The Klansman | Classic Crime Drama

Фильм және анимация

The Klansman - A local Sheriff tries to keep the peace as racial strife hits his small Alabama town as tensions boil over when a black man is accused of raping a white woman.
The Klansman (1974)
Director: Terence Young
Writers: William Bradford Huie, Millard Kaufman, Samuel Fuller
Stars: Lee Marvin, Richard Burton, Cameron Mitchell
Genre: Crime, Drama, Thriller
Country: United States
Language: English
Also Known As: The Burning Cross
Release Date: October 25, 1974 (West Germany)
Filming Location: Oroville, California, USA
Synopsis:
A small southern town has just been rocked by a tragedy: a young woman has been violently r*ped. The white town fathers immediately declare that the attacker had to be black, and place the blame on Garth, a young black man. Assuming that the men in white sheets aren't intent on holding a fair and impartial trial, Garth takes to the woods as the Klansmen lynching party hunts him down.
Reviews:
Terence Young is an efficient director and storyteller who never dramatizes his films, like as if he assumes they are dramatic enough by themselves for their mere stories. This film is full of r*pes, sensational and spectacular murders and even a massacre, but it never follows all these extremely dramatic occurrences through but leaves them sort of unfinished. But the direction is skilful to say the least. Actors like Richard Burton, Lee Marvin, O.J.Simpson, Cameron Mitchell and others don't get the chance to play out their roles for the speed and efficiency of the story, although they all make great characters and act splendidly. It's an awesome story with many critical turns to it, and although the quality of the film approaches level B the film should be remembered and discussed for its story, like a testimony of the true nature of the klan. It's not a beautiful fairy tale but rather grim reality all the way, although it pretends to be fiction. It reminds you of other revolting films from the south, like Arthur Penn's "The Chase" with Marlon Brando and "In the Heat of the Night" with Rod Steiger/Sidney Poitier, but this is much more to the point. It shows and explains racism in a way that makes it impossible for any racist to remain so after having seen this minor but important film.

Lee Marvin was a scout sniper in World War 2. He was wounded twice in the Pacific. He was in the hospital for almost a year recovering from his wounds and took up acting because it calmed his mind. They called it shell shock, then battle fatigue and now it's PTSD. I was Navy special operations and I understand. Semper Fi.

Whilst working as that plumber's assistant, he was asked to replace an actor who had gotten ill during rehearsals. Nice try but the KKK has ALWAYS been Far Right Wing. The South has ALWAYS been a Conservative stronghold. The KKK supported Trump in 2016 as per their official newspaper the Crusader. Many prominent Klan leaders still support him. The Klan was present in Charlottesville. Last I checked Charlottesville was a Unite The Right Rally. Maybe it's time you come up with some new material but the stuff you are spewing is getting old.

Thank You for sharing this film. Appropriate because of the recent Trump dinners at Mar a Lago and there are good people on both sides comment by Donald. i always like the drama of these older movies. No special effects, just good old guns and fire. I recently watched Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin in " Paint Your Wagon" which as a lot of fun. Has some remote similarities, but no Klan or racial content. Clint sings a few numbers as dd Lee Marvin. The gold rush was the theme. Highly recommended if you liked this at all. I bought the movie track sound and film so I can watch it and listen to it anytime.. Love to Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin.
