I think Ahmed Best’s performance in this episode was what we needed. It didn’t have to be a major character. Literally, anyone could have saved Grogu. I am glad that Ahmed Best came back and gave an awesome performance!

I remember walking out of the cinema, my wife was waiting having watched The Matrix on a different screen, asked me what Phantom Menace was like? I remember replying, it’s like an introduction to star wars for a new generation. I think a lot of people forget, Star Wars is a kids toys franchise, it was never intended to be for adults, but we still love it.

So glad Ahmed Best is getting the love he always deserved! Loved Ahmed as Jar Jar when I was a child, and absolutely loved seeing him in live-action! Glad it was a more original character that saves Grogu, and not some legend character.

Correction - Kellerin didn’t have two lightsabers until Grogu’s elevator appeared with the dead jedi on the ground of it. Kellerin picked up that dead jedi’s lightsaber there when he grabbed Grogu.

Off topic, but didn't Exar Kun use form 6. Really hoping he gets made canon. One of the more interesting ancient Sith lords.

I think his own lightsaber is just the green one. He picked up the blue saber from the jedi that died in the elevator.

I love how realistic they portrayed characters. Hate, Stress, and Paranoia ages you badly.

I never "hated" JarJar...I just thought he was goofy. I am super stoked to see the story of Jedi Master Kelleran and his adventures with Grogu!

Kelleran Beq's an absolute beast in that same scene with the dual sabers, and I'm still not over that scene since then. I NEVER HATED HIM OR JAR JAR, they're my favorites since day one, and it is fucked up that the fans nearly drove him to suicide, but he survived thanks to real life martial arts training he partook in.

I had never heard of this jedi master before until they showed him saving Grogu. The dude was crazy, I would really like to see more about him.

I was happy when I saw who save Grogu. Then I realized how great it was that an unexpected Jedi Master rescued the child. If Star Wars is going to present itself as a complete universe then we need to see a larger variety of characters.

As someone who was a kid when The Phantom Menace released, I really hope Ahmed Best gets all the love and support he’s ALWAYS deserved.

It was so wizard bro! I just hope George realizes how much the prequels are loved by people close to our age (90s kid) and I'm glad Ahmed got to play a Jedi. I hope we see Jar Jar again one day in the future.

Man, I wish they realized sooner that motion capture actors can portray another character in live action. First Andy Serkis and now Ahmed Best, so happy they got a second chance to really leave their mark in Star Wars galaxy. Now can we do that for Sam Witwer? He has more than earned it.

I was very happy to see him portray the Jedi master. He got so much hate in the prequels, critics were so unfair to him. This is a net positive far as I’m concerned. Love to see more.

Ever since Lucasfilm want to create their own "Legends of the Hidden Temple", they need a placeholder Jedi, and that's where Ahmed Best comes in, to give him something to make him happy after all the Jar Jar treatment. And the Mandalorian episode made his character show he's more than just a random OC Jedi from the game show.

Ahmed Best said in an interview (can't remember where) that Kelleran is/was essentially the Dean of the jedi temple, so i guess you could say he's high ranking, or at least highly respected

If you told me 10 years ago, that the person who played Jar Jar Binks, would save a baby Yoda from imminent death and EVERYONE would not only be okay with this, but LOVE it, I'd have laughed in your face. The Star Wars fandom has only ever agreed on two things: _The Empire Strikes Back_ is the best Star Wars movie, and John Williams is goated. So for this to happen just warms my heart. Makes me think there's slight hope for the fandom yet.

huh lol, thats definitely a not a rare opinion from older folk who grew up with only the OT cuz of nostalgia but the past several years i rarely hear people say ESB is the best star wars movie. ROTS in basically every poll ive seen for years, discussion thread etc all say ROTS. when you got nostalgia from both trilogies, seems like ROTS takes the cake much more commonly. definitely moreso a your opinion type thing.

Ahmed Best, wow what an amazing actor! His whole charisma and voice is so unique that it's a shame that he hasn't got the chance earlier to show his acting skills. Disney, give him a lead role !!! Hopefully there's more to come as jedi in the Star Wars universe.

