The Karate Kid is a 1984 American martial arts drama film written by Robert Mark Kamen and directed by John G. Avildsen. It is the first installment in the Karate Kid franchise, and stars Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Elisabeth Shue, and William Zabka.[3][4] The Karate Kid follows the story of Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), an Italian-American teenager from New Jersey who moves with his widowed mother to the Reseda neighborhood of Los Angeles. There, LaRusso encounters harassment from his new bullies, one of whom is Johnny Lawrence (Zabka), the ex-boyfriend of LaRusso's love interest, Ali Mills (Shue). LaRusso is taught karate by a handyman and war veteran named Mr. Miyagi (Morita) to help LaRusso defend himself and compete in a karate tournament against his bullies.
Kamen was approached by Columbia Pictures to compose a film similar to Avildsen's previous success Rocky (1976), after signing the director. Kamen drew inspiration from the real life events of an eight-year-old Tum Pai student's story in Hawaii when writing the film.[5] As a result, he maintained strong opinions regarding cast, and petitioned heavily for Morita's inclusion.[6] Preparations for the film began immediately after the final edit of the script was complete, and casting took place between April and June 1983. Principal photography began on October 31, 1983, in Los Angeles and was completed by December 16. The film was Macchio's second major film role following The Outsiders (1983).[7]
The Karate Kid was theatrically released in the United States on June 22, 1984. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics, many of whom praised the action sequences, writing, themes, performances, and music. The film was also a commercial success, grossing over $130 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing films of 1984 and Hollywood's biggest sleeper hit of the year. The film revitalized the acting career of Morita, who was previously known mostly for comedic roles, and it earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.[8] The film subsequently launched a media franchise and is credited for popularizing karate in the United States.

Ralph Macchio's best acting performance was in "CROSSROADS".
Yes! Bobby in the group of Cobra Kai was the "Good one" who told Johnny to " leave him alone man, He's had enough! "about Daniel getting his butt kicked.... he also didn't want to hurt Daniel in the tournament but did what Sensei told him to do. also Tommy the other one in the gang at the end who says "give him a body bag" is iconic and has one of the best laughs at the end of the film.....😂

Second best line in the movie "get him a body bag" with the music building at the end. First best has to be "sweep the leg, you have a problem with that" insane considering just how bad daniels leg really is... NO MERCY!!!
I'll never understand how Tommy wasn't disqualified but then we wouldn't have had the Big Finish. I remember seeing this in theaters with my friends, it was so unique at that time. Of course we already loved the late Pat Morita (Mr.Miyagi) from watching him on Happy Days 🙏 RIP. I still adore Ralph Macchio 🫶
Haha my dad feels the same way you do he hates the part one, part 2 or weekly releases they spoiled us with dropping the entire seasons on prime and netflix then they decided to go oldschool again with weekly episode's or parts throughout a year lol. Nice reaction yeah Miyagi is arguably the best in KK universe.

Mr Miyagis explanation of not being in the middle of the road is similar to Yoda saying "Do or do not , try or try not, there is no try" so yeah like you said basically either go in 100% or you don't go in 100% otherwise you're going to get hurt.

The first movie is very good, but my favorite Karate Kid would have to be Part 2. I’m not gonna spoil it but you basically got to learn more about Mr. Miyagi and see his home country
The amount of time we waited on Cobra Kai season 6 release date and we’re not supposed to get the big finale til sometime next year, probably before the release of the new Karate Kid movie. Looking forward to watching them though. Already seen Karate Kid I, II, III, The Next Karate Kid and the remake from 2010

They announced the July date for Cobra Kai like two months ago with the first trailer. Also that splitting the shit up into two parts is a streaming BS deal. They keep subs longer as you have to wait months for the other part. Those people are suckers though, I get all streaming shit free with as good quality as the streaming channels have. Also Cobra Kai has no business being as good as it is. It's WAY better then all the movies. Well part 3 I love the bad guy silver, but the movie is highest levels of trash, So is the one after it with Hillary swank as the karate kid lol.
