The K24 Honda S2000 Repair That Left Me Broke

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

ASM Motorsports are the unofficial Pro's when it comes to Honda S2000's and Gridlife. So when I showed Andy our clapped car build his very first question was "Why did you build it like this?" Needless to say, we've got a lot of work (and now, debt) to deal with but we should HOPEFULLY be ready for its first shakedown test.
I could seriously go for some subs & follow right about meow, so see the links below:

Had an old e36 compact. Really cool car, it drove so nicely, loved it. Just had it as my daily. It was good fun. But it was in the repair shop every other week. And it started to cost a lot of money and a lot of nerves. So at one point I decided to sell it. You gotta know old cars are cool and stylish, but they're old and things will break and need replacing. You gotta be ready for that. Just my two cents, maybe I can save you some money 😅

Yep. These are all real concerns and common issues with S2K’s when getting an alignments. The adjusters are prone to seizing and need to be cut out, which isnt quick or enjoyable job. K24’s have worse oiling than F series because its a transverse engine going longitudinally, so baffled oil pan is an obvious recommendation. SS brake lines are obvious and the other things are just lol (eps/abs). Tbh, he probably saved future Alex’s life here lol.

oh men... half the stuff should have been done by yourself. Cant hire everyone to do everything. I always unseize everything before i bring it for alignment you dont want them to charge you 6 hour for just working out seize nuts/bolts... you might say its a S2000 altho it closer to a civic than a 911 they are one of the easiest car to work on. you need to be more mechanicly incline and then you'll save some $$$ .

One thing that has always bothered me is the wording behind how a lot of things go. ONE EXAMPLE is saying that “this part is prone to failure”. Yes, every part is prone to failure. There are some scummy mechanics that when told to check out an issue, work on it right away without letting the customer know and then billing them way more for what you were expecting when you were only looking for an estimate.

Well, until I heard 500whp, I was calling BS on most of that list. However, with that much power, I would very much be concerned about that rear diff and possibly even the trans. (Not sure how much power an S2K trans is rated at) The alumiunm flywheel would be best served in an NA application. They're good for fast throttle response, but not good for high torque applications. Especially a boosted build. I would swap back to a steel lightweight flywheel. The other reinforcements are a good idea. Not sure about the spindles, unless we're talking about the rear. High output can sheer the center spline on rear wheel hubs. Maybe that was the concern? I'm not sure. The little stuff I would have just done myself, which it sounds like you opted to do. I'm not sure what's even being talked about with not being able to do an alignment. I guess its possible, I've just never seen it before. Stuff like the braided brake lines I would count as nice to haves. The bushings and tierods I would have inspected. Cracked is not the same as torn. There's no way I would have bought a full fire supression system this early in the game. Especially if its not required. I laughed when I heard intake brace. Ok, its a stock part, but required is an overstatement. Skunk2 doesn't even have bracing mount points for their intakes. Its only really needed if you want to yank the engine out by the intake. $70k for a race car is insane for where you're at financially. $20k is about all I would put into that car for now. No need to pull a dount media, lol. $60k into a $4k car. They're insane. Trusting a shop for your build is like trusting the bank with your budget. They'll take you to the cleaners if you let them. Nice car, clean build. Hope it stays in one piece. Cheers.
