A lot of people watched Forrestfire’s Batman videos as kids, same here, so coming back to them years later it’s funny watching them and actually understanding the adult humour. Tho there were jokes I didn’t get as a kid the videos were still creative, funny, well put together and violent that I’d still be entertained. But this was the one that really threw me for a loop. However on returning to it and finally getting it, I don’t feel mind blown or nostalgic. I feel intrigued and saddened. This is a great adaptation of the Killing Joke Speech. The atmosphere, the calmness, the simplicity of the setting, the sadness and the Batman Returns music all make it really tremendous.

I remember watching this years ago having no clue what the Killing Joke even was, so the dialogue was pretty surreal to me. I didn't really understand it back then seeing as I had no context, but now I appreciate it for the classic that it is. "Something like that... Something like that happened to me, you know." Is the most tragic the Joker has ever felt to me, and it's all because of how it's delivered here.

obviously no one is saying the joker should become a preacher or anything. I think what people are meaning to say is the basis of his philosophy makes sense. the world literally is just a ticking time bomb. one wrong move in the middle east and we are all in some serious shit. one bad day for a normal guy and the next day he is shooting up a mall. and all this conflict and tension built up over materialistic goods and values. humans will ultimately be their own downfall.

I think this is a great demonstration on the conflict between Batman and the Joker. The Joker believes the world is nihilistic, there's no point to any of it, but people are delusional and try to force themselves to believe there are reasons for it all. That there is a reason why the bad things happen, that the laws in place works, but the Joker "sees through" that and that it's all pointless and he finds it hilarious why everyone keep believing there's a point to it all. Batman is the complete opposite. He believes in that the system can work if only you get out the corrupt part. People can be rehabilitated, bad people get due process and sent to jail. He believes there is a good and bad and that the good will prevail, which is why he doesn't do the thing the Joker wants him to do, kill him. He doesn't kill the Joker because it's not his decision, it's the courts, but the Joker and even Batman himself points out that the Joker just escapes and does the same evil again and again, which is why the Joker is so frustrated with Batman and why he doesn't see the pointlessness of it all and the reason is because Batman believes that the system CAN work and he just needs to fight for it. The whole battle is between order and chaos. Justice vs anarchy. An unstoppable force vs an immovable object. Batman vs the Joker

Sir Nils Olav For me, Batman is the perfect representation of the Nietzschean ubermensch, he’s constantly pushed by the death of his parents, Jason, The Gordon Family, Damian Wayne, Alfred, but he always keep up, become stronger and work harder. The Joker is the perfect representation of Nihilism, after one bad day, he abandoned the sanity and becomes insane, like a coward.

The delivery in this video that was made years ago is a lot better than the official one. And I don't blame Mark, it was probably the direction he was given but he just sounds mildly annoyed the whole time. The actor here has Joker go through a range of emotions and even sounds somber at the end. It's just a lot more impactful.

I love how the joker is self aware of his own insanity and how he knows how not serious the real world is. He literally shows how pointless sanity is and that sanity doesn't really even exist. That's a fucking villain man

+Atomic PowerThey completely misunderstood the tone in the scene, you were supposed to feel sorry for the joker. This does a far better job at capturing that because as fans we understand the comics more than Warner Bros will ever be able to, which makes me sad as this is as close as we can get to seeing the masterpiece achieved through animated format.

When I was younger, I never understood this. Why wasn't Batman cracking the Joker's head open like a fucking watermelon? What was all this about one bad day? And now, coming back to it, after reading the book, I understand it now. I understand that the Joker could have never gone mad, he could have had a normal life, but one bad day made that impossible. One bad day...

I like to think of Joker as someone who went through something so traumatic that he completely snapped and lost who he was. To cope, he lost the ability to care about anything or anyone. That's why he thinks life and everything in it is just a joke because if you don't care, you're free from any anguish
