The Kinetic Universe - 10,000 Dominoes, 400 Machine Steps

Ойын-сауық

Welcome to The Kinetic Universe. One year of work, 10,000 dominoes, and 400 machine steps went into this project. This is, without a doubt, the best domino and machine video I have ever made.

Oh my goodness is all I can really say towards this video. Usually when I'm writing these comments, I have an idea on where to start with it, but this has been an extremely rare exception. This video is absolutely incredible when it comes to ideas and execution, and both were done so incredibly well that just calling out a few specific parts that I loved wouldn't give this video the justice it deserves. This video was absolutely incredible Alex, a little over a years worth of work had the most incredible payoff I've ever seen. This was incredible!

This video is an admirable work of art. Long-term projects like these that communicate a story are something I want to see more of in the community - passion projects are always so few and far between. I always love seeing domino setups with machines intertwined within them, so I was happy to have a full ten minutes of beautiful hybrid setups. The color coordination and symbolic themes behind each setup were remarkable - my favorite parts of the entire video were the green section, the dark section, the rotating ball chain in the yellow section, the pulley domino trick in the red section, and the circular field in the center of the final setup. Beautiful job; thank you for bringing this premise into reality.

This is one of the best video's i've seen in a while. Absolutely love the concept. The way how you show each world on its own and then bring them all together makes everything way better. Besides that, the setups themselves were really creative and easy to follow. It is difficult to make a 10 minute long domino/RGM video interesting, but you totally crushed it here!

Holy cow...it's been a while I've felt this way after a domino video. I can't believe how you made all these machine tricks so reliable that it all worked perfectly in the final setup. The calm music, the different aesthetic in each build was so unique to a regular domino video. This is truly the encapsulation of what kind of a builder flash domino is. And I love it.

I am stunned. This video goes beyond everything i have ever seen in this community. It truly is the best domino-machine video, and all the different styles made it interesting and really exciting to watch. My favourite part was the one in pure darkness, where the different sections were revealed through the light. The color coding and the chain reaction tricks were both insanely well made, and the plastic straws (?) you use as tracks gave the entire build a completely new style! You really are a huge inspiration for my own machines. With all that being said- keep up your great videos, i love them all and have a nice day!

This video is nothing short of incredible, it not only feels like a culmination of everything good about chain reaction art but also a step forwards at the same time. Each and every section is perfectly crafted in a way that only that could only be achieved by a true master of this artform, which through this and other projects, you have proven yourself to be. The colours and the decorations are beautiful throughout and they succeed greatly in making each clip feel like a real world with its own people, scenery and stories. The tricks are very creative and even the ones that aren't completely new still feel fresh due to how exceptionally smooth and controlled the motions are. The editing deserves to be mentioned too, as the structure and the flow of the video was highly engaging and the music choice was excellent as well. This project as a whole is honestly near perfect, if not just that, and it is definitely one of my favourite chain reaction videos of all time, amazing work Alex, I can't wait to see what your next worlds will look like. :)

I only managed to see this now, but man as Gabe said, I am in awe. This video is truely some of the best of chain reaction art that ive ever seen. This project represents what chain reaction art is in such a beautiful way. Each setup is a separate world, which come together as a universe with endless possibilities. Each builder's universe is different and unique. This all is represented in such a wonderful way with how each section of the final project (as the universe) is made up of the smaller setups (as the worlds). Combined together with the beautiful color schemes, theming and story of each setup, it really brings together a full and diverse universe. I know some of us in the community really feel lately that this art form is turning into a copy and pase job by everyone, but this project really is an amazing refresher on what chain reaction art truely is and where its beauty truely lies. This project really has inspired me to return to building and with a new perspective that I hadnt really thought about before. Amazing work on this Alex, I cannot stress how amazing this project is.

