VERY useful, thank you. And because I notice multiple Q's about handling a tender on an 895, I thought I'd suggest visiting The Rudder youtube channel, done by another 895 couple in Oz. They had a tender rack custom built to mount above their engines, including outboard mount. Very functional, non-obtrusive. Bob & Nicky's video shows another approach, too.

Love Cobbs Quay and thank you for that offer - we will shout if down your way again 😍 I have to say the van has been great fun too with France then Croatia last year and more this year. Very interesting video. Many thanks for posting. A few thoughts you will hopefully find helpful and constructive. 1. Very detailed, and informative illustration of your pre sailing checks and routine. However some important ones were not shown. ( Although I am sure you did them!). Such as removal of shore power cable and checking bilges and bilge pump. Do you use a check list to ensure nothing is forgotten or omitted? 2. Great shots of you leaving the berth. Perhaps the most interesting viewing is the docking and undocking process. ( when it goes right and wrong). It was a pity it go view your return to berth and how you use the engines, thruster and wheel versus tide and wind etc. Just a thought. Great to learn from others. 3. Very interesting to see, and witness your special speed trials and fuel burn figures. I think you kept the engine trim and full down trim ( or almost full down). It would be very interesting to see, if you tweaked the engine trim up a bit, at speed when planning, if speed and or fuel efficiency improved. Also if the zipwakes then became more active to compensate bow lift. Just a few thoughts and really look forward to seeing more of your videos. You are doing a great promotion job on Merry Fisher 825 Offshores! BHG Marine should be pleased. I must admit I am very tempted to buy one too! Hi John, Many thanks for your detailed feedback, much appreciated :) 1. Yes all done and the bilges are automatic when they detect water albeit we cross check from the manual switches at the helm. 2. We did a bit of low speed manoeuvring at the end of Ep.7 but do plan to do more - might get a drone for that :) 3. Yes agreed re the trim. We have done some tweaks with that, without any significant changes to kts or lph, but I'll keep testing that and publish it if there are notable changes. Noted re the Zipwakes and trim relationship - I'll have a look at that at the weekend when we're out :) 4. Go and see Daniel Yeates at BHG - he'll definitely sell you one!!! 5. I'll not rule out any future trips - the more the merrier!! :) Thanks again John

Love your work.....When the UK summer arrives, I'd be interested in your dingy/tender set up, and the amount of faffing around thats involved. Hi Jubes, Many thanks for your feedback and yes we will be doing a film for the 3D Superlight Round in the warmer weather and the Torqeedo set up with it. A lot of our coastal travels are into bays for anchoring so a useful addition to get the BBQ to the beach etc!! Very light and easy to store as you can see. We remember that 'wait' for delivery day very well - exciting times for you!!! :)

Incidentally Jubes - further to my last reply - you'll see just above the battery switches we asked Daniel at BHG, our dealer, to install a 12v socket - that was to make inflation of the 3D easier, after our experience with the 795, where the 12v socket was on the helm only so a long stretch for cabling. Just a thought in case you wanted to add one before delivery if you had an inflatable in mind :))

Wow just loved our New Zealand trip - had 6 weeks out in your beautiful land in the 90’s. Stayed with friends on their farm in Tokorao then spent 3 weeks touring North and South islands doing all the favourite Adrenalin stuff and the Milford Track. Fabulousssss place you’re in 😍

Thank you so much for your informative video. Did you do an analysis of diesel inboard powered boats versus petrol outboards? I have to admit I was quite shocked how much fuel that 400hp total used. Thanks very much Phil 😁 not done that comparison and yes if you wind them right up they like fuel! We were out today and our 4000 rpm usual planing speed was a consistent 60 - 62 lph- the lower being with the tide. But you never charge around like that all the time. Did 6 hours today and used 68litres so like a good day out in the car ...... but much better! 😁😁☀️☀️

Great video and fantastically informative Q&A. We have just bought almost the same boat for use out of Brixham; 895, Offshore version, twin Yamahas. The previous owner added small solar panels and inverter. Would be interested in your thoughts about electricity usage. Obviously, you would want to avail yourself of shore power in marinas, but what about out and about, David

Many thanks indeed David 😁 The most we have done was the 100 mile trip (on the other film on the channel) which was two nights out and the engines running during the day as we cruised the coast so recharging from them. We never had any battery issues during those times but the solar option and/or inverter would be a useful addition. There would be room I think for the panels on the roof or on an arch perhaps over the engines like yachts do at the back. They could keep the house batteries topped up if no engines were running but I don’t know what the power drain would be, or how quick, if you were away, anchored up, with no engines running. It would of course be possible to work that out with some amp/volt/KWh equations albeit I guess with LED lights and water pumps and some helm station electronics the usage may not be that high at all! I’d start at this mathematical total and then go from there depending how long you’re planning on being out, without engines running. 😁

As owners of both, I would be interested in your reflections on the main benefits of your 895 versus the 795 - specifically for day trips rather than overnighting. Space in the wheelhouse and cockpit (for 4 but also with guests). Usability of the heads. And also the different canopy arrangements - especially for shade. As an overnighting proposition, the benefits are obvious but not as sure otherwise. Enjoying the channel.

