I notice everyone thinking it’s too pricey. I think it’s great value. It’s still too much for me to afford at the moment, but that doesn’t take anything away from it. I could afford it if I made it that one priority in life. That’s not going to happen, but I don’t think it’s overpriced.

I know you wear a lot of heavier weight pants and the clip looks like it is a little small-do you have any issues with it accommodating the thickness of your pant pockets? Looks nice, Doody.

it'd be dope to add a finger choil Edit.. After watching further it's probably too small

You’re on to something, though. A finger choil would be awesome on a small fixed blade that’s maybe a touch bigger but essentially the same design.

I got this for my first JW. It is a GREAT design and sheath for a edc fixie, the price is horrendous though. I get s90v isn’t cheap and it comes with a nice sheath and the handle scales are pretty high end feeling, but 234 for this tiny thing? Idk how I feel about it. I like it a lot but idk if I can justify that. I guess it comes down to “whatever makes you happy.” Think $160-$175 would make it a great purchase. I was thinking of picking up a backup but I couldn’t do it. Went with a American made magnacut with an apparently good heat treat Ursus cub at $200 instead.

Yeah it’s pricey. The sheath is well made, so that’s obviously gonna add more value compared to just a regular kydex sheath. But I agree, it’s a lot.

Thank you for the support! I hear what you are saying but man you have to realize that there is NO WAY to sell these at 160-175 with dealers involved. Absolutely impossible. If I could sell them at that price and still make money I would do it all day long. But that is not realistic.

@@BenBelkin I didn’t factor that in, also not a business man myself. So now that you put it that way it’s a bit more clear. I honestly caved in and did get a backup soon after I posted that. 😂 I like the design a lot, so I honestly I can live with it. The more days go by the more I like it and it’s definitely getting carry time.

Just saw the price of these here in Australia... AU$399, almost double the current price of an Australian made small custom fixed blade in Magnacut from a pretty well known Aussie maker which I own (mine is an older version in S35vn which I paid AU$200 for a few years ago. Sure despite not being a little bigger than this JW, it’s a very different design and fit/finish, but Aussie manufacturing is like US manufacturing-expensive! I’ll take a little R&N Blades Helium over the JW any day of the week, and keep the change.

@@BenBelkin I appreciate the classy reply. I mean that sincerely as a lot of people get defensive over their stuff. My Aussie knife is designed for a different purpose and that purpose is the specific reason I bought it. The only similarity to the knife in the video is that it is a small fixed blade. If I didn’t buy it for its intended purpose and still wanted a very small knife-me personally I’ll generally choose a folder... and that is the place where JW could potentially get my business. I’ve given serious consideration to a few of the JW slipjoints in the past, just never found (in stock) just the right combination of blade shape and handle colour/material at a time when I’ve been looking to make such a purchase.

The man is a marketing genius, still can’t understand how he’s selling these at that price. Have several fixies that size that were around $250 that are small batch(semi-custom), US made, in Magnacut and come with a nice Kydex sheath. I guess people like the flashy packaging.

Thank you for the compliment. The knives are priced where they need to be in order for me everyone in the process to make money. There is a dealer margin on these and the manufacturer has to make money too. I bet your fixed blade at 250 was bought direct from the maker and I am curious what scales in has on it and what kind of packaging you received. Bottom line is I am not gouging on these. This is what it costs to produce and distribute, without working for free.

@@BenBelkin I have to apologize, I went back to double check the price and my memory did fail me. They were $269 for G10 scales and $275 for CamoCarbon. And yes, they came straight from the maker with just the box they were shipped in. I have so many knife boxes that I really don’t mind that. I truly think your designs are beautiful and have struggled with buying one of the slip joints, but the cost has been the deciding factor. The presentation that comes with the knives is great, but it’s something I can do without if it will lower the cost.

@@oliverwoehrmann5992 Thank you for replying to me and hey no worries! Yeah 269-275 USD direct from the maker with Kydex sounds about right. So figure if there was dealer distribution on those and even if your maker was willing to give up some profit for a bulk wholesale, those would still go for well over 300 at that point, as high as 350. And they become much harder to sell at that point. It's tough! My offering is 235 with a premium leather sheath, premium steel, premium handle materials, top notch fit/finish and a cool package to boot. All with dealer distribution. I simply can't do any better on these. Regarding my slipjoints, I appreciate the feedback. I know you are not alone in that sentiment. My dealers have had some 20% off sales which makes things easier to digest. Keep an eye out for those sales in the future. Have a nice evening.

Too damn expensive for a tiny Chinese made fixed blade. I don’t get it. Just pushes me farther away from wanting a JW. Then the fact that Ben responds to comments like a bot doesn’t help either. It’s like he doesn’t get that no knives are for everyone.

  • @BenBelkin

    @BenBelkin

Should I not respond to comments? I've never said my knives are for everyone. I know the are not for everyone. These knives are made with very little compromise. It is a premium series that is expensive to produce. I make a fair margin, which equates to less than my dealers make on these. Sounds like you wouldn't be happy unless I worked for free so you can get the price you want. SorryI I just can't do that.

@BenBelkin ok maybe i went a bit far, but to be fair, I still have a point here. When your most direct competitors in terms of quality and design are less per knife, have more demand, better reputation, and lower prices as well as being more transparent with product inquiries, it does kind of feel that way.

  • @BenBelkin

@@vinnie_baggadonuts I fail to see your point. I have direct competitors with knives priced both lower and higher. You have no way to quantify the demand for my knives, you have no way to quantify mine or anybody else's reputation, and I am extremely transparent aside from disclosing my OEM. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Which you would never do anyways as you clearly made up your mind. Have a great day.

@BenBelkin Your reputation is decided by the community and what is said, and how your product is received. So, literally no one can quantify it, but I'm far from alone. You're just being pedantic trying to say it can't be quantified. You could easily tell me what Hobacks reputation was after he lied about his production models. You could also tell me how CRK is received by the community after years of doing what they do. You don't need numbers to do that. I'd say people with a similar product and better pricing, more long-term demand , and more transparent are very much present. They may not be as active in the youtube comments, but they are a message away. Being that I'm in a lot of communities and go to a lot of shows, I'm fairly aware of what is said about you and your product, and yes, not disclosing the OEM is huge to collectors. I'm far from the only person who should be in your audience on paper who isn't, many of them based on that fact alone. It feels disingenuous in a community that is very transparent about those things when it comes to production models.... even the company I jokingly compared you to tells you who makes their knives in at least some cases. You also have a good day

@@vinnie_baggadonuts let's face it, all your complaints boil down to the fact I do not disclose the OEM. Otherwise, my reputation for producing a quality product and providing excellent customer service is exceptional from everything I can tell. People might not like my pricing but the pricing has to be the way it is with dealer distribution and I cannot work for free. Let me ask you a question. If I were to tell you that BesTech was the OEM, would that be an acceptable answer to you?
