids and doing old people things for over a decade, I finally picked up a ps4 with the intention of experiencing nex-gen Madden with my kids. Although fun, It doesn’t have that “it” factor I had with ‘08. Maybe it’s just nostalgia, I don’t know, but I found myself agreeing with your video. Thanks for the memories!

Yo Sidney Rice is on my Bengals squad lol. I spotted him on the Vikings in the vid 👀 The amount of STUFF in franchise mode is insane. I had to look up exactly what franchise tagging was (more than once lol) . I probably got recommended this vid because I was looking up this stuff. I go back to my franchise every once in a while, and right now I'm playing through another couple seasons. My brother and I and some of our friends made characters back in the day and my franchise has them as well. I tried some newer NFL games and something felt.... off. Glad to see I'm not losing my mind. Great vid!

Agreed, but I still really love 03. It was that kinda awkward transition from the clunky slower Maddens before, to the smoother quicker Maddens after. It introduced sooo much and help be a great base for a bunch of the next Maddens after it

@@KaiVellichor 09 madden the best. They added the sideline catch for receivers. Plus you can turn qb vision off on all madden unlike the previous versions. Plus it's john maddens last game he commentated on for the ps2.

@@realone3602I actually didn't like 09 as much. I mean it's a great madden, but it feels like dlc for Madden 08. Plus if i remember correctly, 09 had some really wonky CB issues, where they would really struggle to pick off anything, even if it was thrown at them. But it has been forever since I last played it so I could be mistaken

I remember buying this game in 2008 and i wasn't even an american football fan back then, i just loved the trailer and the presentation, then i started playing it and it was so detailed that turned me into an NFL fan so i could perfect my knowledge to enjoy this game to the fullest. 12yrs later i still play it on my PS2 pretty regularly when i have time to spare and I LOVE IT

You make some great points. I’m sitting here wondering why I don’t play madden anymore and you just outlined why. You’re spot on about franchise mode, I had my Baltimore Ravens 25 years into the future. The draft was my favorite feature. Sometimes I would simulate the entire season just to go through the offseason. This video has made me want to replay madden ‘08.

Madden 08 also had the best Madden intro ever imo. When Brian Dawkins opens up with "Can you feel that?"

Jdub,,it's giving all of us those feels... I went and got a PS2 once I saw my homies PS2 with one of those super thick-ass component cables that made his NCAA (2005i think) look HD.. So I got ps2 with that same HD component cable and now play it on my 4k tv.. yeah it's weird af but making my quaranteen manageable fo sho

2003-2012 is considered the "golden" Era of the series. Anything pre 2003 is too old And anything past 2012 just isn't as deep. I PERSONALLY like 08-12 on ps3 more then the ps2 iterations. More plays, better graphics, and just fun.

Yes, Madden 08 was the best. I loved running laps around the field with Adrian Peterson 😅😂

Btw, the vision cone was one of the most simulation features Madden had ever had.

Madden 08 is my favorite simply for the in-depth Superstar mode. The IQ test, the combine, even having to hire an agent, the adjusted camera angle, it really made you feel like a real player. It was also one of the last games where running the ball actually worked well. In new Maddens, AI-controlled linemen being blocked will instantly tackle you if you get too close like the O-lineman isn't even there, but if you try to use the lineman you'll still be stuck in the block and I hate that so much as someone who is awful at passing and relies on the run.

@@willheezy No u wrong. They aint never allowed you to have tattoos for your creative player. When madden 18 came out they updated player likeness and added OBJ's tattoos, Derrick Carr's tattoo and That Bryant guy who played WR for the Steelers amd raiders they added his tattoos and Collin Kaepernick's tattoos. I think Collin was the only who had tattoos on 16 but once 18 came out I would change OBJ"s name to my name cause I wanted tattoos for my player.

I used to zone out and play this for hours, my girlfriend used to be pissed 🤣🤣🤣

You make really good points I think this one gets overlooked when newer games and next generation consoles are released and people move on from it. I wasn't a fan of owner mode and QB vision but it was cool seeing what those were like. I honestly wish they wouldn't make a game every year but instead update it when roster and coaching changes happened. They could go every 4 years but they won't do that unless you pay for updates or something. When the college games weren't around is when Madden games declined I think. Road to Glory and Dynasty mode were great you could transfer players into the Madden game I miss that. Hopefully when college football comes back Madden can be better but who knows. EA just needs to have more than 3 faces when creating a coach, player and owner. It's just very limited especially when MLB the show games offer so much in creating a player. I completely agree with you on a lot of things but unfortunately I'm afraid we won't see any changes in Madden but I hope college football can be enjoyable when we get to play it.

Ahh the classics... I made a complete custom franchise of all cupcake teams and let the chaos unfold. The South Park Cows vs the Portland Trees The San Antonio Banditos vs the Manhatten Minutemen If anybody ever tries this themselves, the first few draft classes are EPIC. You will find 90+ overall players in every round. The game "rebuilds" the quality of the league. I always turn off trading in franchise, so draft picks are more important. Rebuilding teams in this mode was the most fun I ever had. Every team had insane cap space so there was never any free agents. Those 7 draft picks became literal gold. It would take years to make a winning roster, and when you did, you remember where every player on your team came from. Highly recommend any madden franchise players to go back and create thier own league just as a nice change.

After watching your video you right. I do miss those preseason drills.

Two weeks after my first comment and I'm sitting here playing Madden 06 and loving every minute of it, thanks to this video. I went out and bought a used PS2 and Madden 02, 03, 05 Collector's Edition, 06, and 08. What stands out to me are the little details, such as the chain gang falling down when a player runs into them, or a helmet popping off on a big hit, or a player jumping over another player when they're down on the ground. OF course there's also all the things you've talked about that make these games great. Are there things that I miss in these games that are in the newer games? Sure, for instance, I kind of wish I could pick plays based on a specific player or play type in this game. However, without those I get to become more familiar with the details of the playbook I'm using. I have an Xbox 360 and some of the newer games, but I haven't touched them since I got these games and the PS2. They're just so much more fun to play. And I owe it pretty much to you and your videos. So thank you for that, and keep bringing the knowledge.

In the new Madden's you pretty much start franchise mode and almost instantly start playing. When I play Madden 08 its probably 2 hours before I even start my first preseason game because of all the preseason trades and free agent signings. Plus going through training camp is awesome. Such an awesome game with a super deep franchise that we probably will never get again..

For me that'd make it a little harder to get into the game. HOWEVER THE OPTIONS SHOULD ALL BE THERE HOMIE.

I trained myself on this game using "Situation Mode" and one of my favorites was coming back from 25 point deficit with a score of 28-3 with the 1990 Bills against the 1990 New York giants in my own personal "super bowl 25" and beat the giants with Thurmond Thomas and Others, I just loved every minute of it.

I can’t believe we let EA get away with making such a shitty game that doesn’t even deliver half as much as a game they made from 2007.

My favorite part of gameplay was switching to a lineman and blocking for the running back. That was hours of priceless fun.

It's so funny, because I always tell everyone that Madden 08 is one of the best Maddens we ever got. I put in around a thousand hours into that game. I miss when Madden was this good. Great video man. Also, I miss the Tony Bruno Show. When looking at all the older Madden's, I saw a screenshot of it, and it brought me all the way back.
