The Keb Trousers by Fjällräven [Review]

Visit Adventure Rig here: goo.gl/OzQc0M
The Keb Trousers by Fjällräven are the ultimate mountain adventure pant that I will be wearing for many years and adventures to come. Not only are the Keb Trousers ultra durable, they’re also comfortable and built with the adventurer in mind. Featuring Fjällräven’s G-1000® Eco, the Keb Trousers are built to withstand the elements with sustainability in mind. These are not your every day cargo pants.
I’ll admit that I’m the person who wears only Carhartts on the daily but when I first pulled these out of the box, I knew these were going to blow my Carhartts out of the water for many reasons. First of all, the Kebs define ultimate comfort and won’t restrict your movement no matter what you’re doing. I’ve rock climbed in these and hiked in them and I know that there’s not really an activity I couldn’t do while wearing the Kebs. The comfort comes mainly from the strategic placement of stretch material (specifically the G-1000 Eco, which we’ll touch on soon) of course mixed with durable material where you need it most.
At first, I was a bit intimidated by Fjällräven’s sizing but I ended up ordering my traditional US size and they fit perfectly! They’re not too tight, not too long, and wearing a belt isn’t mandatory. I’m 6’ tall and 200 pounds and I ordered the 33/34”. There is also a “long” version available in the Keb and that increases the length by 5cm, something I would definitely recommend checking out if you have extra long legs!
Fjällräven’s G-1000® Eco Fabric brings a lot of benefits to the Keb Trousers. First of all, G-1000® is extremely durable yet breathable, wind resistant, and made to be used with Fjällräven’s Greenland Wax for even more weather fighting capabilities. The Keb Trousers will continue to take applications of wax with the idea that not only are the Kebs customizable to your environment, they’ll also last a very, very long time. Even with the incredible durability of the G-1000®, these don’t feel overly stiff or uncomfortable, which is a nice change from what I’m used to.
The small details on the Keb Trousers add up to make a big impact in my mind. The pockets are all strategically placed, nice and big, and don’t limit your movement if you should actually use them for their intended purpose. I’m also a fan of the fact that Fjällräven didn’t waste time on pockets on the rear because they’d just get in the way anyways. I like the adjustable cuffs so I can get a precise fit for the boots or shoes I’m wearing at the time. They’re hidden nicely and not bulky. Complete with a built-in hook to keep your pants where they need to be when you get into the gnar.
I think the Keb Trousers are a bit warm if you’re going to be doing some hiking or climbing in high temperatures but the fact that there are two large vents on each leg makes up for some heat. Most recently, climbing a 14er, it got pretty warm on the descent below tree line but I was able to get adequate airflow moving through-cooling me down-by unzipping the vents on each leg. Having the vents is key and I would definitely be a little disappointed without them!
Overall, I think the Keb Trousers have really stepped up my outerwear game and are the perfect all around mountain pant to get me where I need to go, comfortably and well protected. For me personally, coming in at $225, this is more than I’d ever spend on a traditional pair of pants but I think it can be justified by not only the durability but the ability to treat them with a water-resistant wax. These are also made with high-quality materials and made well and I know they will last many many years. I am usually replacing my Carhartt’s once or twice a year and so if you do the math, it’s a pretty even playing field (and I may even come out on top with the Keb). If you’re looking for the ultimate mountain adventure pant look no further than the nicely fitting, comfortable and durable Keb Trouser by Fjällräven. If these (for some odd reason) don’t peak your fancy, be sure to check out the extensive line of trousers by Fjällräven.

    I’m from Missouri. I believe I stood right where your made this video. Me and my son drove out there one summer and hiked Mt Princeton. We found what was called The Shalet or something. Later found out it was an old radio look out tower or the likes. We slept there one night. Well, we tried to sleep. We didn’t acclimated. That was our first night at that altitude. Fun times. Looking hard at these trousers. Very well done on the review. Cheers!

    Thanks for the good review. Just got off Quandary Peak [Sept 22] where it was blowing 43mph at summit (wind meter reading) and 23F = windchill of 3F. Regular nylon hiking pants were not cutting that action. These look like a great step toward shoulder-season hikers.

    I do love these pants but still not sure they're worth the price point. Ive had mine for about 6 months and theyre already showing signs of wearing through in the crotch. In comparison, I've had a pair of MEC pants for 3+ years and they show no sign of wear. They arent as nice looking but less than half the price. The cotton portion of the blend concerns me.

    I bought this model when it first came out many years ago. They where very good then and I wore them to shreds. The second pair I bought did not live up to the great fit of the first pair. It's a small change in the fit but it's a unfortunate one. The fit is not as good any more and the pants feel a much more saggy. Fjallraven also changed the direction of the upper side zippers which at first I thought was not a big deal but with some use this proved to be a unwise design mistake. The pants are still of high quality. Unfortunately (and all to common) not as well made as the first generation.

    Hello Thestripper, why do you think the direction of the zipper is a mistake? does the ventilation not work well?

  • @Thestripper1

    @Thestripper1

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@michelleingel3721 Try zipping the zipper upwards and downwards. Which direction demands that you use two hands? You want ventilation when you are getting to hot and that is when you are on the move. If the zippers pull down to ventilate you can simply do in stride with one hand. When you have stopped and are beginning to cool of you can then close the zippers again and it's not a big deal if you have to use both hands. This makes a lot of sense in use but might not seem lika a big deal at frst. I hear the "new and improved" version has a two way zipper. I would be keen to hear the argument for having the zipper pull up to open as on the bummer versioni that I have.

    @thestripper 1. Thank you for unwittingly confirming that I received a 2018 model when I wanted a 2019. And 2. I find pulling it upwards simpler because you do it at the same time as lifting your leg going up.

  • @Thestripper1

    @Thestripper1

    @@michelleingel3721 I've tried both for extended periods of time now. The zip down to open version is in my opinion much better. I think they have also flipped the hooks on the front of the leg hem now. In my opinion the old way is much better. Will never come off unintended and is much easier and quicker to put on an off.

    I bought a pair, after less than 40 days mountain wear both bottom seams have holes in them. In my opinion tje bottom of the trousers are too heavy for the normal material, not worn crampons with them or done anything apart from normal Trekking. I am in my 50s and have never had a pair of trousers fail so quickly. Sent away 18th December still waiting for any reply from Fjall Raven a month later. So far poor quality for what they are and the price charged.
