Beautiful walkout. It was an amazing display of gratitude from the fans and TKZ was happy, but we could have still had all of that without him getting KO’d stiff. I’m just saying that it should have been a fair fight. Not a 100% guaranteed obliteration.

I’m critical of UFC match making for OG fighters as well, but Zombie only wanted this fight. He was close to retiring after the Volk fight, but wanted one last run at the title. He felt beating Max would prove he still belongs and didn’t want to fight anyone lesser and lengthen his climb back because of his age. That’s the fight game. At least he’s smart enough to realize it’s time for him to hang it up and not end up like Tony Ferguson.

  • @kennwin

    @kennwin

    9 ай бұрын

Yup. They kept asking him if he was retiring, he said let’s see how the fight goes. He’s stubborn. If they gave him someone to beat like Ige, he’d keep fighting. He had to get dominated. Max is a good guy. He was the perfect choice. Picked him up and screamed at the crowd to cheer louder for TKZ! No other ranked fighters would show the respect that Max did. Not Ortega, Yair, Topuria, Emmett, etc.

TKZ wanted Max to be his retirement fight, obviously. And tbh it was better from him to end on a high by fighting another legend rather than fighting a younger fighter like Mitchell or Yusuf, or worse, another fighter with little stock like Emmet or Ige. This was best case scenario for TKZ and regardless of the KO, he left the fight game as a hero of the sport.

I scored it 29-28. You're mostly right. Giga was landing the better shots but according to stats Alex actually did slightly outland him in pure numbers in the first and second round. Not sure about third round numbers. Regardless numbers were close and the superior shots meant Giga deserved to win. I do think it was a bit closer than you think.

TKZ's chin was absolutely done and that was obvious from the second TKZ did anything good Max would hit him back and wobble him. I agree its sad to see him get KO'd stiff and wish maybe they did Caceres vs TKZ as the main event instead but Max did try to sub him and TKZ went after him hard in that third round and ultimately, I'd rather see TKZ get finished like that against a legend like Holloway than see him get randomly KO'd by Chikadze or Caceres or somebody else who couldnt beat a Prime TKZ. Plus this is the fight Zombie asked for and it was a great fight

TKZ wanted the Holloway fight. He wanted to retire if he was no longer in title contention. Beating Holloway would be another shot at the title for TKZ (potentially). Giving him to another older fighter wouldn’t move him closer to a title fight and there would be no point in fighting for him. That’s what I gathered from one of his interviews. I still would’ve liked to see him go out with a win.

  • @darkclaw1462

Tbf though (as I’ve said before) it’s not rare when fighters like TKZ who’ve been around for generations have had their retirement fights where end In getting KO’d. Look at Michael Bispings retirement fight with Kelvin Gastelum where he got KO’d, or Chuck Liddells retirement fight against Rich Franklin (most of the fans thought it was a bad idea, but Chuck wanted to do It). TKZ is no different, he wanted to go on his shield and fight Max, and while I do agree that TKZ deserved to go out on a win, he still went out his shield before he lost, which is just as admirable.

I don't say anything if they only cuddling on the fence without to try really something and are only holding for minutes but here Blanchfield didn't just hold Taila on the fence she constantly tried to get her down with different techniques and Santos was able to defend very well all attempts of Erin, this was high level grappling and great to watch if you know what both really did there

I think we r blamingthe ufc too much. Tkz wanted holloway to show he got what it takes for a title. Thats what he wanted. He got gifted the title set up and lost. Thats what he wanted. The title or quit. The ufc granted his wish

TKZ mentality has gotten him KOed stiff before. If he didn’t try to be a tough guy against Yair he never would got hit with that elbow and would have won an UD.

Yair went to split dec with casers lol and casers has been on Streak 7 wins out of 8 fights he would be on 8 fight win streak if not sodiq dec which some people consider for caserrs this fight wasn't as easy of a fight as it looked

LucasTracyMMA is what happens when the after-school karate kid brings teenage drama into professional sports. Like why is it that everyone is always doing each other dirty with you? Stop applying your school yard insecurities to better men. TKZ went out like a G. Max was a worthy retirement fight and not some pity fight. TKZ said it himself; he thought he could still do it. Sometimes you need to believe in yourself despite your detractors. At the same time, sometimes it takes a decisive loss to humble you and in a way help you make that decision in the end. TKZ probably thought “this fight is it. If I can’t beat Max Holloway, there’s definitely NO WAY I can beat Volk. And if I can’t have a shot at being the best, I’m out.” Bam. Legend. Idc what anyone says, guy went out like a boss.

How did they do him dirty? He wanted the Holloway fight and if he won we could have been the number 1 contender.

I understand where you coming from Man. But this is fight game. Me seeing TKZ getting KO'd doesn't diminish my view of him and still respect him they I respect him before. And I can say the same thing with Shogun. But IDK, we have differents point of view

  • @JonathanBrown623

The UFC did TKZ dirty. You could have him fight someone who was a fair fight for him but no you give him Max Holloway who is the 2nd most dangerous guy in the division.

I would like to see TKZ fight either Mitchell who is IMO the most favorable ranked fighter for TKZ or Cub Swanson another 145 legend but def a winnable fight for TKZ, in fact I think Zombie would win. Against Max, TKZ was overmatched.

tkz had to be sacrificed in order for the ufc to continue operating the way its been operating. i dont think its a big secret that dana HATES his fighters, especially champions, being able to walk away from the sport under their own power. now granted, tkz isnt a champion. but thats kind of the point. champions like GSP, khabib, and even former champs like lawler, might find a way to limp away from the sport just because, while declining, they still have experience on their side. if a solid, but not necessarily elite fighter like tkz doesnt get flatlined, it just ups the expectations for retiring champs. its some majorly abusive shit. almost like an abusive mom. where the ufc simultaneously wants whats good for its retiring champs (because the value of the belt they leave behind, partly hinges on the strength of the former champ), but also cant have them go out in an idyllic scenario. its kinda sick.

My counter argument would be, if TKZ went out there and chinned imanari roll Mitchell and got the dub, he wouldn't have retired. And let's be honest, this dude only retired because of how dominate Volk was against him. And I bet in his perspective, he figured if he could beat Max, he'd have a shot against Volk in a rematch plus, it would instantly give him the winner between Ilia and Volk. He had to lose to retire.

TKZ after the fight said he legit was only interested in continuing fighting if he was moving towards a title, and a win over max was a clear way to do that. Why not let him retire by competing against the best, if he wasn’t interested in fighting Holloway he wouldn’t have fought Holloway. Why are we talking about this like fighters, especially veterans, don’t turn down and pick and choose their fights constantly. He clearly wanted to compete against a top guy. I don’t see the big deal
