The J-Tool (Homemade)

The 1st video shows how effective a J-Tool can be vs. a panic bar. Understand that this technique works best on double doors without a mullion (vertical part of the door frame that separates the 2 doors). If the gap between the doors is tight, you can use a pry par to spread the doors enough to insert the J-Tool. I make J-Tools out of old election/advertising signs that people stick in their front lawns.
The 2nd video shows a J-Tool vs. Automatic Door Sensor. I’ve noticed some high rise apartment buildings/condos have installed these automatic sliding doors at their entry foyer. Tenants are given a key fob to open the door when entering the building. However, when exiting the building they just have to walk up to the door sensor, and the door will open (incase of emergency, and people have to evacuate fast). Firefighters who need to gain access during an emergency, can slip the J-Tool between the door and the frame, and swing it in front of the sensor in hopes of tripping it. The success of this technique will heavily depend where the sensor is, and can the J-Tool reach it.
