The crazy thing is that people typically resist them for their lack of “coolness” and the symbolism of parenthood and lack of freedom. But when you really look at them, they’re ridiculously practical. Even way more than crossovers, despite essentially being the same exact thing.

I bought my stepwagon when I got out of my parents place during the start of the lockdown because rent was too expensive plus I was removed from my old job. This car help me to get back on my feet until I got a nice stable job early this year. I finally put down a mortgage & bought a tiny 1 bedroom apartment. I still keep this car as a reminder of my humble beginning. To me this is the best car in the world & I will never trade in my stepwagon for anything else

Mid 90s to mid 00s Hondas have such great quirky interior features, like the cover of the vestigial spare tire well in the back of my gen2 CRV being a little folding card table. Sadly all the automakers seem to be interested in now is just adding more electronic crap rather than carefully designed (or at least cute) physical quality of life features.

My daughter totaled my 1999 CRV while she was in college but I still have the fabulous (and very sturdy) folding table.
Mount a flat screen in the back and a few string lights and you got yourself the ultimate chill-out place.

I love this stuff. As a Mechanical Designer I'm sure I'd have a field day designing all those mechanisms to work so smoothly together in that minivan. Car companies should bring this kind of stuff back. People who drive minivans would love this stuff in a modern vehicle.

Fun fact: some stepwagon model also came with a built-in tent that attach to the roof and can be extend out and close in, it looks like an observation deck and can accommodate 2 people in 1 space, the whole thing itself actually become a full fledge camper if you know what to do

Avoid shady importers for sure, however, I always recommend having an import guy that knows paperwork before you attempt yourself - it can save you big time!

Definitely not. After everything is said and done, you could be paying 2.5 times the amount the car originally costs. Some manage, but I've tried importing cars myself. It's incredibly expensive.

The Mercedes W124 has something similar, except it pops out of the glove box, so if you take a turn, not only can inertia throw your drink all over you, but the items in your glovebox can hit it too!

@Precisionstriker I know. It broke down with only 30,000 miles because of a bad fuel pump. And my mom's car, which is only 6 years old and is also a Chevy, has all kinds of different brake issues, to the point where I am considering programming a system for the ebrake and just adding wheel spaces instead of brake rotors and replacing the brakes entirely. The suburban is comfortable though.
Add 4wd, rod holders on the roof and a trailer hitch and off we go!
