The Intelligence Squared Economic Outlook with Martin Wolf

2024 is set to be a seismic year. A win by Donald Trump in the US presidential election could upend the world economy. The crisis in Israel and Gaza could continue to escalate and cause turmoil in the Middle East. And the race to develop AI will accelerate as China and the US battle it out for technological supremacy.
Who better to make sense of these unsettling and fast-changing times than Martin Wolf, Chief Economics Commentator at the Financial Times? Widely regarded as one of the world’s most influential writers on the global economy and a multi-award-winning financial journalist, Wolf has been chronicling and analysing geopolitical and economic upheaval for nearly 40 years. He has written five bestselling books. His latest, The Crisis of Democratic Capitalism, maps out the implications of globalisation, technological development and the impact of democratic decline on the global economy. The host is BBC News Presenter Jonny Dymond.

Systemic risk management should be taught at all business and economics schools. Most of the MBAs and Economists dont study Financial risk management, enterprise risk management and scenario analytical modelling methods. They should manage financial (market, credit, liquidity, ALM, Operational, etc) and non-financial risks using data science, machine learning, predictive analytics and Artificial intelligence.

Best interview I have heard from Mr Wolf Who seems to be getting away from wealth transfer solutions and thus more open to intelligence led radical, structural, change.

He’s a great man, Martin Wolf and he’s right that what America does will change the World. I hope they leave NATO now, because I think they are going to do it at some future point. This is about as good as it gets.

If they leave NATO, they'll have to rescue Europe from itself once again within a generation. WWI, WWII, Cold War--all successful American rescue projects for the nihilist continent.

I actually dont' think Wolf is right about Labour and Starmer. I think at this point, all we can do as a country is put out trust in him and his team. There really is no other option. Will he lose the next one to some right wing populist? No, I don't think so. I think the British public has had quite enough of that. I think a prime minister and cabinet that roll up their sleeves and get on with the job and start fixing the vast number of problems our country has is what we want, and I don't think we expect to see the sunny uplands in 12 months.

I really enjoyed Martin Wolfe's book The Crisis of Democratic Capitalism. He elucidates the numerous problems inherent in capitalism while not really offering much in the way of solutions. Nevertheless, it is a great read.

What he had to say at the 1:11:58 minute mark about Fascism being the natural state of Human Socio-Political structures was good. It was right at the end of the video. For the record I'm in favor of Caesarianism.

@@post-industrialpeasant3190 For a bit of amusement, you could read the first paragraph for Wiki's entries on fascism and communism. Then consider what such regimes actually have done in history. Despite what outsiders like Wolfe say about the state of the West, it is clear that the degeneration of the last century must end or Western civilization will end. But, is the West still capable of producing a Caesar?
