'The jungle is neutral': British and Belizeans pushed to the limit | British Army

The 1st Battalion Scots Guards (1SG), together with a range of other British Army units and our allies from Belize, had to get comfortable being uncomfortable in one of the world’s most unforgiving environments on Exercise Mayan Storm.
Normally based in Yorkshire, the jungle warfare training that these soldiers undertook in the South American country during November and December must have seemed a world away from the norm.
However, the skills and drills that were being reinforced during the package will be invaluable and could make all the difference on operations.

my battalion was sent to belize when the guats were going to invade it was a shock for a 19 yr old from the midlands and finding myself in heat and humidity . still i got to see xmas in belize even got on telly when bbc came out to film a doc...the jungle is like nature it doesn't give a f..k about you or your feelings every thing in the jungle wants to bite sting or scratch you, and the slr was not the best weapon for jungle warfare. always said i would go back one day but to old now still the jungle was ok once you got used to it...lol...

I have nothing but respect for people that have completed this training. If you just lay down on the jungle floor for 1 hour you will probably end up with fire ants in your cloths and a centipede crawling around your balls. Now imagine what its like to actually try and function in that environment. I wouldnt like to go camping in the jungle, let alone fighting.
