The thing is the music created in the early 70’s to mid 80’s by the Isley Brothers, EWF, Commodores, Whispers, K&TG, Spinners, Ohio Players and O’Jay’s followed by groups in the late 70’s early 80’s created a musical genre the youngsters born in the 90’s til now cannot comprehend. We are talking about the core of all music played even today. Since almost everything you hear is sampled from that 15 year period. R&B, Soul, & Funk is the Foundation of almost all music created today, and timeless tracks that are relevant listening to this day. Reactions by Ashley and most of the reaction bloggers under 35 years old is a clear testament to this fact. Some have never even heard of these groups or solo artist like Luther Vandross, Teddy Pendergast, Peabody Bryson, Patti Labelle, Stephanie Mills or Tina Marie. How is that possible with a catalog of no less than 500 hit songs from that period from them and others. Talking about a SMH MOMENT. These kids and I do mean kids 35 or not will have too get with the program and get your headphones on and listen.

Imagine the impact this music had on a white boy with no rhythm? I was hypnotized, in a trance, and freaked out before that was a known condition. I played their LPs over and over...amazing! I tried to discuss this band with my white friends to no avail. I am so happy this music is being rediscovered by a younger generation. Hopefully, this will create a desire to make this type of music again in the future.

By the way, the 3 oldest brothers (including lead singer Ronald) started recording in the mid 50s. Then in 1973, two younger brothers along with a "brother-in-law" joined in to make up the 6. Also, even though the older 3 had success & hits, the younger 3 came in and updated their sound to that trademark "Isley Brothers Sound" that we all know and love them for. (Somebody is killin' it today!) Good reaction!

Back in 1975 there were so many great and talented artists and bands. And The Isley Brothers were right there at the top. And deservedly. As a matter of fact, I felt blessed to have experienced their albums during the mid 1970's. It seemed to me that it didn't matter what genre the music was, I liked most every song on any radio station I listened to. Those were some very joyful years for me, Ashley. I'm happy you had a chance to listen to their beautiful music.

I am glad you’re enjoying the blessings from the Isleys. So did all the soulful baby boomers. The difference is you could binge on their music. We had to wait for the songs to be released. Bingeing was something you did with a bottle of booze back then. They were too smooth! You have to get into some of their earlier recordings. Remember, they have been blessing us with this sound from the 50s! One of my favorite songs was “Its your Thing” recorded in 1969. FYI: They also performed live at Yankee Stadium to a packed house in 1969. Great stuff!
