The Kuleshov Effect in Practice: How to Cheat Different Locations | Filmmaking Basics

So what is the Kuleshov Effect?
In this video David shares how we have used the Kuleshov Effect to cheat two seperate locations to appear as if they share the same space. We used this editing technique on a recent music video for the very talented Rory Webley: Friendly Neighbourhood Poltergeist!
Although videos about the Kuleshov Effect generally talk about the concept of creating an emotional connection, it also comes into play in so many other ways!

That’s so cool I really did think they were the same location. And the window frame trick was great

professional video and informative! The Kuleshov Effect is such a simple concept in hindsight, yet creates all sorts of opportunities to guide the audience's mind in the direction intended. The same concept can apply to musical cues during the process of sound design.

Thank you for your kind words Scott! Yes! The same absolutely applies. Music and sound design and super powerful tools to help guide the audience as well. I love the sound design process and how simple techniques can invoke powerful emotions.