I think because of Grogu's young age he'd be trained by Yoda with the other younglings at this point. He's in his twenties during order 66, but for Yoda species he's still an infant/ toddler. Ashoka was often overseen by Plo Koon before she was apprenticed to Anakin, so this could be a similar situation. I'm glad Ahmed Best is back and that people who grew up with the prequels are showing kindness. He's a great actor and has a home here in the Star Wars galaxy.

I thought he just picked up that fallen Jedi’s light saber. If he’s so good at fighting with two blades, why doesn’t he carry two like Asoka?

Two blades were a last resort. Fighting with one light saber is normal when he is dueling but fighting a squad of 501st clone troopers required two sabers.

@@surfntrucks Right, but SWT said he was fighting in this style as if that’s his jam. I was questioning that. If it was, in fact a “last resort” option, you could say he was lucky that one of his fellow Jedi bought the farm at a spot where he’d be able to pick it up.

I hope that Ahmed knows that Jarjar was for us kids watching. I loved and still love Jarjar. George Lucas was always always thinking of the kids when filming. So of course critics of the time didn’t like it but it mattered to us. I’m glad he got a proper role like he deserved. A bad-A Jedi master duel wielding it up slaying clones.

Hell yeah glad Grogu is finally getting his rescue story 🎉

That was such a classic Filoni/Favreau move to not use an already established canon character that we all *_know_* saved Grogu, but to pull from the legends universe, bring them into canon and set them up for a totally new story arc.

One thing about Kelleran - if you notice, he actually picks up one of the lightsabers from the floor of the elevator. When Grogu went into the elevator, one jedi was shot dead as the door closed. Makes it so horrible for Grogu, escaping in an elevator with a corpse, going who knows where, and who knows if he'll see an enemy or an ally on the other side. When the door opens, Kelleran picked up the lightsaber of the fallen jedi. So it's likely Kelleran didn't default to dual-wielding; his primary style likely used one single blade. But the fact he could so easily shift into two blades is a testiment of his skill.

My sister noticed something wild about Grogu's rescue. He and Kelleran Beq escaped on a royal Naboo ship the only person on Coruscant with a ship like that would be Padme! That means Padme, when she saw the Jedi temple burning she immediately put into motion a plan to save the jedi probably by contacting them secretly and telling them that if they could get to a Naboo ship they could get to safety and because she had diplomatic immunity they could get away. She had put in place a plan that insured the safety and future for her kids. So when she went to Mustafar she wasn't surprised there was a jedi with her, she was surprised it was Obi-wan.

How old would Kelleran be in the mando timeline if he is still alive? Why did Luke not recruit him for his jedi school?

I was so happy to see Ahmed, I immediately recognised Kelleran Beq from that game show. Cheering in my head the whole time. A well deserved scene for Mr. Best.

So happy he got to return as a Jedi Master. Hopefully Jar Jar will be his secret contact on Naboo. This will go full circle and I for one would love it!

He did say the Naboo guard were his "friends". He couldve said that the same way we talk about other adults we trust to children or it could be Bek has a connection to Naboo

I think there’s definitely more to the story. That was an organized, planned escape. It’s possible Padme or Bail Organa supplied the ship/guards and they may be flying to meet up with Quinlan Vos or someone.

How would Padme know what is happening? All she can see is a fire and she found what happened in the morning when Anakin told her. Bail upon finding out didn’t even tell Padme his ally. Instead instantly leaving to go look to see if Yoda and other senior members survived. In the novelisation of ROTS which even Disney said is canon says that the 501st blocked the comms to the temple before the attack. So the Jedi couldn’t have reached out to ask for help or Padme / Jar Jar or Bail reach them via comms. Which is why Bail went there to investigate himself.

