The largest operational Museum Ship in the World at Sea | Cap San Diego Hamburg

The historic Cargo Ship Cap San Diego was built in 1962 and is the largest operational Museum Ship in the Word today. It usually is docked at the Überseebrücke in Hamburg but does Cruises on the River Elbe a few Times per Year. This Video was shot during the Sea Passage from Rostock to Kiel.

A great ship, I've been on her a few times, the last time was around September 2018 when I stayed the night on her with my dad. I hope to go to Germany again and visit this ship.

Many of the older Volunteers there did too, but when the Cap San Diego still belonged to Hamburg Süd. I'm not that sure right now when it was sold, so maybe you may knew some of them, maybe not

English please. I'd guess that you read an automatic Portugese Translation of Title and Description. EDIT: But with my rough Spanish Skills I think that you are asking for Shots of Cargo Operations. Being a Museum Ship, the Cap San Diego doesn't do that anymore but the Loading Gear still is used to lift Equipment for Concerts in the Cargo Hold and similar Things aboard. And for the Motorcycle of one Crewmember. I'll see what I can do when I get there the next Time.

@@luidysilva5523 A real Demonstration of historic Cargo Operations was planned in October 2021, but had to be cancelled two Days before because some Crew got injured in an Accident. It was postponed until some Time this Year. I was sort of "hired" to film that Event, and hope that I can be there this Year too.

"Largest museum ship in the world", does that refer to largest "operating" museum ship? Beautiful ship, served on one similar (except it was steam) in the USN back in the 60's. Love seeing things like this preserved.

Yes. Though the two Libertys in the US aren't much smaller if I'm correct. Do you know about the two Victorys SS Lane Victory and SS American Victory? As far as I know they are both grounded because of Boiler Problems with at least the Lane Victory being intended for getting her steaming again.

@@markmark2080 If you're interested in historic Ships Germany and especially Hamburg is the Place to go. There is one more operational Cargo Ship in Hamburg, the largest Coal fired Steam Ship in the World and three more Steam Ships, all fired by Coal too, a Lightship and an old Tugboat. Almost all other major Port Cities like Bremen, Kiel or Lübeck have at least one operational Museum Ship too. In Dresden there also is the largest Fleet of Paddle Steamers but I think you can't visit the Engine Rooms there.

@@markmark2080 So the Lane Victory is getting her Boilers done but it still takes a lot of Time and Money and the Red Oak Victory has fired her Boilers for the first Time since Decades, all that's left is a Coast Guard/Classification Society Inspection.

That's normal and actually caused by repainting. Rust is inevitable when being around Sea Water, so you constantly have to chip Rust off and repaint the according Spot. That creates a small Irregularity in the Paint, and after 60 Years, every Spot has been chipped off and repainted dozens of Times. The only Way to get a smooth Finish would be stripping off and repainting the entire Ship again. Not even Cruise Ship Owners are willing to pay for that.