Many thanks Eddie and the 895 is a big step up in terms of size. The measurements don’t really convey that but I think it’s the way they have raised the cockpit area and cabin so it’s all on the same level as you walk through and it therefore sits a lot higher than the 795. That means loads more storage! If you get the chance to walk around both you’ll see what we mean in terms of the step up. More space in the cockpit seating area and the sun deck conversion for the cockpit is very spacious for more than two. The Cat B with strengthened hull on the Offshore gives more scope and resilience in choppier seas and the twin Yams push the 895 along really well despite it being more than twice the weight of the 795. You can stand in the heads area of the 895 but, not really in the 795. Hot water is great on the 895, twin burners in the galley better, the bow seat is fabulous. The guard rails on the 895 are higher and the walkway from stern to bow is great. Side door exit is a favourite of ours too. Generally a bit more in all areas for the extra money of course! The 795 was a really great boat too, we just had the chance to realise the dream of something a bit bigger. Best way is to find a dealer with both in the yard and have a good mooch round, one after the other - Daniel Yeates at BHG in Lymington was well worth our trip from West Wales - if he has both in the yard!! You can then start to visualise the benefits, as we did, whilst standing in the 895. Before setting off for the dealer we did the all important finance comparison as to fuel, servicing and berthing costs, which were key considerations for us before going ‘hands on’. Hope that helps :))

Actually, I keep my existing boat at Lymington (in the Yacht Haven) and I am going to make a boat of going to see Daniel when the season opens up. We have a Sea Ray right now. Great, but very open to the elements. As you say, best would be to take a look at both models. For someone used to being able to grab a line from the helm, I do like the idea of the side door.

Hi Greg, Many thanks for that 😁😂 with the two double cabins it really is a good space and, I think, fine for spending a number of nights on with no problem at all. A week, or longer, because as you say coast hopping gives you access to Marina facilities now and then as ‘visitors’ which would have laundry etc. You’d need to map out your fuel stops and check they supplied petrol, and any offshore stuff would be weather forecast dependent but as a Cat B boat it would easily cross the channel, in the right weather, with the right papers for the French side (I think they require certain papers but I haven’t researched that yet). Our RYA courses were a great insight into planning trips and, with a number of weather apps out there, you can get excellent forecasts. (Don’t pack any pointed items either😂)

Yes it could be Neil. A lot of rivers and canals are speed restricted so the engines might not get the good running that they benefit from but if you were near the coast you could achieve both!! 😁

That’s a really great and informative video - I love the boat, and the similar Beneteau Antares 9. But my god the running costs are high…..I had a Sealine S24 (one 170hp diesel obviously on cheaper red diesel) for 5 years before a temporary relocation to Singapore….we used to regularly run 150 nautical miles in a weekend or up to 400 over a bank holiday weekend so I would have to think very hard about an 895 from a fuel cost perspective but realise it’s not comparing apples to pears across boat size, engine size/number/fuel type and fuels costs…..even so……

The running costs were the main thing we considered before signing on the line which I guess we all have to do!! The Antares is very nice too! Hi Guys, great video and very informative. I came across your videos as I am trying to get a good understanding of the running costs of a Merry Fisher 895. Therefore the fuel consumption vs speed information is a huge help. However, I do have a question I hope you can help me with. The marina that is local to me only supplies diesel fuel. Does your Marina/mooring site supply petrol fuel? If not what do you do to fuel your boat, given the large fuel capacity? ( Maybe I have to find an alternative Marina/storage location that supplies Petrol?)

Hi RideDirt and thanks for that and for watching :) Yea our marina supplies petrol and diesel albeit it is more expensive than the road pump price by 20-30p p litre :( Some in the marina brought it in cans (25litre)to avoid the extra cost but they were generally smaller tanks. There were other petrol suppliers around us too at Milford Haven so we had a small choice. It is an issue - when we looked at travelling down to Devon there was no fuel in the North Coast so sounds like you might have to go hunting for the nearest or choose a marina that supplies which will probably be further away 🙁 A conundrum!!!