She didn’t have to know exactly what was going on but she could’ve sent her men to go help in any way they can. I single her out because the ship looked like her ship from the movies and they also looked like Naboo guards

Edit - also her men wouldn’t have got near the temple as the 501st would have stopped them as they did with Bail. Also her men were on the platform waiting for Beq. They even asked where the others. So they expected him to have more. That is not really sending help if they are just stood waiting for Beq to arrive.

It doesn’t seem like coincidence that Kelleren Beq knew to wait for Grogu at the top of that elevator and take him to that exact landing pad where a ship was waiting protecting by what look like Naboo Royal Guards. My only point is that there seems to be more to the story than what we got in that one scene.

@@colinmcv2715 So his job a teacher in the temple and was a senior teacher then it is clear that he would want to protect and evacuate younglings. And since hardly anyone knew about Grogu and I can imagine certain instructions were left for him to get him away from the temple. That is not the issue. The issue is the Naboo involved and him knowing exactly where to go. As it contradicts established canon. Now if they had him escape the Tempe and head to the lower levels to Coruscant to steal a ship and then leave the planet then that is fine. Also his “planned” escape is purely down to chance. If those first set of Clone Troopers didn’t land there by the elevator to try and stop him then he wouldn’t have had a route away from the temple. He would have been cut off by the troops coming around the corner which even he knew he could not keep at bay as he chooses that time to escape. But without the speeder there is no escape.

Hear me out: They went to Quin Lin Vos (probably misspelled, sorry) as we know that Vos helped some Jedi after Order 66 (proof seen in the Kenobi Show). My guess is that Vos "wiped" Grogus memory. Would be cool to see him again.

I was so excited when I saw the lift doors open and Kelleran Beq (Ahmed Best) appeared. Awesome scene and hope to see more of the flashbacks with he and Grogu.

@theory I think he originally not using 2 sabers (correct me if i am wrong). If we check the sequence, when the elevator opens, Beck go down and pick up the blue saber from the elevator floor. As he noticed Clone troops coming in to the area, he had no choice but to use his and that saber right away as he is alone with grogu. Imo he main saber is the green one.

Finding an awesome way like this to give Ahmed Best a cool AF character to play is just the best possible outcome. I loved the scene, its storyline implications, the way it was shot, and everything about it really - but loved it even more when I realised who the actor was!!!

I always thought Jar Jar’s character was maybe a bit too silly, but when my son was old enough to watch the prequels and always giggled at Jar Jar to now being a teenager I find him snd myself still doing Jar Jar imitations with the voice. So credit to Ahmed for being so memorable with the character that we still reference him 25 years later. I was super pumped when I realized this was him. I kinda thought Theory would have been more excited!!

I know it may sound controversial to some but the introduction of Kelleran Beq in the last episode of Mando has been the best thing of the series thus far.

The lightsaber knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't, by subtracting where it is, from where it isn't, or where it isn't, from where it is, whichever is greater, it obtains a difference, or deviation.

Bek was getting bodies that last episode. I like that he was just dude with two lightsabers. No flashy stuff, just got down to business and murked like 10+ clone troopers sleep walking lol

Totally okay with this! It was a great surprise and not another callback! (Not that I don’t like the callbacks) Great decision by the writers 😎

One minor thing, despite being proficient at wielding two lightsabers, he only seemed to have one when he found Gorgu. The second lightsaber (the blue one) he picked up from the dead Jedi in the elevator. I'm curious about why he only normally wielded one if he was so skilled at using two. Though I suppose Anakin was the same way since we see him using two lightsabers expertly in his fight with Barriss in season 5 of Clone Wars.

Grogu might have been too young to have a dedicated master, he is in stroller for God's sake!

I think a lot of people are forgetting that in the very first episode of the Mandalorian, Grogu is being protected by a rather large band of Nikto. Not the Empire. Not Moff Gideon. Common gangsters. And according to Quin, they've been holding him there for a long while. Long enough that Quin got sick of all the bounty hunters swarming his cozy planet. Kelleran could still be alive, having entrusted Grogu to a group of non--force sensitives thinking they could hide him better, perhaps while he run distraction and diverts the Empire's attention towards himself, making them think he still has the youngling.

