    My man painting black on will work but hard to be consistant with even coat of paint and, time consuming waiting for paint to dry then wash off. If you get a 85 cent piece of black posterboard from walmart or where ever you shop and put on cutting surface black side up then lay your glass on it and hit start. The results have been much betterfor me. As far as time its 100 times faster because no prep painting, waiting to dry then after laser done wash off the paint......... I use sculpfun s9

    for the best results paint a black layer. burn an inverted and reveresed image into the black to reveal the white areas. clean off the soot then paint a layer of white over it to fill in the burned out image. when you flip the glass over the image will be nice and glossy when viewed from the other side and be protected by the glass. In this video I did the opposite with white first, burn out the black areas, and fill with black. It does work too but have to go slower burning out the image and it doesn't seem to be as sharp as doing the black layer first.

    I'm sure it might have a few scratches if you were burning really hard but since I'm going at a much faster speed than when trying to etch glass I'm pretty sure you could remove the paint if you didn't like the outcome.

  • @TheKennyHack

    @TheKennyHack

    3 жыл бұрын

    that can only be changed if using the Greyscale setting. If on any other dither mode its always 0% on a diode. It was showing like 15% i think but the box was grayed out, so not an active setting. I wish lightburn would allow you to set the minimum on all the dithers. would be a lot easier to get the light shades into the image.

    just let it run. I don't go over 85% power and don't cut much, so over heating isn't an issue so far. if you run at 100% power the time should be limited or you can kill the laser quicker.

    Hello Kenny, we like your videos very much😁. I also like to work with a laser engraver. What kind of colors did you use to paint the glass white and black? Are both water soluble, or just the black one. Until now I have always used a marker pen but came close to your results. Would like to do it the way you do🤔 . Would you tell me the secret? Greetings from Switzerland

    The image isn't engraved into the glass its basically getting painted on. I think using black as the first color works the best. Takes about 2 coats of black. You should be able to see through the painted layer when holding it up to the light on the first coat. The second coat is put on 90° to the first and you should pretty much not see any light coming through after the second. On my 15w I use the Grayscale setting at 318 dpi and ran at 90% on the max and around 25 on the min. Clean off the soot when done and backfill in the image with white paint. The image needs to be flipped since it viewed from the other side of the glass. Watch my Backlit photo frame video I just put out. Its done the exact same way. I just didn't backfill in with white. I used frosted glass paint and lit it up from behind with LEDs.

    If you're talking about the Han and Leia picture. The back was painted black. Then lasered with the negative to remove the white areas and then backfilled with white. Just think about what color your going to fill with. If its black you burn normal to remove the black areas. If its white you invert the image to remove the white areas. My problem is I usually forget to flip the image left to right so it appears normal when viewed from the front.

    You probably put the layer on too thick. Most spray paints have a paint thinner in them that will wet the lower layer back up. If it does too much it will crack the paint. I put it on really thin and immediately hit it with a blow dryer. Keep adding thin mist layers until its covered.

    Hei Kenny, why you not used northon method?

  • @TheKennyHack

    @TheKennyHack

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'm guessing you meant the Norton Method. That method is for white Tiles painted white and burned at a slow speed to fuse the paint into the tile. There are also methods for painting a layer of white then a layer of black and burning the inverted image to reveal the white under the black, but that's not the Norton method. That method can be done on glass too, but the image will be on the front surface of the glass. With this method the image is on the back of the glass, so it will have a natural glossy image and its better protected from damage than if it was on the front of the glass.

    I've had such problems with this..I noticed you used water not acetone..so Im guessing you're not actually removing the black? Only soot? And you painted black after..I heard white

  • @TheKennyHack

    @TheKennyHack

    6 ай бұрын

    yes, only removing soot. You can do black or white either way. I think b is best to do black first as base coat. Laser out the white areas with an inverted image. Then, fill back on with white paint. These are done on the back of tge glass and viewed from the front. Remember to flip your image left to right so it will look correct when viewed from the front.

    maybe if you're using a pricey Industrial sized machine. A $250 machine $20/hr is doing well. Some jobs I might get close to $40/hr but that's rare. Just depends on how many orders you have to fill. I mostly just do custom orders as a side hobby. If I had a pile of orders I'd need a bigger machine or be running several machines, but not really looking for that much business. Most CO2 users I see in the forums charge around $1/minute. If you're getting $3-5 either its a super fast huge laser or you're in a great market.

  • @TheKennyHack

    @TheKennyHack

    So paint a layer of white on the glass and then a thin layer of black. The black layer is only put on to help the laser burn better. After you burn the black parts of the image and clean the soot off spray paint the engraved area with black to fill in the color. When you flip the glass over it should look like a glossy b&w photo. I think it actually works better the opposite way. Paint a black layer and invert your burn to burn out the white areas and backfill with white paint.
