The Lake District | A Swindale Round with

Спорт

Hi Everyone
Welcome back to another video in the Lake District.
An adventure with a difference this time. A nice circular walk in the Swindale area, but this time it was split up with a wild camp on Grey Crag.
I was again joined by my good mate Mossy of ‪@Walkingwildcampinguk‬ fame, so please go and check out his channel for loads of cool video's and I'm sure there will be one of this walk.
We parked the car at a small car park on Swindale Lane, just before the green and white Cumbria City Council sign saying no parking after this point. Grid Reference is NY 521 142.
The route takes us up on the lane for just under a couple of miles before we head off up the hill on to the Old Corpse Road heading for the Wainwrights of Selside and Branstree.
Leaving Branstree we head down to the col between Mosedale and Longsleddale. Here we continue up the hill to the 3rd Wainwright of Tarn Crag, with its significant feature of it's summit the old survey pillar from the construction of the Haweswater Aqueduct.
Leaving Tarn Crag we cross the very boggy Greycrag Tarn before arriving at our final peak of the day of Grey Crag itself. Here we got the packs off our bags and set up our tents for the evening for a lovely summit wild camp.
If you are interested in doing this route then below is a link to the route in OS maps
explore.osmaps.com/route/2218...
Enjoy the video and stay tuned for part two shortly.
All the best and happy hiking
Dave

Hi Dave, Another goodun, and another wild Camp, nice one 🏕. We haven't been back to the Kentmere area since doing the Kentmere horse shoe a few years back, but we remember how quiet and scenic it is now, must get back there. Shame about the weather on your trip, hope it gets better for you for part 2🤞 Cheers Shell and Pete😊👊👍

Hi Guys, unfortunately, the weather didn't improve for the next morning, in fact it was worse. It was great fun though. If you do venture in to the area make sure you take boots and gaitors, no matter what time of year....it's a bog fest. Haha Thanks for watching and your support guys, it means a lot Cheers Dave

Yes mate, was good to get out again with Mossy and stick the tents up miles from anywhere. Haha. It was a good spot in the end but we did well as there isn’t many places on this route. It’s pretty much a bog fest from the moment you get off the lane until you are back on it. 🤣 C’mon mate it’s summer, you’re not expecting sunshine are you. 🤣 All the best Marra.

Hi Tony, where we got pitched was brilliant, but good spots in that area are very few and far between, it's a bog fest mate. I think we had the only non boggy patch of grass for miles! Haha As always thanks for taking time to watch mate.

Hi Ashley, it's very soft up there mate, very soft. I messed up really, I should have put my boots and gaiters on. I just wore my walking shoes and they got soaked. Fortunately I had the waterproof socks on so at least my actual feet stayed dry. It's a lovely area though. If you have never walked up Longsleddale or Swindale vallies I can really recommend you give them a go. It's beautiful The night was pretty calm although it started raining around 5.30. All the best to you both Dave

Waterproof socks is a new one on me, where do you get those? I have gaiters but I hate wearing them - sometimes It takes Andrea to keep me right. One day we will definitely take your recommendation as we love valley walks too. I'm sure you both had a blast at the camp!! Regards, Ashley

@@ashleyjarnold Hi Ashley, there are quite a few different makes. Mine are Sealskinz. They are not cheap, about £30 a pair but they are worth their weight in gold in wet damp boggy conditions. Valley walks are my favourite, especially at the end of a walk, when you have done all the hard work and you know you have a nice easy couple of miles back to the car through the base of a valley. 😀

Hi Jamie. Yeah cows on my walks seem to be a thing lately. Thankfully they don’t bother me. 🤣 It was a cracking evening, although pretty cold (it was June after all) You’ll see when I release the second part we weren’t quite so lucky with the weather on the Saturday morning. As always mate, thank you for taking time to watch and commenting. Have a great week mate. All the very best, Dave 😃🥾⛰🏕️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Hi mate. It wasn’t too windy, got a really good nights sleep to be honest. We weren’t too high, just over 600m. We had to summit camp as the rest of the route was a total bog fest. That area of the lakes is known for it. It wasn’t too nice for our walk back out which you’ll see in the next part, it was a bit claggy and started raining about 5.30ish. Were you a bit under the weather pal, is that why you were not feeling it? We are way this weekend then back in Wales for our holiday the weekend after so hoping to get a few early morning walks in the hills in. Enjoy the rest of the week mate All the best Dave 😀⛰🥾🏕️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Dunno tbh, combination of things maybe, the 5 mile walk in on tarmac and landy track probably didn’t help, my arthritis has probably been the worst ever this week but at least starting to settle down again, I’ve been trying to lose weight so maybe not eating enough of the right things, who knows 🤷‍♂️ hoping to get away ⛺️ for a few days this weekend with 3 maybe 4 walks planned so will have a better idea after that….maybe I’m just getting old mate 🙈😂😂 Enjoy your weekend away, hope you going somewhere nice and weather gods smile on you, Take care mate 😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
