A friend of mine fought in the Iraq war. One of the stories he told me that he would frequently see women being stoned to death for adultery by Iraqi police (and others). Despite the fact that murder was being committed in the open, he was told not to do anything because it was a “local issue”. Why were the Iraqis able to get away with this? Because despite their horrible record, (compared to western forces) they were less bad than the other militants in Iraq. The truth is the only thing unique about the settlers in the West Bank is that some of them face consequences. If the settlers were in Syria, Iraq or Yemen, (and not Jewish) they wouldn’t be viewed as evil but rather as a example of what a Middle Eastern militia should strive to be.
