The Kirtland Safety Society

On January 2, 1837, God's bank was established on earth by revelation to his prophet Joseph Smith. It was believed that it would grow and flourish, and become the greatest banking institution on earth. In less than a year, it failed catastrophically, and hundreds of saints left the church.

When I was in Seminary, the Kirtland Bank disaster was carefully worded and distorted in context to subtly blame it on the rank-and-file members. But isn't that what the LDS church has always done?

This is starting to make so much sense now. Those who stayed in the Church in spite of such crushing evidence against Joseph Smith's prophetic nature carried with them the tenancy of denial. It might be cultural. It might be genetic. But what ever it may be, they passed it onto their descendants. This is why we have so many members of the church stay in the church in spite of learning about these kinds of things.

Part of the reasons. The death oaths in the temples, and close knit family ties are some of the factors also. The we v. them ideology of fear too.

It's like all the others just go about it the wrong way unlike this video. I personally like the calm feeling and the points are listed instead of the loud and aggressive feel which also many time has failed the points put out. Thank You

But then again I also see you using a mirroring technique, similar to the church videos, that in away those who are Mormon would undoubtedly understand with vast majority of the lower small minded people and lack of progression in life. Very clever. I do see a lot of of the things you've put in here which IMO would be on par with basic imbedding and triggers to therefor make your argument more convincing. Now I truly applaud you with your skill, and power that you wield. So I wish you'd good luck.

Why were people back then so easily persuaded by magic folklore? Following a seerist and then back to Joseph... what was it back then that caused people to attach to things so easily. Or do we still see people fooled away into religious folklore such things as easily today? I would say we dont today, but back then it seems people were drawn to superstitious magic folklore much easier

Many weren't taken in at all. It's only necessary to fool enough people to get the cult going. Living in relative isolation and creating an "us against them" persecution myth helped lock them in.

"At this time a certain young woman, who was living at David Whitmer’s, uttered a prophecy, which she said was given her, by looking through a black stone that she had found. This prophecy gave some altogether a new idea of things. She said, the reason why one-third of the Church would turn away from Joseph, was because that he was in transgression himself; that he would fall from his office on account of the same; that David Whitmer or Martin Harris would fill Joseph’s place; and that the one who did not succeed him, would be the Counselor to the one that did. The girl soon me an object of attention among those who were disaffected. Dr. Williams, the ex-justice of the peace, became her scribe, and wrote her revelations for her. Jared Carter, who lived in the same house with David Whitmer, soon imbibed the same spirit, and I was informed, that he said in one of their meetings, that he had power to raise “Joe Smith’ to the highest heavens, or sink him down to the lowest hell. ...They held their secret meetings at David Whitmer’s, and when the young woman, who was their instructress, was through giving what revelations she intended for the evening, she would jump out of her chair and dance over the floor, boasting of her power, until she was perfectly exhausted. Her proselytes would also, in the most vehement manner, proclaim their purity and holiness, and the mighty power which they were going to have." -Lucy Smith: Biographical Sketches, pp. 211-213

Your church is already shrinking in relation to the world population, and will officially be in decline by 2030. 36% of people born in the LDS church leave and never come back. Less than half of millennials born in the church are still members. 34 percent of Gen Z are religiously unaffiliated, and that number is climbing. Only a third of gen Z members are predicted to stay in the church. Your active membership is less than five million. That's only 0.06% of the world population. That is as high as that percentage will ever be.

This is, I must say, the slickest anti-Mormon propaganda I have seen to date. The distorted use of truth and half-truth, the background music, and graphics are markedly more sophisticated than in past efforts by apostates. We are not deceived however. And no one else need be.
