Corbyn missed a trick by not being there. Would have turned it from a almost 'fringe debate' to one with merely an 'empty chaired' May. Big mistake.

It is true although also it would have meant he was going to take a little flak from parties which wouldn't have normally had the means to give him any so yah. Realistically the polls wouldn't have changed by much either way but tbh i'm with you on this one. Lets him be just that little bit higher on his horse.

I agree. And if the media are really against him as he claims, then a live leaders debate is a rare chance to get around that. I did enjoy Nicola's swipe at Nuttall being May's spokeman.

Oh dear. Paul Nuttall gave all other parties a chance to speak but they never let him get a word out. I hate people who talk over someone else, the debate is not about party leaders winning an argument it is about allowing the party leaders to answer the questions that the British public want answers too.
I am voting for lary the cat
Farron, Nuttall and I hate to say it, Sturgeon were the strongest here.
If Nuttall had interrupted half as much as the others did him- they would say it was sexist. They even tried to take political issue with him getting a name wrong. Either they are hysterical or stooping low to make a point- which is it?

The moderator was annoying. Saying "okay" in attempt to cut them off A) doesn't work B) makes it so they would be cut off in a random place.
47 minutes in, paul nuttall, although i don't agree in his policies (im a green party member) is totally winning this debate, i don't agree with the means but i do agree with the results and intentions

paul nuttall is brilliant at making the conservatives look like a far right party, they chose the right leader, nicola sturgeon easily the most professional and experienced, caroline lucas easily the most aware of the relevant problems. the other 2 lost the debate, sorry
Natalie won
I've never understood the argument 'if you don't get the answer for you'll have another election' - if that's the case, then the electorate changed their mind i.e democracy

Rudd: "Maaaggie where are you? Please come and help!"
I don't know why the Welsh and Scottish nationalists nationalists were invited. They barely have a population of ten million between them. The UK in total is around 70 million. And unless you live in those regions you can't vote for them. They should only debate at local level.

I find it odd that on one hand UKIP says people are the best judge of how to spend money, yet when it comes to education they seem to believe that people are not able to best determine for themselves whether or not they should go to university. If there is demand from the people for the "too many courses," who is UKIP to question that?
By taking part in this debate you're basically declaring defeat
How far has British democracy sunk?
why should we be looking for a deal.they should be looking for a deal with us
Nuttall seems to be trying to copy Farage's style a bit. I think he needs to craft his own identity if he wants to gain the same popularity level. I am not a UKIP supporter but this programme was very much biased against him.
If teachers, doctors and nurses are going to food banks. (which I find very hard to believe.) They need a few lessons in home economics rather than a pay rise, taffy. The lowest of those professionals are on about £20,000 - £30,000 a year. Some of us have to make do on a even Less and keep away from food banks. . That's bollocks!!

because they know what a clown fest this debate is. These morons only have ad hominems and no actual policies. they stand to lose nothing. May and Corbyn stand to lose everything. history shows minority parties win votes in tv debates and national parties lose them. it was a wise decision especially given that the main stream media has a far left bias.
Nicola talks about scrapping parking charges but fails to mention hospital tourism costs 1.8 billion a year. We need to sort out the NHS from the ground up. Too much waste.
The Greens Caroline Lucas was class!
Without Labour and Conservative leaders this is a pointless debate.
Is Nuttall wearing a Wolves tie?
I hope that Sturgeon has a debate with Scottish Labour and Conservative leaders. Nobody challenging her much at all on Scotlands systems, need something specifically for Scotland.
Surprised none of the opposition parties haven't summed up the current PM's total lack of backbone with the following slogan: Teresa May ... Or May Not!

