Check your shoulder alignment with driver. If your ball position is correct (off left instep for right hand player) make sure you're not turning your shoulders to the ball as this can exaggerate a slice. I had this issue for many years myself. It feels super weird at first and you'll feel like you're aiming way far right. The best way to check this is set up to the ball with driver and then lay the driver shaft across your shoulders and have someone look down it. Your shoulders should be parallel to your feet. I started lessons this summer and in my opinion it's more than worth the money, much more than any equipment I've ever bought! Hope this helps!

I’ve watched hours of “how to’s” to fix your slice and none have ever worked for me, until I watched one video and it clicked… I’ll get to that in a second. Coming from playing baseball when I was younger your taught all your power comes from your hips to start your swing, that explosive burst of twisting hips and then you “pull” the bat through. In my golf swing I found the harder I tried to rotate my hips the more exaggerated my get my slice would get, because it would end up opening the face of my club (driver) and when I would pull through it would bring my hands forward and rotating them in a clock wise fashion on my down swing. For you baseball players it basically felt like trying to swing at a ball just below knee height over the plate. Here is what clicked for me in the video I watched. I found out it wasn’t my stance, wasn’t my grip, wasn’t I didn’t tuck my elbow. It was bringing a different sport I never played into the equation. It was actually making my swing replicate that of a Hockey player. Where your lower body stays square, but on your backswing your arms stay straight, but your shoulders turn. Just imagine holding your club normally but slide your bottom hand down the shaft till your elbow locks out and then bring it back just like a hockey player does. This was the “ahh ha” moment for me as when I would come on my down swing it was my shoulders turning first, keeping my club head in the exact place I had it and not opening up when I brought my hips first. Once I started my downswing my shoulders would turn and my hips would then follow, and as I got used the the swing change I could then bring my hips with my shoulders to rotate even faster. So now instead of having a ball off the tee that went 200yards straight and did a 90* turn another 100 yards, may go 10-15 yards to the right, or on occasion a draw. I swear my slice was so bad I could’ve entered a trick shot competition with it. I would love to go on a simulator and just how much changing my backswing has changed my approach angle and other things.

This all makes sense to me but I have been playing golf a long time and is a great explanation on how to fix the slice. I think it would be helpful to explain what impact the swing path and face angle are having on the ball. With a slice the ball spins clockwise looking down, with a draw counterclockwise (right handed player). The spin is what causes the ball to move left or right from center. Thanks for the great content Grant and GG

I started playing golf for fun when I was 12 with my brother, and I had grown up playing baseball which I continued into high school. BUT I actually never hit a slice and I found I naturally had an overly strong grip position naturally when aligned. Thought that was interesting, got lucky with that cause it led to me really enjoying golf probably more than I would have, and I played golf in high school getting a lot of free golf, and it became a huge passion in my life.

Awesome job, Grant! Another point I would add to this would be alignment, and how to visualize aiming properly. I'd estimate that about 90% of beginners/slicers are aimed 10+ degrees right of their intended target, and have no idea that they're doing it. But your brain knows, and tries to pull the ball back to the target. The out-to-in path naturally occurs, as it must. This is a crucial step to curing a slice, imo. Apart from that single omission, you totally nailed it. 👌

This is a great video but another huge reason people struggle to fix their slice is because they don't know how to release the club through impact correctly, and I'm not talking about getting "handsy" and flipping. A stronger (technically neutral) grip helps but if you're not releasing the club you'll get very confused like I did. I can hit a fade or draw now and I release the club on both shots, I just adjust my grip a few degrees stronger/weaker and make the same swing because I was never able to control my club path consistently enough to work the ball that way. Hope this helps someone!

At first they were impressed with the dramatic changes then they started getting frustrated. Lol! Especially since they've spent $2-3k on clubs and I'm using an entire set of the new(ish) Tommy Armour 845 series clubs, all except my Odyssey Stroke Lab putter. Honestly the 845 stuff is really good and I hit it just as well as anything else when I got them for less than half the price of big brand. After a short diagnosis from the pro, it was determined he didn't need new grips at all, but just that he was using a golf glove that was to big which caused him to get blisters. Can we cover some things like proper fitting golf gloves, what causes tears in them or why they wear in certain places. (eg.. wrong grip causes more wear on thumb pad. etc... ) Also like when purchasing golf shoes, what to look for to get a good pair? What are sdvantages of golf shoes? etc...What items are needed in the bag as a minimum? What to look for in a bag?

Can we see a video on body rotation?! I have no problem getting my hips to rotate but keeping my shoulders in line with them on my back swing is tough. I have a Jon Rahm-ish style swing. Short and compact. Want to see if they’re are any drills on how to get a further and more in sync back swing!

Does this just apply to irons? How would you adjust for woods / driver?

What helped me is knowing that the perfect draw is always club path being half the number that your path is, for example 4 degrees positive club path would be 2 degrees open face

Can you explain what the club face should be doing throughout the swing because I feel like I’m trying to hold the face square to target line for to long (I don’t know if this is why I’m getting my arms from disconnecting)

Great video, like others I needed this desperately 😂 For the future, any thoughts on showing swings in slo-mo? Sometimes it can be hard to follow a break-down when watching a fast swing. Appreciate yall

Hey Grant, would you please help me by explaining to me on the downswing, do the arms and chest move together down to and through impact or do the arms drop independently on the downswing as the chest opens at impact? I am 72 and can only get my left arm to halfway in the backswing. Thanks.

Can you please make a video on flipping and scooping at impact. It has really been bringing down my game and causing high and right shots.

Could you do a video going over the best way to read the greens?
