The year 2020 will go down in history as a period of global pandemic crisis. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and isolation have become conditions mandated by governing authorities. The Old Testament references isolating those who are afflicted with illness for a defined period, but here in 2020, everyone is finding themselves strongly encouraged to stay home and refrain from the activities of normal life. As a result, our economy is experiencing instability, and many are dealing with job loss. God is orchestrating a time for all of us to slow down, to re-discover what is truly most important, and to reconnect-with God first and then with spouses, children, and family members. “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) Life with Gwen and Joe takes time this week to bring encouragement in the midst of a world filled with chaos, confusion, and emotion. As always, Gwen and Joe seek out the positive aspect in today’s circumstances, reminding us that there is a time for everything, as noted in Ecclesiastes, and now is a time for slowing down, a time to draw your household near, a time to serve others in need, and a time for peace. If you are feeling anxious, go to God in prayer and look for His comfort-how rewarding it will be to come to the end of this time of distancing and isolation and find that you are closer to God than you have ever been! Per Gwen’s charge in this episode, make this a time that your children will remember positively, spending time together, getting out of yourselves to encourage others, and showing love to one another! If we will be patient and rely on God for everything, we will get through this unique situation together and find ourselves stronger in our faith-and that will help us all rebound along with the economy when God allows us to return to normal.
