    One of the most intelligent 'in-vogue' bands to come out of Britain at the time. Dave Davies was a freakin' musical genius to be honest. This was the band near the end of its career here - remember it formed in '64...The peak for this outfit was between 1965 - 1972. They were never going to be like The Rolling Stones as they are a completely band. Their music was influenced by a wide range of genres, including rhythm and blues, British music hall, folk and country. They gained a reputation for reflecting English culture and lifestyle, fuelled by Ray Davies' observational writing style and are considered one of the most influential groups of the period. To this day I believe 'Lola' to be one of thee greatest ever rock songs in the history of the genre. All-in-all I also believe The Kinks to be the original god-fathers of punk. Don't bother arguing that either as you will lose.

    Blackscorpion1963 Could you give me a couple songs by them other then this that sound punk? lol

  • @Blackscorpion1963

    @Blackscorpion1963

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@xanderkennedy9838 Hey while you may add lol, it's actually a fair and reasonable question that to answer in short is easy - there isn't any. That doesn't mean that The Kinks were not the original god-fathers of punk. Because it is in the context not the sound of the band where my reasoning is. The musical genius of Ray Davies i.e. his intellect and mind combined with the other members of The Kinks laid the foundations for the next generation to come along and create the real punk sound. Most people believe Joey Ramone, Lou Reed, and Iggy Pop and Iggy getting the winning vote as to the god-father of punk title. However even before those 3 great artists, Ray Davies and The Kinks were already laying the foundations of punk. Still not convinced. Ok let me lay down the f-a-c-t-s then, the numbers. Joey Ramone and The Ramones began in 1974. Lou Reed & in particular The Velvet Underground began in 1964. Iggy Pop and in particular The Stooges began in 1960. Ray Davies & The Kinks were born in 1964. But the debate isn't about who was born first. It is about who influenced the world of music so much to the extent that the punk revolution was created. Now I've stated it is Ray Davies of The Kinks. I believe I am now going to study in greater detail all of the great artists I have just mentioned more. As just who is the god-father to punk requires more study. That doesn't mean my suggestion is wrong or incorrect. It means, the science isn't settled.

    @@Chris-pe6xj Don't worry I'm knockin' on the big six-0 and I only started really listening to The Kinks seriously around '87 when I would have been 24 over here in New Zealand. I bought 2 double cassette albums; 'The Best Of The Kinks 1977 - 1986' & the live; 'One For The Road'. Only over the years have I really learned more about this incredible group. More recently I watched a music documentary on TV about the Kinks album; 'The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society' think this is it; 'The Kinks: Echoes of a World - The Story of the Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society' and found it absolutely fascinating. I just discovered Ray Davies to be so culturally aware and a highly intelligent gentleman overall. Love your 70 Lemans too - would've been v cool. Not quite as many options as the GTO nevertheless it's not all about 'options' either. Please check my Flickr webpage out - I'm a hobby photographer and one of my passions is American & Australian classic/muscle/pony cars, hot rods, pickups, motorcycles, and trucks - here's an album to start off with: www.flickr.com/photos/35707376@N00/albums/72157720168205011