Very nice video👍🏻 One question: You talk about the heater and told us he taking the fuel out of the Diesel tank. Is it an extra tank for Diesel? Your normal engines are driven by Diesel or regular gasoline? Thank you and keep going with the very good videos 👍🏻

Hi Tim, Many thanks for your comments, much apreciated :) The Webasto heating runs on diesel supplied from a small 25 litre diesel tank in the lazarette. The boat itself runs on regular gasoline and has two x 300 litre tanks on the port and starboard sides, also down in the lazarette. Hope that helps :)

Great videos, I noticed you have a 3d tender, what model & size is this and how do you find inflating it on deck ? Also how are you getting on with the torqeedo outboard, We have a 1095 and looking to get an inflatable tender and electric outboard for the coming season, been looking at the 3d tenders but a bit unsure of what size we can get away with (2 adults & 2 kids). Many thanks Carl, ours is the Superlight Twin Round Air 250 (2.5m) which is fine for two adults and runs the Torqueedo 1103 Travel which is an amazing bit of kit and pushes the dinghy along well. For all four of you you may want something a bit longer I reckon - perhaps the Superlight Twin Air 290 which is only another 4kgs or so. We’ve had 3 adults in the 2.5 but that ‘snug’ 😁 I originally got the 3D when we had the 795 which allowed easy stowing, as it is so light, on the roof, on a roof rack I made as we had a lot less space than now in the 895!! We had the 12v socket fitted at the cockpit door on the 895 in addition to the standard helm station socket, so inflating is easy (using a Sevylor electric 12v pump) then launch off the swim platforms and fit the engine once it’s in the water as the engine is 3 bits so easy to handle. We’re going to do a film of that later when it’s a bit warmer but you may have bought by then!! The fact it packs down easily into that rucksack type thing makes carry and storage easy - as does the Torqueedo cases - one for battery and the rest goes in a second case which are worth investing in as an ‘extra’ as they’re well made and padded. I was thinking of something around the 2.8/2.9m but was a bit hesitant as i want to make sure we would have enough space to inflate. Glad to see you are back onboard and able to hit the water again, we are extremely jealous. Our boat is in swansea and hoping to get back on board next week once the stay local is lifted and we can do some measuring up and make a final decision. That’s an exciting prospect Mal 🎉😁Yep it could be done single handed - easy to get out of rear and side doors, mid cleats, twin engines and bow thruster working together makes it very manoeuvrable. We are planning a ‘manoeuvring’ film soon, as some subscribers have asked for that, which will persuade you even more that it’s achievable!! There are some good innovations out there too which help you catch mooring cleats with poles and loop your ropes into them from the boat so that’s another plus!! Go for it - albeit the Jeanneau supply chain is VERY clogged at the moment - hopefully not in beautiful Scotland!!

Hi Alexbubububu, Many thanks for your comments 😁 With two double cabins, the convertible seat area opposite the galley and of course the sun deck area out in the cockpit area under the canopy it would certainly be big enough for you for day trips and over nighters. The 795 would be very snug to stay overnight in but the 795 would be fine for day trips with your 5 which we have done in the past on our 795 (5 adults for a day trip) ☀️🎉

Morning Mark, We had the boat permanently hooked up on shore power which doesn't cost much at all and that kept the batteries all 100% :)

I am buying a similar boat, would appreciate if you let me know how useful it is to have a dinghy and life raft (kinda standard from my sailing days but don’t see those on most of the 9m boats)

Hi Robert, thanks for your reply. We have the 3D Superlight Round Dinghy with a Torqeedo electric outboard which is great for getting to shore if anchoring in a bay or, of course, for exploring the coastline or fishing. We don't have a liferaft as such as most of our boating is nearer to shore but do have a MOB rescue sling and a coastal flares pack just in case!!

Hi Paul, Not far off - for example the 895 after 787 NM's so far, since new, is averaging £3.34 per NM @ £1.38 per litre petrol as a current p/l cost. The 795 was at about £1.90 per NM but that's based on year old petrol cost data so would be a bit higher now. Hope that makes sense!

Good Morning Bob Have you made a spreadsheet of your range/ endurance with full tanks at each 1000 revs settings from say 2000 to 4,500. Too expensive for a long time above 4,500. Just interested for proposed longer passages like Poole to Brixham for instance. Sadly there is still a dearth of marine petrol pumps in smaller ports like Weymouth!

Very informative video! But the fuel consumption is bissare. I have a 27 foot Targa (4,5 ton dry) with twin 300 mercs and you consume significantly more fuel than I do. Could it have been build up on the hull since you hadn’t been using the boat for a while?

