It is what happened long long ago, It is a bead in a story belt, It is what has been forgotten, It is the smell of sweet grass and cedar, And prayers lifted to sky father, It is a way and a tradition, The way it was always done by the people, It is a feeling of warmth, The sound of voices, Listen, I am dancing underneath you, for I am your mother!

@@MrBongobongbongo Funny how this little conversation, which happened 5 years ago, I only now see. lol Strange, too, is the comment "You tell 'em' ds" While ds are my initials. I don't understand it. Anyhow, Google can say more than I but I know that their range acted as a barrier to those from the north. Iroquis were extremely dominant. I remember the husband of Mary Jamison, ( she was captured near Philadelphia) would go down south and steal woman to sell on his way home. I also remember reading in particular that they were the reason for French not being the language of NewYork, which is what I referred to in this old comment. This makes me wonder if someday I'll be asked about a comment from 20 years ago. lol I'm not complaining and I'm sure I am getting more long winded with age. I recommend reading the story of Mary Jamison's capture which was written by a doctor when she was old. I think around 1820? Its very short and is probably a free audiobook on KZread. I "read" over a hundred non-fiction books per years. My first and only fiction I'm on now War and Peace-too many names and too long. I prefer Tolstoy's short stories.

You should study the Human history of ancient language, and communication, and how it has evolved over time, and learn to appreciate it. It has always been "necessity" that drives change in life. We all come into this world on a basic level of existence, until our parents install the "necessity of change" in our lives through their first teachings, and our lives are changed.

The "necessity" was not there to drive the need to develop a better way of communication among the tribal peoples, who did not develop a written language, or evolve beyond a basic existence. There is a complexity in the oral language, and a mental discipline to remember, and pass down ancient stories of a past history. Such people are still intelligent. Our ancestors of the ancient past were the same way, until an innate drive created the need to develop a better way to communicate.

Handsome lake was given a spiritual message to bring to our people, the Peacemaker brought the message of the great law . Both of these messages were accepted by our ancestors in the longhouse, and today we continue in that tradition to carry on both as best as we can. Only those who are lost and corrupted by colonialism, condemn their ancestors who brought good messages to our people.

Sitting back & Criticizing is always the easy Part, getting involved by talking to the leaders is how people will get there voice heard. The Clans Mothers are to work together with the Chiefs, Not one higher then the Other. The Great Law came to our people at a time of fighting with each other, The League of 5 Nations was formed, Laws all laid out. mid 1700's Our People Turned away from all responsibilities.

It's arrogant to assume (as Joseph Campbell constantly did) a commonality in these stories when the language, culture, and perspective of the peoples retaining and sharing them for generations are specific to their cultures. Superficially, the symbolism might seem the same, but one shouldn't have to separate the story from the language and people to find commonality. Rejoice and respect how UNIQUE these stories are from one another and how part of being human is the vastness of how we see the world.

Imagine vice versa DanksSativa, imagine if the Iroquois were dominant over the Christians, how it should be in the USA, & so imagine if the Christians of Europe kept hearing "woah, this Jesus guy sounds alot like Lord Tekanawida!" "Woah, this Lucifer dude sounds like Sawiskeron!" (I cant remember if thats how you type the names). Point being, Judaism is cool, but stop acting like its global, it fucking isnt.

  • @thor2070

My people as you call it would be all of Humanity. Europeans began as warring tribesmen, who warred on each other for dominance, and control. Necessity drove the need for better weapons, and better means of communication which give rise to the written language. And as for studying history? "Your people" performed human sacrifices to their gods for victory over their enemies. This continued until the Christian Church put a end to it in a brutal fashion.

@myindianname 2of2 remember Alcohol was a non-factor when The Great Law was first established. Once our People became introduced to Alcohol, All Hell Broke Loose, we were trading all our goods for Alcohol. U think Ceremonies, great law, way of life was a priority? NO, This is why the Creator Sent "the Code" it was meant to set people back on the right path. If we had been doing what were suppose to all along. they wouldn't have needed would they? The Way i see it, as if we didn't follow the code

Handsome lake was merely a way to take the people off the beaten path of what the creator intended for our people, cause you loose your religion and you loose your self along with your culture. If you notice most of the people have lost all of it right down to the language. The great law is the law of the lands on Turtle Island and always will be, the people need to wake up to the decit and restore the ways of our people. Nya:wen

The skill of metal working began in Africa, as well as animal domestication. The ancient primitive technology spread from there. This discussion was about language and communication, but you want to take it somewhere else. It is you who has a narrow view of human history that needs serious correcting. I have a much greater understanding of culture that goes beyond aboriginal studies. You have much to learn about ancient civilizations on their impact on the world.

@@patriciademekpe404 that's not the only reason why there's a lot of white in the native tribes. A lot of the tribes stole white children. They enslave them. A lot of tribes also enslaved each other. I know it's part of my history as a native that a lot of the men folk married white girls. And it's interesting that a lot of the females married white men. Natives were not peaceful people. I grew up being told don't go in the woods the Mohawks will scalp you. The Iroquois native destroyed many Native American tribes. That is part of my history.