I was so excited to see Ahmed Best be able to give another great performance!

What if Grogu had the (only way I can think k to phrase it) Meetra Surik effect. Almost like being a wound in the force because of what happened at the Temple.

So happy for him!!!! Ahmad deserved this! Now I'm scared for Beq!!

Had no idea he had done some youtube jedi gameshow, but I was watching with my cousin and the second the door opened I go "HOLY SHIT IS THAT JAR JAR!?" and me and my cousin kinda looked at eachother and started cheering. It was glorious.

I love that after what Ahmed Best was put through, he could possibly end up being one of the most important Jedi in the entire Star Wars story.

What do you personally think of the theory, that Ventress maybe is the connection to the fact, that Grogu found himself at the end in the hands of bounty hunters where we saw him first in Mando Season 1? Would love to see her in the show too...

I wish it had actually been Jar Jar saving him. I can just see the door opening and hearing "Meesa thinking that yousa needing to be rescued" and then watch Jar Jar mess up and destroy all the clones on accident, lol.

Wow I'm the 2nd like! Never been this early before! I just gotta say I love your videos and I'm so excited to see Ahmed Best getting the love he deserves! I always enjoyed Jar Jar but Kelleran Bec was absolutely amazing to see! Especially the Jarkai form was so awesome!

I'd also like to believe that mace windu was his teacher due to the gold trimming his cloak since mace is the one Jedi who used the flashy gold look

How long is Grogu’s species typically a youngling? I would think the Grogu would have multiple master’s which makes me wonder if it would’ve been better to make an exception and have Yoda train him.

Yoda said in Empire to Luke “for 800 years have i trained Jedi” Grogus already 55 (ish) so i assume he needs to be master status in 45 for the Yoda line to make sense. Which then means Grogu needs a pretty substantial evolution in the next few years to get out of this cute, baby youngling phase…

Hey Theory! Do you remember how the visual design for Quinlan Voss in The Clone Wars was inspired by that random background extra on Tatooine in The Phantom Menace? Later, it was added to the canon that this same extra was indeed Quinlan Voss and he was on an undercover mission in Mos Espa, hence why he couldn't blow cover to help Qui Gon. Well now that Ahmed Best has appeared in live action as Keleran Beq, do you think they will have to add a similar backstory to Best's cameo in the sports bar in Attack of the Clones?

Ahmed is a beast! I hope there is alot more we see from him. Also I just realized the very good job they've done so far aging Grogu. Didnt realize that till you had those two shots back to back.

On a side note, the detail on his robe looks awesome

I’m very happy it was Kelleran Beq. Seeing Ahmed Best get his “glow up” or redemption episode was awesome. And he looked great! Sometimes Star Wars doesn’t feel as big as it should when we see some of the same characters again and again because we know them and love them. This was an excellent decision for many reasons.

*Imagine the "darkness" that made Grogu lose his memory was Kelleren Beq BECOMING Moff Gideon.... For whatever reason(s).*

This was was so unexpected and fresh, I really liked that it was something almost no one saw coming. Redemption for Ahmed Best! Dude is a legend. Glad he was able to have this moment. In Filoni and Favreau I trust!

Honestly. From the backstory given of Kelleran being on a game show, it would make sense that a bunch of Jedi are like "Get the youngling to Kelleran" being that Kelleran would have more experience with Younglings, maybe Kelleran just had happened to be the most qualified Jedi for the job that wasn't already killed. Very intrigued to see his role in the galaxy, I really think they just threw Grogu with a random jedi just to show like "I don't care who shows up, get this kid out of here".

I like that we're giving Ahmed Best some justice - I'm happy to see him get a time to really truly shine.

He doesn't always use two lightsabers, he picked the blue bladed one off the ground from one of the dead Jedi. He used them both in that scene but only the green one was his particular lightsaber. I heard he was a teacher of younglings primarily.

My mom worked for lucasfilm when they hired Ahmed for that game show and they had to fight Kathleen Kennedy to hire him, so it’s great to see that he’s still working with them!