@@PowerboatingAdventures I am around 3 lifer per nm at 32 knots. Can get it down towards 2.7 if I lower the speed slightly to around 25 knots. A friend of mine has a 37 Axopar he is as low as 2.3 litres per nm when cruising at 20 knots 3500-4500 rpm. I am wondering if your boat is underpowered and would have benefited from slightly stronger engines. The revs would have come down which would have been great for fuel efficiency. Top speed is not of interest with mine or your kind of boat but larger engines need to work less hard and it is all about rpms when it comes to fuel efficiency.

@@PowerboatingAdventures my Targa but with a D6 inboard uses about 1.7 l/nm of diesel at cruising speed of 26 knots so petrol engines (especially with two) are far more fuel consuming.

Hi Bob I have just had zip wakes fitted to our Merry fisher 895 noticed in your video you have the display on the top part of your chart plotter I have Garmin chart plotter and auto pilot screen but can not get the zip wakes to display on the chart plotter what am I missing any advice

Hi Paul, There should be NMEA outlets on both the zipwakes and an input route on the rear of the Chartplotter and its that cable that links the two. It's the same connection for the engine displays that you may also have seen me put up on the Garmin - NMEA cabling with junctions that go to all the components you want to project to the chartplotter. Hope that makes sense - if it doesn't I can probably get some photos of the rear that show the cabling for you. :)

@@PowerboatingAdventures Hi Bob thanks for the prompt reply I know there is a NMEA lead coming from plotter and the zip wakes when I switch to the chart screen on plotter I just get a full screen map not the bar across top like yours showing the fuel or zipwakes does yours come up automatically or did you have to into plotter menu to achieve this Paul

Ah right ok. Sounds like you’ve got the right feeds so now it’s the ‘data overlays’ of the chart plotter I think you’ll need to visit to get the square in each corner and the info bars top and/or bottom - so chart plotter set up instructions :))

I'm not sure on the exact technical performance of one engine V two engines but you would have a steering issue as the single engine running isn't central and therefore the boat would want to travel in circles if the engines were in the straight ahead alignment. The engine that wasn't running would have to be completely out of the water otherwise it would be dragging and economy would be worse. Getting the engine completely out of the water is sometimes a challenge depending on the engine make and when underway, even at slow speeds, the boat naturally tilts towards the rear so the lifted engine may be back in the water slightly. If you overcame those two issues you'd have to do some strict tests on a fixed route with one, then two engines to give you an accurate comparison. The single might work a lot harder and therefore consume the fuel of two engines and more. The 795 has a single 200hp, generally, (can differ) but the 895 is more than twice the weight so the single engine running might not be more economical. The 895, as opposed to the 895 OFFSHORE, has a single engine option - sometimes a 300hp or even a couple of smaller engines say 2 x 150hp. Which ever option you chose would have optimum running speeds for best economy - the Jeanneau Powerboat forums on Facebook, for example, have lots of owners that would happily share consumption date to give you some 'real world' expectations - some may have tried your single engine idea although I've not seen mention of it specifically. Hope that helps :))

Strange,consumption on my 895 is about 55 l per hour at 21-22 mph. Suzuki 2x175. Can't wait to take a ride after 5 months.

It is Demirel, I guess there’s lots of variables with weight in the boat, tide, current so always differences but hopefully it gives a flavour of the Offshore 200’s 😁😁☀️

What is strange? You are using 55 l/hr @ 18 knot/21 mph? He is cruising using 72 l/hr @ 26 knot/30 mph. Sure he would drop down to same or less consuption if he slowed down to same speed?

Many thanks indeed for that Ryan 😁 Now that is exciting! Have they estimated a delivery date for you and is it UK? we’ve had 70mph winds at the Marina and it’s been absolutely fine 😁

Watched this again, still surprised how inefficient that planing hull/outboards combo are. Adjusting for tidal current of 1.5 kts, the best planing speeds (4300 rpm) could barely achieve 1.3 NMPG. Said differently, every mile costs ~3 bob ...or more. Wonder if opting for the small 150 hp engines, used at their own most efficient speed, would be better or worse?

Agreed Jack - I’ve not found a low cost petrol outboard. Perhaps diesel outboards or even the new electric outboards? Having seen the reductions in our costs when we went to an electric car I suspect the electric version is the way forward (minerals access aside!!) or even hydrogen!

I'm really surprised at the fuel consumption. I thought these new out boards would perform better in fuel efficiency. Nice boat but I guess I'll be cross it off the list. 😢

Yes they are definitely thirsty - particularly at marina prices which are higher than the pumps. The film we did of the 695 or the 795's with the single engine are a bit better on the wallet!! Thanks for watching Matthew :)

Yes David - only shore power unless you have a generator fitted which is an 895 option - I think they put it in the lazarette if you opt for that. 😁 I’m sure the gulls have got bigger in lockdown 😂

How much did you pay for that terric boat, it is my dream.
