"The Invader" [remastered] Sci-Fi from ESCAPE! Classic Radio • HOWARD "Floyd" McNEAR

An alien race picks up a HAM radio signal from earth, after the flash of light from a nuclear bomb test catches their attention. Naturally, the aliens are far ahead of us technology-wise and they're also quite friendly, but they do have a couple of things going against them. Listen to find out what they are!
This episode features Howard "Floyd" McNear as the whipped husband who makes first contact. The sound quality is excellent.

✓√✓√✓×✓+√×✓STUFF and such: Listen closely at the show's beginning, and you'll here a familiar sound effect! (if you watch Star Trek TOS)
✓√×✓+√×✓+√×✓+✓×√ MORE Stuff: A little about HOWARD MCNEAR: He was a busy actor long before he settled down in Mayberry to become a barber! He appeared in quite a few Suspense and Escape episodes, he was a regular on the great cop drama "The Lineup," plus he would turn up here & there, now & then on many of the "Theater & Playhouse" type shows. He was "Doc" on classic radio Gunsmoke until he went to Mayberry to cut hair, which he did for a few years until he had a stroke. After he stroked out he'd just sit in the barber's chair all day.
✓√ ✓√✓ More Mayberry trivia: After the stroke Ernest T. Bass would sneak up behind Floyd, then spin him around & around barber's chair.

This story is very similar to an episode of Dimension X or X Minus 1 I’ve looked but can’t find the title, the difference being a government scientist was involved and the public knew they were coming. When the ship arrived it was tiny as well but instead of being destroyed in water they were crushed by the pressure of the atmosphere. And this may be a bigger stretch but in s2 e15 of the original Twilight Zone The Invader w/Agnes Moorhead an episode that had no dialogue except Rod Serling and one or two words from a Robot the story was flipped and the tiny space craft is revealed as coming from earth and the giant (Agnes Moorehead ) is the alien. If I’ve stepped on toes here and said to much let me know and I won’t do it again.

You're fine. I've seen every Twilight Zone a dozen times! I like your comparison of the tiny space craft.

There were several radio scripts following the same “tiny invasion” idea. One featured an alien ship that learned to communicate in English as it approached, only to disintegrate in a rain storm. Another featured an ark ship that crash landed and eventually perished on a backyard ant hill. You could also include _Surface Tension_ in this sub-genre, but that story was so much more imaginative, it simply stands on its own. Douglas Adams made fun of the whole idea in Hitchhiker’s Guide when a galactic invasion fleet is sent to destroy Earth, only to be swallowed by a small dog. Considering the staggering number of episodes produced by NBC alone, it’s not surprising stories got recycled. Episodes were expected to be broadcast a few times before being lost to the airwaves forever. A writer can be forgiven for revisiting and revising an idea.

@@dmrr7739 your first example was my first example but my description was obviously not clear enough for you to notice. The size of the aliens is not something science fiction in entertainment deals with anymore as a central issue or at least I can’t think of an example recently that that was dealt with that other then the slight difference in Battlefield Earth although that’s a “true” story so that might not fit.
