THE ISLE OF SKYE - TWO CAMPSITE TOURS + The Old Man Of Storr - Camping - Hiking & Photography

Here is my latest trip to The Isle of Skye and its now my new favourite place to go and I will be back.
I show you two campsites, visit The Old Man Of Storr, go hiking (a bit) - Take some photographs along the way AND you get to find out how the dehumidifier worked as I eventually remembered to use it..
Apologies for not including the camera settings on the last 4 images, I completely forgot to edit them in :( - I will do better next time...

Further to my thoughts on positive pressure damp air replacement in the van to prevent condensation. How about putting the Webasto fan on ( without the heat through the night, while you are asleep ), to provide the positive pressure, then open your two front windows a crack, covered by your wind deflectors but not too much to lose the positive pressure and you have a perfect positive pressure damp air displacement system. I will let you take all the glory, by testing my theory out Colin on your next cold weather camp. Happy Camping ! p.s. put your ear plugs in !

I have thought about a dehumidifier for my van but i think i am going to experiment with the environvent type approach i.e. if you have a small p.c. type fan sucking in dry air from the outside and constantly pressurising the van internal space, above normal atmospheric pressure, the stale moist air will find it's own way out through other vents and cracks, being replaced by the outside dry air fed from the fan. I have a fan, just need to fashion some cowling, from the open window crack ( covered by wind deflectors) to make it work i think. Worth a try.

Were the toilets in the cafe Colin. We’ve just come back and although south Skye motor home park pitches were v good, shop was shut and there was only one toilet in one of the 2 shower rooms , which by morning was a bit grim 🙈🤢😂 . Skye is just amazing in the van though isn’t it

Hey, yeah, you could access the same toilets via the cafe and then the side entrance when the cafe was closed. We have been to most of the tourist points of interest on Skye, the Quirraing is much more impressive than the old man of Storr for photography in my opinion, especially the view from the boggy top looking out to sea and of course the land slip itself ( largest land slip in Europe, still slipping. You want to spend a week on Skye with the family. When i did the old man of Storr, i did the Quirraing large loop on the same day, taking pictures as i went. My wife didn't climb either attraction, because she isn't fit enough, so i didn't want to leave her for too long, so i rushed up and around to get back, respectively on both. It took me 1 hour 4 minutes to get up to the Storr viewpoint, around the Storr and back to the car park and 1 hour 40 minutes to walk the Quirraing loop. ( I have a VO2 max in the middle 60's, which helps. ) The boat trip on the 'Misty Isle' at elgol is good, as well as Neist point, fairy pools, fairy glen, coral beach, kilt rock and the beautiful view of the black Cuillin mountains, over the top of the old bridge at Sligachan over the river ( classic photograph ) as well as places like Portree etc. A wonderful Island but a lot of travelling in between. While you are at Skye, Plockton just across the Kyle of Lochalsh shouldn't be missed for the photographer either but then again the whole of the West Highland Coast up to Clachtol, Stoer, Durness inludung all the Lochs and mountains, need to be explored, especially including the Applecross Peninsula are all jaw droppingly beautiful, don't miss the dreaded bealach na ba either. As you can tell this area is my favourite place on Earth. The true ' god's country' .

Hey buddy, thank you so much. It's super hard question to answer I'll be honest. It all depends on many variables. However, you can't go wrong with a Sony A6400 with the kit lens (you can upgrade lenses as you go) or if you're on a budget, try pick one up used. A lot of people think that if you're starting out that cheaper is better just in case you don't get along with it. But in my oppinion, spending a little extra for a good camer won't put you off and the resale value should stay decent especially if you buy used in the first place). Most of all, have fun with it. Go out with your phone camera first specifically to get decent and well composed photos, if you enjoy that, you'll enjoy it with an actual camera. Don't forget to look in to a good quality editing program too as if you're shooting in RAW (something more advanced but you'll get there) you'll want to edit them a bit.. Watch loads of KZread videos and get out and enjoy yourself:)

You know a lot of the owners of these campsites discard rubbish themselves at free spots so they can lobby the councils to take action so that we are forced rather than obliged to stay on there land with zero privacy, sub par to no views and charged for it. You need to wake up to the con, I mean have you ever seen a vanlifer leave crap lying about? Not me, not ever.
