The interrogation of Saddam Hussein and U.S. policy in Iraq

On March 22, the Brookings Intelligence Project hosted former CIA analyst John Nixon, author of the new book, “Debriefing the President: The Interrogation of Saddam Hussein” (Blue Rider Press, 2016), to outline his findings from his interrogation of Hussein, and what lessons he believes can be learned.

I'm against the whole IRAQ war thing, so don't get me wrong, but Saddam had committed many many atrocities, both during wartime (with IRAN) and on his own people. Having said that, I'm 100% of the opinion that the US should have no business in "regime change" in foreign countries and we should focus on closing off our southern border and keeping business and manufacturing here. I'm not at all a neocon but let's not pretend that Saddam wasn't a POS just because what was done to him in the end was 100% wrong.

No evidence at all, the weapons inspectors, as John said, were mostly made up of intelligence officers assessing Iraq’s capabilities, we’ve seen some people resign (Butler who resigned over this) and some people killed (David Kelly). There were also no evidence/fabricated evidence to some of the claims they made about genocides and mass graves, like the Halabja genocide, turned out to be a battle between Iraq and Iran, and when taking soil samples and samples from victims, the DIA (U.S Defence Intelligence Agency) concluded with a report that said that the chemical weapons used were Iranian (Hydrogen Cyanide) NOT Iraqi (Stephen Pelletiere - ex CIA analyst and University Professor in NY). A lot of b.s is surfacing especially now after over a decade of the end of the official war.

What screwed Iraq wasn't necessarily the US intervention, but the absolute lack of follow through. The costs, of all aspects, need to be carefully weighted before the action. In this case I don't think that truly happened. Add to that the capriciousness of US politics and that country, and all of the blood Iraqi and coalition, was wasted.

Sorry, you still don’t get it. No amount of follow through and money poured in would work when the American decision makers refused to understand the dynamics of the Iraqis and their history. It shows because they went ahead with the execution.

We can see the right from wrong no one needs to tell us. Saddam Hussein was a Warrior a lion, Shield for his country. Just like our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ❤ Türkiye. Our countries need strong leaders so war makers killers, like US don't mess with us Saddam Hussein was innocent, we could see innocence in his face warmth. He died with dignity his final words was all true. So good he smashed the arrogant judge with the truth and Saddam Hussein had his final say.❤

It is quite disappointing to have well educated men using a blanket statement of "There was no WMD". Granted, there were no roving chemical vans. To prove that your blanket statement is incorrect simply ask a question: How did Chemical Ali get his name? Burial does not mean all Iraqi WMD were destroyed. The US mil were still finding buried artillery shells up to 2015.

Second question, if Saddam Hussein died and Uday Hussein succeeded Saddam, How would future events unfold? No doubt Saddam was a mad man. Uday was a psychopath. It appears that it was best that all three Husseins were killed. But that leaves another dilemma, the mad uncles and half brothers. It is clear that not all cancers can be cured.

Leave the world alone. The US managed to unstable the middle east. With the military US cannot give the right of education to Afghan women, when the fathers and brothers of those women don't want them because of cultural reasons. Imposing western ideology is not going to bring peace.