I'm very impressed -- a lot of very careful design and theming work clearly went into this, and it really shows and it really paid off!! The setups were constructed with such vivid styles that it really did feel like exploring different worlds; in The Chronicles of Narnia, there is a forest with clear pools on the ground and diving into each pool takes someone to a different world, and this video truly felt like a trip through that forest :) The finale did a fantastic job of juxtaposing each of the styles against each other to really show the immense variety of aesthetics that kinetic art can produce (and what a clever way to reveal the darkened world in a lighted room!). By combining the distinct motifs of each world, it reminded me a lot of an overture at the beginning of an AJR album, or a full cast reprise at the end of a musical. I think really my biggest takeaway here is that you should be incredibly proud of what you've made. The fact that your work easily invites comparisons to other art media (literature, music, theatre) is pretty incontrovertible proof that kinetic art truly is art. Revealing the darkened world chamber by chamber was so clever, and the burning world and utopia both struck me as very clever incorporations of form and art. The unique personalities of each of the worlds scratched the same itch for me that good fantasy does. I want to imagine the stories of these worlds, how they came to be, what made them what they are. That's good worldbuilding, and this was worldbuilding in the most literal sense of the word.

This is incredible and I'm in awe. I don't think anything I can say will mean much, and after reading about how you made it it's clear that you know exactly what you've created by looking back at the end of the process. When you talked in the Google Doc about taking on a project that would take this much time and be this much of a commitment, I related to what you said. It's hard to see where you are in the large scale while you're in the thick of it, and I'm glad that you came to a conclusion that you were happy with. I also wanted to add that I think "Nothing Until" was beautiful and brilliant. This is a project that the community will treasure for a long time, if not forever.

As far as I see, there will rarely ever be any deep concepts in the world of chain reactions that are so peaceful, so creative, and yet so delicately touched that could ever be more beautiful than this one. It all really shows the deeper look inside a view of the world using chain reactions and dominoes. The video also expresses the keen results when you put all your effort into something without fails, and make it look how you want it to. This view of the world has been opened by you and will now never be forgotten. Thanks for being such a terrific artist, and I hope you really get the feedback you want from this awesome video. :)

I found all the Turtwigs except maybe Utopia Building Blocks: near the yellow car with the track Forest Wanderers: Behind the green clothespin that launches ball into funnel [Everything was green including turtwig so that was challenging] Darkness: The last box lit in the top right Ocean: near the frisbees left side Utopia: The hardest because the camera went zoooom because dominoes go so fast and there are so many dominoes. I think in the pyramid or under the bridge but I’m not sure Hybrid Heart: in the clutter of materials by the rolling bowl thing Burning Down: Careful there! What if a red domino uses a fire type move! It’s by the moving domino structures in the start The Grand Finale: The Turtwig that starts it? Or the Turtwig near the start Edit: this is like a Pokémon region with all the types. I’ve never been good at color coding or machine art but this is big inspiration! Brother, I have two speeds of building dominoes, I have a fast speed and a faster speed, that explains why I post domino videos very often, you spent over a year on this project, and this was absolutely worth the wait, you are an incredible builder, and all your video are absolutely and this is no exception, if I see a domino video that took a long time to make, sometimes I comment cause chain reaction artists, do spend hours, or heck, even months or a year like you did, and I feel like a nice comment will make them fell like it wasn’t a waste of time. Chain reaction art will never be a waste of time!!!!!

What a great concept piece. This made me consider what facets of kinetic art had inspired my style over the years and what I feel most enamored by today, as well as what facets other builders tend to gravitate towards as well. This project was wonderfully composed from start to finish. You've always been at the forefront of conceptual kinetic art and I think this video proves how well you've mastered the craft.

Watching this video, I genuinely felt a feeling that words simply can not describe. I can not even fathom how difficult it was pulling this off and the amount of work visible and required for this calibre of project is absolutely astounding. As well as this, the entire idea of a universe with all different styles is on a complete different level of creativity and innovation. Keep in mind that all of this has got to be planned and built intricately, with delicate decorations to think about on the side. Small things and details in the setup compliment the overall theme and the world which brings everything together. And to top it all off, an incredible music choice was picked which brings another layer of emotion into watching this video. You should be extremely proud of yourself for making this project a reality, and thank you so much for bringing this to the community! Your 600 hours will surely be appreciated by this admittedly small, but cheerful community who will mark this down as one of the greatest moments in domino history :) Also Orange and purple is my favourite colour combo so in my opinion the middle world looks astounding :D