So basically Paul Nutall vs everyone else
It's a shame Theresa May couldn't attend. She was probably busy answering more important questions, such as 'Who puts the bins out?'
The "Also Rans"
If May can't be here to debate, I don't trust her negotiating Brexit.
If you don't like the deal, you can vote to stay in the EU? This isn't a vote on the deal, it's a way to get around the results, they don't agree with.
Economic and political cooperation with foreign powers _necessarily_ entails a loss of sovereignty. Nuttall advocates leaving the EU on the basis that it will enable the UK to trade more freely with third parties (India, China etc). However, I wonder if his delusions about 'national sovereignty' would not also preclude an effective bilateral agreement with these countries as it did with Europe.
Corbyn never declined the invitation - he pulled out after May declined the invitation because he didn`t want to appear opportunistic in HER absence
@kpjlflsknflksnflknsa
7 жыл бұрын
That won'y fly with the electorate. Non-attendance sends a very bad message and, once again, Corbyn has shot himself in the foot.
Can Tim Farron make a point without referencing his family or himself?
Paul Nuttall: "I don't buy the sun" but I have views that the Sun would propagate 24/7! Knobhead!
Watching them all yell like spoiled little children over Paul is so frustrating to watch. Had enough of that during the ref debates, some of these candidates need to show some respect and act their age.
These debates are about performance , the ability to stand up in front of an audience and perform ... the closest skill to a polished politician is a comedian, practiced, rehearsed and delivered. Teresa May doesn't have these skills so why would she fall into the trap. She's not that kind of performer but she is a politician with a heart and that is what we are voting for. So don't judge her for her stand up skills, judge her for her policies.
look how long it took for Canada to reach a free trade deal with the EU. About 10 years...don't kid yourselves that deals after a hard Brexit will simply happen in a few months.
Nuttall is the only one making sense the rest Sturgeon Scotland only, Woods Wales only, Farron wants to stay in the EU, Lucas wants to stay in, Nuttall is correct in controlled immigration you will still have over seas Doctors and nurses that's the point of CONTROLLED immigration. DFID must be also controlled How many hospital beds how many day care homes, better wages for people who look after the sick and frail, I know I'll be voting UKIP. Most or if all these countries hate the western world and what we stand for.............
@jonathanhenly99
7 жыл бұрын
'Sturgeon Scotland only, Woods Wales only'. Actually that makes perfect sense given that's who their parties represent.
Is Nicola blinking Morse Code?
Everyone sounded the same, only UKIP sounded different!
15:10 seems like cameraman knew exactly the line Nicola Sturgeon was about to deliver so screen view was switched to get Paul Nuttall's reaction. Psychic or has there been collusion with Sturgeon so she knows questions and ITN would even know how she will respond?
Another example of why these "leaders" debates are such a waste of time because they generate more heat than light, all posturing and posing. Why don't they actually get off their backsides and go and meet people and win the argument that way. Seems to me it was nothing more that UKIP vs the liberal cartel, indeed only one the them needed to turn up, the Lib Dems etc were all saying the something, were is the alternative in that?
@R1cHarris

Elvis Has left the building That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard. TV is by far the most effective way of communicating a message. These leaders are engaging with people in communities way more than Teresa May as well as doing this debate. It doesn't have too be one or the other. Also, I think it's good to show people that Ukip are out on their own with some of their ideas, but also where this agreement.

Don't you mean read? Anyway if you really believe that, one you should get out more and two you should spend more time listening to Tim Farron the defination of stupid. If your idea of a free , open and informed debate is three liberials, vs one right winger in a staged debate then have fun. The more American are politics becomes the more distant it feels from people.
@paulwalker3758

Well, tell that to Theresa May. She's been meeting Tory supporters, but not other people. JC has been meeting arena's filled with people. Sturgeon (along with this) has been going door to door in some parts of Scotland.
@paulwalker3758
7 жыл бұрын
Also, 3 liberals and a right winger. Who's the mid-ground politician / the one you're ignoring? Remember that the right wing benefit from having less parties as there are less people to split the vote with.
Not Paul's biggest fan, but this seems like a hatchet job. Only member on there who isn't for remaining. Theresa was wise not to appear on this panel. And UKIP were NOT involved with the £350 mill (actually, it's more than that. But that's another argument) Slogan. Nigel repeatedly pointed this out (on deaf ears, mainly)
Can anyone explain why no Northern Ireland parties are ever represented? Surely the DUP should have been represented? They have the 4th most seats in the UK, and if Plaid Cymru have a place, then why don't they?
The 2 people who matter in this election are not here. Not worth seeing this then.
I think the greens and lib Dems seem to be closer than I thought
Not a single leader was on stage.
the Wales party who's name is can't spell's opening speach was just LOOK HOW BAD TERESA MAY IS wait what are we doing it dunno but it's gotta be better than them
everybody there seemed to be accepting second best before they had even began , there isn't a single party who wants to look at the LONG TERM SOLUTION, all these parties do is look for the short term fix, for example tim farron said that you need migrant workers to build homes? there are 1.6 million unemployed in this country, why can't we look to them and fix the long term problem ? we actually need a party who look to the long term and solve the economic problems we have in this country, and I assure you if you look at it , NONE OF THEM EVER DO !
Oh Theresa lol 😂 it didn’t go well for you
The press are giving the Tories an unbelievably easy time; the Tories haven't costed any of their proposals, and the press should be nailing them for it -instead they're letting them off scot-free
What a waste of a programme. Where are the 2 candidates that really matter in this election?
Tim from Preston...
Actually very glad that May and Corbyn didn't show up because we finally get some coverage for smaller parties so people realise they don't JUST have two choices. Sick of the disproportionate BBC coverage of Labour, Conservatives and even UKIP! Its amazing that the Greens actually get more than 2 seconds of air time in this.

