My favorite version of this song!!! It feels like I am back in the 1550's actually living in that time period. Great song!
Alas, my love, you do me wrong, To cast me off discourteously. And I have loved you so long, Delighting in your company. Greensleeves was all my joy Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, And who but my lady Greensleeves. I have been ready at your hand, To grant whatever you would crave, I have both wagered life and land, Your love and goodwill for to have. Greensleeves was all my joy Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, And who but my lady Greensleeves. Well, I will pray to God on high, that thou my constancy may see, And that yet once before I die, Thou wilt vouchsafe to love me. Greensleeves was all my joy Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, And who but my lady Greensleeves.
The counter tenor voice pierces my soul.
Playing this at my wedding, funeral, every fucking day I love it so much
WOW .. I have now listened to 3 versions of this melody.. AND they are all FANTASTIC .. I cannot choose between them at all.. Which means all the newer guys have slotted in and fit the bill, 'The King's Singers' sound is still a wonder to behold and listen to.. WOW
I keep hearing "What Child Is This" in my head as I listen.

Same tune, but centuries apart. A lot of research out there on this. We know it was published in 1580, anonymously, as Greensleeves. Many believe it was a love song written by Henry VIII to woo Anne Boleyn, but Henry died in 1547. 300 years later William Chatterton Dix borrowed the tune and wrote the “What Child is This” lyrics for it, making it the Christmas song we all still hear. To further complicate things there is evidence that this song was actually around long before we knew it as Greensleeves. Obviously one of the greatest hits of all time! 🎶😊

Only the bass can probably sing this deep and for this you need several deep voices.

@@arthurmorgan7557 i think there's another version on the OST that had higher voice. Anyway I'm sure they can come out with something great.
I am very sure that Simon Carrington, one of the founders, would be very proud of this new group. They really have understood and performed the concept that the original founders wanted to convey.
Amazing Grace how sweet the sound! Ciao from an ex Londoner Who loves music and a cappella singing...
Very beautiful
The crescendo part gives me chills it’s so beautifully mastered. Phenomenal job !!!!

A worthy contender in the Greensleeves market!
Anyone else remember the original King's Singers changing this to "Green Shield Stamps" for a verse?

Really beautiful gentlemen! I'm curious, why the lineup position change? Do Pat/Tim and Johnny/Chris switch which parts they sing, or is the change for acoustic reasons? It sounded like Johnny on the lowest bass note @ the end, but I'm not positive

Laurie Magoon the swap is not voice parts, it’s for practical and acoustic reasons. The four parts standing in the middle sing the repeating pattern as a team, whilst CG and TWW have solo and descant parts which are more easily heard from the ends. Simples!

The King's Singers Thanks! I rather suspected it was for acoustic reasons, but you guys are the authority! Much appreciate the reply!
looks like henry is making his new album XD
Bu şarkı 8.Henry'nin yazdığı mı? Bunun tam orjinal çevirisini nereden nasıl bulabilirim? Greensleeves'in orjinal Türkçe çevirisini nerede bulabilirim? Bilen var mı?

The solo was sung by the second baryton in this King Singer rendition as opposed to the first baryton in the 2009 group's version of the same piece which changes the richness of the overall blend.
