@@modfather1965 Gotta do more posts. I've been practicing a lot but also finishing an album, due to drop May 1st (80s inspired stuff). My first! Also Marr is coming to Burlington. I thought of going but I have to be honest, his solo stuff doesn't do it for me and the singing, well... I know, he's a super sweet guy. Crazy how all the amazing stuff he did, he did before he was thirty! You seem to be in a long Jam phase. Nice!!

Hey... Yes, I am in a bit of a Jam phase, early stuff. I'd like to do more Smiths stuff, but I haven't been listening to them much for a while now. I saw JM live a few years back in L.A. The show was great. he knows what people want to hear, and he does a lot of the old stuff. I'm impressed as hell your releasing an album! Please let me know where I can go hear/buy it...;-)

Only recently discovered your videos while attempting to 'relearn' songs for a one-off Jam cover band reunion, ahem 40 years after our last performance 😳. Really like your style and chat - and the great sound you make with those Rickenbackers! Thanks so much for making and sharing these tutorials, all of which just increase my respect for the young Paul Weller's incredible guitar, singing and songwriting technique.

I've never used that G2... Looks like a great little accessory though. My Boss ME-50 multi effects pedal has a headphone jack, so I've always just used that when I want phones. But maybe I'll pick up one of those G2's... Also, never heard of National amplifiers until your post. Just went and had a look. Wow, they look and sound really cool... Especially the really old ones. Thanks for the head's up!!!

Well I Really enjoyed that. Good lesson and a nice format and I too like the Yaking (North Yorkshire Dales UK). I had a go at my first Jam song last night (The Modern World), its rubbish but Im looking forward to having a bash at this and also the keyboard section.

Its great having people like yourself who know what they are doing posting tutorials though and much appreciated. Will start learning it tomorrow!!

@@modfather1965 Blimey! Its harder than you make it look. Spent four hours tonight having a go Getting there but might take a while. Struggled to get a decent sound out of my Ibanez Les Paul P230 and Zoom G3. Short keyboard section sounds good though. If I ever get anything worthy of your attention Ill post a link. Great fun though but hard work. Forgot how fast these songs are. My singing is appalling also!

I know, right? BTW, those two 70's Peaveys in my amp line-up are draped with linen tea towels--one of a faded Union Jack, and one of a large 50 pound note. Not that I'm ashamed of them ("Mississippi Marshalls," as Peavey amps are known...). They sound great. Just visually, they're a bit too Heavy Metal looking for my snobbish, elitist, mod tastes. But then again, Weller says--right there in my channel's intro video--that this is what being a Mod or Modernist is all about--"...having good taste." That's subjective, of course. ;-)

Totally agree with the heavy metal looks I have an early 90s red stripe bandit with the slightly better looking block logo but it's still an ugly beast however it's got some great clean and dirty tones and takes pedals very well. I think Peavey make some of best SS amps out there also they do have a couple of better dressed all valve tweed amps that can't be sniffed at.

It's the one on my Boss Me-50 multi-effects pedal. I use it only mildly to help get a nice two-amp dynamic effect which fills the room with sound. This particular pedal allows you to select which amp you want to be dominant... I go back and forth between the AC30 and whatever other amp I'm running with it.

Hey Modfather just a note of great appreciation for your videos and lessons. I’ve enjoyed and learnt from many of them, while coveting your guitars, of course. I had a 330 with hi gains, nice but I’ve never tried toasters. I have a Marr Jaguar which basically sonically does a good Ric hi gain impression, do toasters give another dimension to sound you can put your finger on? Cheers from Melbourne, Australia

Thanks for saying hello. That Marr Jag is a very cool guitar... I'd like to have one some day. As far as Toasters go, I prefer them for two reasons. One, they are wound less hotly than Hi-Gains, and this lower output allows you more tonal control at the amp level. They seem to do cleaner tones better, perhaps for this reason. However, with a good amp and effects, you can get Toasters to sound plenty ballsy (like the old Toasters in this video) Second, I think they look better.

modfather1965 many thanks for your views. My budget won’t stretch to vintage so thinking of swapping out some hi gains for toasters. I agree they look better, the hi gains were a touch muddy for me. You must get that Marr Jaguar, you would love it.

@@modfather1965 good move, you wouldn't trade a hard to replace guitar for it, you can pick up a JM Jag for quite a reasonable price, relative to the quality of the guitar that is.

I don't mind you talking in your videos. It shows that you've researched how to play it correctly/authentically rather than just guessing. When he reforms The Jam, he'll probably refer to your channel to remember how to play all the songs!

He signed my old Jam t-shirt when I was at the gig at the Chiddfest, 2017, with my just graduated from high school youngest son. Couldn't get Bruce to pop his head out and sign though, even though I was a Jam fan who'd waited almost 40 years to hear anything by The Jam performed live. I was in heaven when they started up...

Are the two chord’s for the verses definitely C major and D major? I only ask because I’ve seen Weller play it live and on the D chord he’s covering his index barred finger with his next finger indicating that he’s playing D minor and not D major. I could be wrong of course but that’s what it looks like. Have you tried it with C major to D minor?? It kind of sounds right, but what do I know? Thanks for all the tips by the way

He he... I get why you might say that. However, a fact about the movement that almost no one in the UK knows is that the inspiration for the whole thing was American--American music, style/fashion, instruments, art, literature, etc. It's also true that the Brits (especially those like John Simon, as you'll see in the video trailer link below) appropriated all of these things, and created a youth movement around them.
