No such thing as a bad student. Only a bad teacher. Teacher say to do this, and the student does do that. A martial artist who is highly skilled in martial arts and only uses it for among the weakest one ever, he has no honor, and is not considered a true martial artist. The martial artist must never use his skills on anyone weaker than himself. A true martial arts instructor would teach his students how to defend themselves and never be merciless. Martial arts should even be used to defend yourself and to defend the one who can't defend himself and if outnumbered and so on.

I'm a 14 year old martial artist and I just wanna say I wouldn't mind being taught this way. I mean it seems brutal but tbh look at how much these kids learned besides the extreme discipline.

The boys that were fighting in the beginning are good fighter's

Fun fact: master Li was the original Iron Monkey in the famous Iron Monkey movie with Donnie Yen. He played the Robin Hood character and was the PROTAGONIST. So fun to watch him play the bad guy!

You know, when comparing Master Li to John Kreese. Li is just as merciless, but the atmosphere in this remake feels not as severe. Kreese and his students' personalities felt campy, but nevertheless they knew a thing or two about inciting fear and no mercy just the same.

The thing about Master Li is that there’s no explanation as to why he’s merciless. In John Kreese’s case he’s a Vietnam veteran who’s angry because he wasn’t allowed to win. That’s why his mantra is no mercy.

The scene in the original comes off a bit corny. "Kreese and his students' personalities felt campy" Yes, they do which is why the remake version here is far more effective. And the actor playing Master Li is Yu Rong Guang who is an excellent actor and action star. He was the man who played Iron Monkey in the 90s martial arts classic Iron Monkey. To overlook him is a crime. He did spectacularly in this role.

This is an example of someone being biased against a remake so they go out of their way to look for something to dislike. Many martial arts schools in Asia are like this. Jackie Chan used to get beaten as child mercilessly when he was in his martial arts academy. It was basically child abuse. "In John Kreese’s case he’s a Vietnam veteran who’s angry because he wasn’t allowed to win. That’s why his mantra is no mercy." They made that up because Karate is not from America so they need to give him another motivation in order to show why he is the way he is. But in Asia many martial arts masters have that as their philosophy to push everyone to the extreme. There doesn't need to be given some old war story to justify that. Again, you are just looking for a reason to dislike the remake. The Chinese actor who played Master Li in the remake is an EXCELLENT action and action star. His name is Yu Rong Guang. To overlook his great performance here is shameful.

Mercy is for the weak! We do not train to be merciful! Here, on the street, in competition, a man confronts you, he is the enemy. An enemy deserves no mercy. What is the problem, Mr. Lawrence?

This scene is mixed up because the kid getting his ass kicked is the one who put Dre out of commission when really the kid winning the fight is the kid who hesitated to finish him and Dre off

Oh, okay...

With Tai Lung being a snow leopard, Lord Shen being a peacock, and Kai being a bully, I would hate to see what anthropomorphic animal Master Li would be in the world of Kung Fu Panda just by looking at the way he behaves as well as train and treats his own students.
