Totally agree! 👍🏻
Sleepwalker is one of my favorites of '70s. Juke Box Music
Celluloid Heroes reminds me of the pathos of ‘ Puff the Magic Dragon’....’Where do you go to my lovely’.....that sort of chord sequence lends itself to melancholy and nostalgia
I grew up not far from Hollywood Blvd. Saw the Kinks 3 times in the seventies. No Other band like them! They created a style that many tried to emulate but failed but failed miserably big time!!
The Davies brothers are/were so gorgeous.

That was an everything sync'ed for Sleepwalker. Gotta love them going through the motions LOL. Live Celluloid, I would agree.

Few here are aware of the song you're referring to.
Saw the Kinks on this tour. Detroit May 1977. They played Cobo Hall.
Thanks for posting this performance by my favorite group. This is my introduction to this performance.
The Kinks are a garage band fronted by a brilliant songwriter. Johnny Rotten says that they invented punk rock.

yup, check out their early stuff. pure punk...limited chords, atonal sometimes. Later they got more melodic, they are ever changing and evolving.
Simplemente uno de los mejores, para Mí el mejor, letrista de Rock, Ray Davies, y claro uno de mis grupos favoritos .
"Rock-On" with The Kinks! Ray and Dave cool Englishmen from the British Invasion. They can invade my music space anytime!
Yeah, Sleepwalker was sync'ed because of the promotion of the album, but Celluloid Heroes was totally live, as a complement. Marvelous complement.

None of it was live. Both songs had a full compliment of backup singing. But you can tell they set out to make it look live with all their equipment and the guitars were even plugged in.
Сильная группа жаль в семидесятых было мало их записей рок 🎸 навсегда
Mike Douglas was cool. He always had great Rock acts on his show. I remember it would come on after we got out of school in the afternoon. Always something great to look forward to. Additional you have Tony Bennett there I don't know who the other lady is. Too bad we don't have shows like this anymore.
Thank u 4 posting this, as a big Kinks/Philly fan, on the Mike Douglas show. Time traveling at it's very best.
WHAT a SINGER. SO great ! Ray Davies was AWESOME here !
Very under rated band . Dave Davies is as good a writer / poet in the last 6 decades. It always makes me happy to hear them

Tens of millions of records sold. I am so tired of the word "underrated" being used for so many successful acts. Maybe the meanings of words are underrated?

Simply superb!!!
I remember seeing this with my Granny afterschool oh so many years ago. Mike Douglas did have some rock guests out of left field that made you HAVE to check the guest list before going out to play.

oh noooooo!!- lip-synching! I guess they figured the live amps would scare the hell out of Mike's crowd. Excellent vid! good Quality. Wait! C. Heroes has a live vocal. Even better

Omg after Ray said "I might come in for a bite" he actually bit omg stop
Cell Heroes! That was great! Prerecorded or whatever.
Celluloid Heroes... amazing title
If i reborn after my coming death someday, i hope Ray Davies reborns in that very same era to keep my feet on the ground and ears receiving his music. Long live the Kinks!
Naomi... This group its great.. I now since the 70.s.
Exceptional 💙
I’ll always be a fan of Ray Davies and the Kinks!
Congratulations Sam !

The Rolling Stones were pornographic, The Kinks were geographic! VH-1 had a program, "Storytellers" about bands who's songs told stories. The Kinks OWNED that program!
Celluloid heroes was one of their many greats.
Over a span of about 25 years, Ray Davies just continued to write hit songs. Can any other musician make that claim?
The Kinks SOOOOOOO UNDERATED
Lovely guitar Dave is playing.
This is an anthem!

GOD SAVE THE KINKS !
They had the craziest "Brotherly" hate/love musician-relationship. I keep hoping someday there will be a movie about them. It would be EPIC! btw.... First band I ever saw live, 1982. No other rock and roll story compares
No lip sync just that good
Sweet Gibson Dave.
かっこいい🎵
Back around 2008-2012 I worked in an area of London near Marylebone and would see a much older but hip Ray walking with lady friend trying to stay out of the limelight. The interesting thing was it was always on a street called Davies St…coincidence?
❤❤❤❤❤
God save the Kinks.❤
I am no sleepwalker i am a night owl when every body's going to bed I wide awake its driving me nuts
God Bless the Kinks , and Mike Douglas
Dave playing a Gibson L5S. A rare bird axe. Impossible to find today.

On the Mike Douglas Show The bands did not lip sync.

But they clearly did. Else, why did they cut his mic at 3:50 - 3:59? Watch his mouth.
I always thought the intro to "Celluloid Heroes" sounded like "This little piggy went to market" Lol
yep lip synced no if's no but's and i agree the version on the old grey whistle test was the best
@Def14121 Actually, you got it wrong. The Joker came out in '73 and Sleepwalker came out in '77. Still, I think the similarities between the songs are minimal and God knows Miller owes a much greater debt of gratitude to Davies in terms of songwriting.
I know right... their best version of sleepwalker is actually the 1977 whistle blower live version, brilliant, better key than the live version.
God save the KINKS

Dave is very cute here. Nice person also. Perfection. X

John Gosling- amazing
John Gosling looks like a Klingon. Never noticed that before.
THE most underated band ever. And you can add Rays writing in the same category...…..THZ Alex K...…………...17 dislikes?
I don't think "Celluloid Heroes" is lip synced because it sounds different than the studio version and it's shorter.

A lot of the kinks songs are more than three and a half minutes which is the amount of time most songs are but ray always dune what he liked the men at the top must think people's a tension span is 3 and a half minutes long when it comes to music 🐒
That sounded exactly like the record (which I have)
Reason for lip sync -They probably couldn't afford to fly a whole entourage to the USA for this appearance. Today the TV show would cover the cost.
It's a great performance whether or not they faked it or not. "Sleepwalker" live at the Old Grey Whistle Test" is far superior to this however. (IMHO) Dave plays the Les Paul Goldtop and Ray has a button stuck on his head (Kooky guy!) & they had a real vintage sound, unlike this version that sounds exactly like the studio version. :)
