The Largest Burial Site in North America
Ойын-сауық
Covering more than 600 acres, 100,000 monuments and 1.5 million bodies, the four cemeteries on Mount Royal in Montreal make up the largest burial site in North America. Founded in the 1850s, the four adjoining cemeteries feature spectacular landscaping, historic 19th-century crypts, spooky urban legends and hundreds of notable figures, including Prime Ministers, business leaders, sports stars, artists, writers, poets, musicians, composers, filmmakers, inventors, mobsters, murderers and even Titanic victims.

My grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins are all buried there and my Uncle George who died in WWII is also buried in the Military side. Such a beautiful place to visit every time we’re in Montreal
my wife and I were up their last weekend looking for my grandfathers burial site. And came across so many influential people that helped shaped quebec.
I used to work in Mount Royal Cemetery cutting grass in the summer as a 18 year old and did that a few years.

Knew someone who worked there, but maybe at the office on the west side.@@frlo7688
Took my mate from Berlin to Leonard's grave back in 2019. Fascinating place!
I was born in Montreal General Hospital in 1961 and still live within 20 km of the city. It’s a beautiful city (apart from the constant road work) and has a great history. As a teen I the 1970s all my friends from Toronto always wanted to visit for the bars open til 3am the clubs and music and General night life 24hour food and great Hash ( Citrolli) from the Middle East. They couldn’t get that in TO. And Steamies on The Main and Smoked meat Bagels and black cherry sofa and of course Spruce Beer ( like Root beer but clear and made from spruce sap)
I can’t wait till we travel there in May!! Our original trip was pre booked for May 2021, then Covid. This trip will be worth the extra wait! Thank you for sharing this video!
Great video as always.

I remember cutting grass there. G7 (iirc) used to take a long time to cut. It has probably changed a lot since the mid 80's.
So much of my family is buried there and the family plot is full now.My Dad is buried there but my mom gave up her spot to have him buried in her spot.Sad to think she wount be layed to rest with him.Im hoping someone will sprinkel my ashes on the family plot so i can return to my birth place and family.
Seems very special to the hearts of some people, but I can’t help but to think that this was a waste of space for the mountain… there’s only 1 city with a bona fide mountain within its downtown! Imagine if the other side was full of trees or parks/life
@DiscoverMontréal

Well, it doesn’t cover the entire mountain, there’s still a 600 acre park on the eastern half! I understand what you mean though.
I know what I’m doing this summer
3:05 Is the dude snowboarding on the cemetery ?? 🫥

Yes, Totally ignorant disrespect.
It's a mountain not a hill stop calling it a hill it's a mountain
Japan is the Land of the Rising Sun, not house.
I don't know why it bugs me, but this is a PSA for anyone who doesn't know: When you're speaking english, you can just say Mount Royal. You don't have to say "royal" in some weird attempt to speak French that honestly just sounds dumb every single time. And same with mount. not, "mawhnt". It's not Mawhnt Roy, AL. 😁

Haha tourists don’t know any better. They ask locals how it’s pronounced, they hear them pronounce it the French way and they try it in their best French accent. A for effort but yeah it sounds weird 🤣
