What does the current state of play regarding the IS strategic communication operations look like?
Charlie Winter Charlie Winter visited NUPI 15 December 2017 for a seminar organized by the Consortium for Research on Terrorism and International Crime.
His presentation, which is based on a longitude archive of primary source materials collected by Winter since early 2014, evaluated the current state of play regarding Islamic State strategic communication operations. It identified the organisation's messaging priorities at present and explains the notion of "pre-emptive nostalgia," a motif that has been present in its propaganda since mid-2016.
