THE JOHN MUIR WAY | Long Walk Home Series Ep 4 | She's got company for this one 🤙

The next section of the Long Walk home is here 🎉🎉 THE JOHN MUIR WAY.
.
For this trail I had some company in the form of Juls, also known as @over_stepping on Instagram. She's currently hiking and staying at every MBA bothy it the UK, and is a freaking ledgend.
.
This trail was beautiful but brutal. And not brutal for the challenges many would thing, ie weather, elevation gain etc, but for the continuous flat tarmack we walked on for those 137 miles. It was a challenge!

You're very lucky to have got through the night at Yellowcraigs without being hassled by the council nature rangers. They get pretty serious if you camp in the dunes there. They haven't a legal leg to stand on but lots of the less respectful camping folk have been out there burning holes in the delicate dunes.

I’m by no means a expert but this was always something I thought about with super lite tents and for that a fair few super lite camping items. To make it super lite what are you loosing?. I get the higher price purely because you are buying more expensive materials and / or they need different techniques to put them together because they are so much lighter. I get items like titanium over stainless or even aluminium but when I see so many super lighters who say how much they’re feet hurt or the tent leaks or the sleeping bag is cold or waterproof clothes are only shower proof I can’t help but feel there must be a mix needed of fit for purpose items and super lite?. Again I’m not saying anything like I think I’m right in this as I have 0 knowledge but it’s more a question I ask myself why not use proper walking boots with compression and support and will be breathable but also waterproof and a tent that is not made of tissue paper as most of them look like they are 😅. When people say yes but heavy equipment is not good for long walks I’m confused by this as well yes it’s harder work but how much would a fit for purpose set up be more than a super lite and how much more would say a polar explorer or a military personnel on patrol carry? It could be a fair compromise if it protects you and helps keep your body from breaking?. Again though this is me purely asking the question I don’t want someone seeing my comment and thinking I’m saying bad things about becc’a Iv loved her content and have followed her since she came on east Anglian bushcraft’s channel it’s purely I don’t get it. 👍🏻 anyway keep up the slog and keep on keeping on with it 👌🏻💪🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊

Couldn’t agree more on the Nemo- I have one, bought for the TeAraroa, great for that in sheltered spaces. Scottish summer - just doesn’t cut the mustard, use the foot print as well but it’s just not stable in anymore than a breeze. ‘Lightweight is great until it’s not’ 😅

It’s called a plume on the Galea (helmet) back to front is a soldier, side to side is a commander. Hope your feet are ready for the next march me little muddy one. Nice to have a Jules with you for a bit, the miles go by faster. Looking well coordinated in your new gear. Get a tarp under that tent, cheap fix, great to watch the long awaited part 2 (p.s. I think Pete may have pee’d in that water🤣)😁😁😁😁👍🏽♥️⛺️🥾🥾

Hi muddy boots ! I suffered with plantar fasciitis for many years and was treated by an osteopath training school in Maidstone . Took a few weeks but they have completely cured me . Admittedly I don’t walk as many miles as you though but do feel your pain . Good luck with your adventures , but need to look after those precious feet with some treatment 😢

So good to see another video from you, and the scenery on that trail was amazing. I know your tent is not up to par but haw is that pack working out for you? If I remember right it is fairly new and only used a couple of time to try it out. Haven't heard you say anything bad about it so I'm guessing it is good. Love your videos, you have such a bubbly personality even though your in pain. You are doing great and I can't wait for the next video. Take care and stay safe.

Well done on compleating The John Muir Way 👍 Great video nice to see your friend on it 🙂 Sorry to see your foot trouble continues agree provention is better tha cure👍⭐ My pack is just a mass of carrier bags black bin bags & sponges it looks like the inside of a black bin on collection day 🙃 But it works‼ The tent yes well I use single skin Argos cheapo tent its wind proof with crossed poles & no skirt Suprisingly water proof has an effective ground sheet £35 !! Waterproofs for walking are West German Army gummy ones heavy/ sweaty/ bulky☹ But ideal for the British climate (or indeed the German one )🙂 Boots mian are so solid I have little idea what I'm walking over They do girl size work boots you know .😑(just saying)!! looking foeward to the next one 🤩😍🤗😗

The Antonine Wall was only used by the Romans for 20 years (AD141-161). I've been exploring as much as I can of the Antonine Wall. The Falkirk Wheel is stunning. I actually mananged to take a trip on it. It's just Arthur's Seat. Not King Arthur's Seat.

"The bathtub of my tent..." 😆. This is easily fixed: you NEED a goretex bivi bag! This will keep you and your sleeping bag dry, but not the groundsheet or the thermarest. 17:18

"I'm a broken woman mate, I'm a broken woman. There's no f*ck%n benches for miles..."😂 The solution to this would be shock absorbing insoles (silicone). They make hard ground a bit more tolerable. 14:22
