I was desperate and in a very bad state when I first heard about the Jesus prayer, near 2 years ago. I had just begun to pray regularly and was wracked by remorse, in anguish over my sins and failures. One day I was awake in the early morning, maybe 3 to 4 AM, and again suffering emotionally from the consequences of my sins; so I prayed the Jesus prayer fervently, intensely, for what must have been 5 minutes straight. When I opened my eyes Jesus's face appeared right in front of me, filling my whole vision. He look at me for a moment with a measuring gaze. Then He smiled kindly. I believe He wanted to encourage me. His appearance gave me the strength and faith to keep going. The Jesus prayer saved my life, and it may have saved my soul Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. 🙏

@@orthodoxinquirer1239 Dear brother, even if at the moment you don't have the Holy Orthodox Baptism or you don't have a church where you can go and pray, you can still pray at any time and in any place. Prayer is not conditioned by place and time, and it helps us connect with God, gives us the great honor to thank God and to ask for His mercy. You can also make the Holy Cross sign over your body. When making the Holy Cross use your right hand, joining its fingers as follows: the thumb, forefinger and middle finger are joined at one point, while the ring and the little finger are held in the palm. The three fingers thus put together are placed on the forehead - to sanctify the mind - then go down to the navel - to sanctify the senses - from there the hand goes to the right shoulder, and then it goes horizontally to the left shoulder - to sanctify the power of the body. While the sign of the Holy Cross is made, we say: "in the name of the Father" (when the hand is on the forehead), "and of the Son" (when the hand goes down to the navel), "and of the Holy Spirit" (when the hand goes from one shoulder to the other), "Amen" (when we withdraw our hand from the left shoulder). The three fingers together symbolize the unity of the Holy and inseparable Trinity. The other two fingers, close together and both in the palm of the hand imagine the two natures, human and divine, united in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. You can write us your first name so we can ask God to help you in our prayers. But it is most important that you pray yorself, at first with simple prayers towards Lord Christ. Try always to be honest and kind towards people. Pray each day and God will certainly help you. God bless!

The Jesus prayer means a lot to me, because at night I am regularly plagued with lots of thoughts and temptations right before I sleep. It is very hard to fall asleep when you begin to stress about thoughts of the day. Also, I find, at least for me, that this is a time when my mind wishes to recount the things of the day, and perhaps even fantasize about how I wish things would and could have gone. All of this is foolishness and to be avoided, and nothing is better than the Jesus prayer and the Psalms to cast such things away. I forget which saint said it, but it has proven true again and again, if you will busy yourself with the Jesus prayer, you will not be lost

I could never "pray without ceasing" until I discovered the Jesus Prayer. Now, I pray the Jesus Prayer when I am walking or driving or even just sitting in my kitchen at home. I watched another of your videos in which you said to pray the Jesus Prayer on my fingers. I do this regularly now and I have discovered that this prayer helps me to shut out everything that is on my mind and focus completely on Jesus in a way that nothing else does. I usually repeat the Jesus Prayer 10 times, one for each finger, and conclude with "Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end". Instead of praying quickly and being distracted all the time, praying the Jeaus Prayer brings me very close to God and I can pray for any length of time. I feel that this prayer is the key to a close relationship with our Heavenly Father, through His Son in the power of His Spirit. Thank you Father Spyridon for your wisdom and good advice. God bless you and your work.

I am a Catholic but I feel the Catholic church is corrupted and encourages it's people to rely and to worship the church instead of God. I have not attended any form of worship now for a very long time. I feel the truth in this father's sermons, I struggle to pray as my thoughts and prayers become distracted with conversations and arguments past present and future and it normally brings my prayer to a halt. It's like my own mind ambushes me. I'm going to look up the Jesus prayer and start saying it and see if God responds to me in a way I can discern is empowering and I message of direction to me. It's been so long since I've felt his direct guidance in my life. In these times I've committed willfully and negligently so much sin that it's hard for me not to feel that there is anyway back but, I know in my heart Jesus will stand by me in my journey back into God's grace. If I can just reject everything I know is sin! It's terrifying, the thought of causing so much rejection by those who say they care about me when I take such a radical life shift. I know on a human level I will have to walk alone once more to walk on a spiritual level again with God. Pray for me and for my conviction in the holy spirit.

Grant unto me, O Lord, that with spiritual tranquility I may face all that this new day is to bring. Grant unto me to dedicate myself completely to Thy Holy Will. For every hour of this day, instruct and support me in all things. Whatsoever tidings I may receive during the day, do Thou teach me to accept tranquilly, in the firm conviction that all eventualities fulfill Thy Holy Will. Govern Thou my thoughts and feelings in all I do and say. When things unforeseen occur , let me not forget that all cometh down from Thee. Teach me to behave sincerely and rationally toward every member of my family, that I may bring confusion and sorrow to none. This is the perfect prayer for these angst ridden times- thank you Fr. Spyridon for your encouragement and teaching. I’m a contemplative nun and this prayer I pray throughout the day, sometimes in moments of waiting, often for much longer. It is a balm of love and a blessing of our Lord’s mercy that I believe spreads like oil across our troubled waters and hearts. May the Lord’s peace be with you.

Yes, I agree 100%. St. Paul is in no way exaggerating. St. Gregory is in no way exaggerating. ALL THE TIME seems impossible, but it is the truth, it is arduous, but it requires no physical energy. Once, I wrote a computer script to beep every 5 minutes, so I would not miss any moments of prayer for an entire day. I was already at a point where not missing a moment for an entire hour was easy. The 1st 2 days, trying for 15 hours not to miss a single moment, I failed for a few moments. But on the 3rd day, I did indeed succeed at 15 hours of continuous uninterrupted prayer, without even one moment escaping my attention. And then I sat to meditate in silence. And something happened. Not the ultimate, I would not say that, but a giant step in that direction. I'd say that even one whole day, in complete dedication to remaining present in dedication to God, without lapsing for a single second, has the potential to open anyone's eyes to things unseen by the world. I don't think modern Christians fully appreciate how diligent those in the past were in their discipline+practices, how much they felt the sufferings of this world, how arduously they strived in seeking deliverance from it. They were not living in the days where they sat in an air-conditioned office, purchased a Big Mac, fries, and a soda driving home from work, and then relaxing in a sofa in front of a TV 😁 no. Really, it won't work like that. I'd guess that even the effort I describe here is trivial compared to the ancients.

Please pray for me! The last months I have been suffering from bad thoughts (unwanted), but thanks God since 1 month or so I feel much better, also since I started to use the Jesus prayer I feel much more peaceful. But in these days the enemy attacks me when I use it with unwanted thoughts again, I know this is not from God but you know it makes me feel bad. Please pray for me to feel better, I know that God's plan for us is the best.

The Lord is above all things, His light shines even in the midst of the deepest darkness, he was, is and will be with you as he himself said "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33. I will pray for you, may the good and holy Lord be with you.
