@Jeremy Krause That gives you an advantage, but Andy Reid has always had success with backups when McNabb got hurt. Detmer, AJ Feeley, Jeff Garcia, who was an already established pro, and even Kevin Kolb. Throw in Michael Vick too I suppose even though he was more Kolb's replacement after McNabb went to DC.

@@spinner9057 Reid definitely is a great coach but I don’t think Detmer was really that good. Nice guy who is smart but he looked like a high school quarterback.

Detmer was a freakin hero that night. Let's not forget that AJ Feeley was ultra-clutch in the ensuing weeks, as well. What is it with the Eagles and backup QB's?

Happy 50th birthday to Koy Detmer, the creator of "the whupping stick" my favorite sports celebration of all time.

One thing that I feel like needs to be mentioned. Jeff Chandler is a rookie, drafted in the 4th round (102nd overall), and He's attempting his first NFL Field Goal in week 12. The NFL was a different place back in 2002...

The 49ers ensemble and helmet logo worn during this game are the best in team history. Sometimes you just gotta leave well alone. The current 49ers uniforms are nowhere near as good.

This was a masterfully called game by Reid. Koy always had the "it" factor. There were a couple drops in this game that would have even made this more legendary. Ppl shit on Pinkston but he tried his ass off in the run block game.

Koy played his ass off in this game.

Brian Mitchell was a beast

Most of the reason for Koy freaking out and doing that all time celebration is because 1) he loves ball 2) he knew where to go w the ball and accurately diagnosed defense and executed. Greatest trait

He was a good third receiver for them and the fact they had to go get him showed just how bad Freddie Mitchell was coming along as a receiver.

Eagles historically always had MONEY back up QBS, and IMAGINE IF Mcnabb didn't have Thrash, Lewis, Pinkston, Mitchell etc and had Owens and other prominent wideouts the Eagles would of had a couple of rings in the early to mid 2000's

Koy first play was a sack. he fell down without being touched. he got up and wrecked the niners at old Candelstick Park.. Koy balled out. Deuce played great too. great win..

I watched it live. It was cool watching the 49ers players showing him love as he was carted off.

I'm pretty sure the Eagles had this exact footage on their YT channel for awhile. Eventually they de-listed/removed the video for one reason or another.
