When you're not going all out to be cool , but end up being cool ..... The hair, the sound, the clothes , the moves....All 3 of em , you're naturally cool
Attitude, Anger and pure energy as that's what punk was about back then. Brilliant and loved it then and still do now.
One of the best punk songs ever made. Thank you Paul Weller and cheers to you!

Yep, The Jam i would agree one of the greatest Bands to come out of the UK , they were a massive part of my young life growing up in late 70's early 80's etc. I would rush down to my local Our Price Record store, to buy their latest Album with excited anticipation!! Get it home on turntable crank up the volume and jump up and down wearing mostly my MOD gear etc. Weller was and still is the real deal as far as I'm concerned !! I would try and copy in my way the clothes Weller and the band were wearing. Turned me onto class war, working class hero, Socialism etc etc, i had always been more into 60's Music than anything else so the whole MOD revival thing was right up my street, still is really !! I saw Steve Marriott playing alot in 80's of formerly Small Faces and Humble Pie, and then could see Wellers real influences. I saw From the Jam in December last year and Wellers songs still really have a current powerfull message, they will never age !! If you haven,t had your eyes opened by listening to The Jams stuff and Weller then you probably never will sorry to say !! Thanks Paul !!

Listen to this at work every day. Im a bus driver imagine how i feel at the end of the day....ironically forced to meet hundreds of people each day....who knows maybe thats why im still alive? I tend to keep to myself after work tho to avoid killing somebody=) No meds for me yet i suffer in silence haha...ok its not funny...i feel your pain. Also people - avoid public transportation if possible we're a bunch of crazy lunatics with serious mental problems driving you around...just think about it=) Oh and please pay your friggin ticket, you never know if thats what tips me off to drive off the cliff. Thank you! ok...deep breaths now deep breaths...happy place...happy place...
最高❗
Very early Jam. So early they havent thrown out the flares yet 😂😂😂
In The City is a very underrated album. One of my favourites. Would you believe it was released in April, 1977?
Anything that you want to do, anyplace that you want to go Don't need permission for everything that you want Any taste that you feel is right Wear any clothes just as long as they're bright Say what you want, 'cos this is a new art school Do what you want if it takes your mind Better do it now, 'cos you won't have time And never worry if people laugh at you The fools only laugh 'cos they envy you Time is motion and the hands are fast Young words are mumbled, they don't always last It's up to us to be sure they understand Who makes the rules that make people select Who is to judge that your ways are correct The media as watchdog is absolute shit The TV telling you what to think Anything that you want to do, anyplace that you want to go Don't need permission for everything that you want Any taste that you feel is right Wear any clothes just as long as they're bright Say what you want, 'cos this is a new art school Do what you want, 'cos this is the new art school

Weller on the pick up selector switch at the end. In The City is my favourite LP of all time. Weller uses his burgundy 330 that he smashed subsequently. I see that he has a 420 and a Tele as well, the Rickenbacker issue was just starting then. One of Foxton's basses is the Ibanez and the other the real thing presumably.
my roots
2 minutes of class and anger.
The Jam,al principio, eran, tocaban y cantaban..Mod Al igual que " The Who"...GRANDES!!!...Ambos dos Un saludo
The media as a watchdog is absolute shite the tv telling you what to think....P.W had it sussed

they knew how to do the pogo. Punks pretending to be mods!
In The City album is the rough diamond. The Jam respects The Who, their "senior". I don't like The Sex Pistols and I feel fascination and possibility which The Clash hasn't in The Jam.

I'm rather intrigued by your comment. My favourite two bands are the Clash and the Jam. I know all their songs and album ( yes even cut the crap haha ). What do you mean by possibility being a difference between the two bands?

pop art, Rickenbakers, button downs. Obviously the Ramones didnt impress these limeys
This not quite punk because the guitar lacks the dense sound of the Sex Pistols or Exploited say .On the other hand Weller is singing in a cockney accent about politics over an energetic background .The Jam's clothes are slightly less punk than Sham 69 or the Buzzcocks

The jam had their own unique sound. Sort of the 1960s English pop updated with tons of punk energy and a bit of 1970s real life social observation. The records were amazing but live they were the most exciting thing on the planet. You cannot underestimate the extent to which teenagers connected with them and frankly adored them. I think Weller's accent is more home counties working class than Cockney. It's not put on.

@@robertstorey7476 Well yes he didn't actually come from London but Woking.I like the Jam and you're right the Jam were heavily influenced by 1960s pop .I'd think the biggest influence on Weller while he was in the Jam was Ray Davies .For example the character studies of Weller on All Mod Cons and Setting Sons are similar to Davies ones .I think though punk it self was heavily influenced by the 1960s .The Sex pistols covered several 1960s songs .I never said that Weller's accent was put on. I know Weller's background was working class .The Jam in say the late 70s were close to punk . Weller being a talented songwriter could transcend punk and later form the Style Council

I've always seen them as a halfway house between punk and mod. I wouldn't say because the guitiar doesn't sound as crunchy that it's not punk, (not every punk band of the 70s is particularly guitair dense) but at the same time they wanted to spearhead the mod revival movement. It does seem like most people who like the Clash also like the Jam and vice versa, and the Clash also evolved their sound quite quickly by their third album.
I hate The Clash