Maddie It doesn't matter how much you value climate change to be an issue, it matters hoe much the electorate do. The coverage on parties will vary on the support or public interest on the issue, the environment is not the first issue that people are concerned about, immigration is.

Tim Farron last played a part on Thunderbirds. They did a good job hiding his strings. Lian Woods stated Australia had a bigger immigration than the UK. Tha's because Australia needs what they need but, still operate a points system. She always was, as thick as two short planks. Caroline Lucas lives on cloud nine and wants to do a deal Kim Yun Chun, or, whatever his name is, over Nuclear weapons. Good luck with that. Sturgeon speaks with fork tongue as usual. At least Nuttall appears to speak with common sense.
May is disintegrating more and more every day, all she can do is read from an auto-cue. She has an appalling record as PM and Corbyn would destroy her in a debate.
I cannot watch Farron and Sturgeon for very long. We should ensure we give Wales the same amount of money per head of population as we do to Scotland under the Barnet formula. Wales supported Brexit and yet we pander to Wee nippy because she shouts the loudest.
Would have preferred Farage than Nutter.
32:18 Paul's face at Tim's lies. Current Staffing levels in the NHS, from the EU. He says 1/4 - 25% Across the UK, EU immigrants make up 10% of registered doctors and 4% of registered nurses. Much more of our NHS staff, are made up from OUTSIDE the EU. Tim is also incorrect about our trade with the EU. He says half of our trade is with the EU. Around 17 years ago (2000's), 55% of our trade WAS done with the EU. Since then, it has steadily DECREASED to 43%. What would it be like in another 15 years? And the EU's trade with the rest of the world has steadily DECREASED with the rest of the world, too.

@southendparaquest

Ok, yes I stand corrected. Although he is still misleading people on 2 counts re foreign nationals working in the NHS 1. The only figure that is close to what Tim is saying, is that 26% of our DOCTORS are foreign nationals. Total percentage of foreign nationals working in the NHS is 11%. 2. Skilled migrants, as been said time and again, would be welcome in the UK. And that would count for nurses and doctors. Certainly, you'd be welcomed into Aus/NZ with those skills.

You thought that Green candidate , Plaid Cymru candidate and Sturgeon had a grasp of reality; have you taken a blow to the head? Paul Nuttall was speaking for the majority of people , the 52 per cent and the point I was making was that while the majority of people outside of Parliament wants Brexit , the vast majority of the MPS in Parliament are Remainers , which clearly was shown on this programme 4 on 1 . Nuttall being the leader of a political party as well and therefore a member of the political establishment as well... Not al members of the political establishment share the same views.
So many people say 'our NHS if full of migrants and is reliant on it' as a good thing! It's crazy that we have let our country become reliant on migrant workers, they should be welcomed here to benefit and improve our country, not to be relied on to prop it up, Brexit will hopefully bring the balance back
I take it that this programme was recorded down south. every time sturgion was asked for her view on every topic you would think that she was in a television studio in scotland. Every answer she gave scotland came into it somehow. I come from scotland but i can not stand her.

To me this just highlights how much of a shame it is that the vast majority of uk politics is shifting further to the left and the viable right wing voices are disappearing. If Farage was still in the picture, I'd have no hesitation voting for UKIP, but Nuttall doesn't seem capable of leading a strong message and keeping stupid accusations from the other leaders at bay..
