The INSANITY Of Saudi Arabia

Спорт

Saudi Arabia is now home to a growing number of European football stars. A crazy development that stretches far beyond the realm of football. I think we have to talk about it.

the fact Santos was supposed to be the biggest club in the world at its time. They're acting like Spain's Royal Capitalism money didn't play a big time in their success. While Chelsea like spending 600m+ in a mid-season transfer window isn't as controversial. I still don't support Saudis, yet it's ironic, isn't it?

@@MotuBiral the difference to be fair is that these clubs are buying players only because of their oil money. There is no heritage or real competitiveness in Saudi Arabia. So yes it sucks that top talents always get sold to Europe, but at least the quality of football in Europe is the best in the world. The difference with Saudi Arabia is that their league is 66th ranked in the world, they only have money to offer. Having young talents sold to them would be a waste. That’s why players like Vinicius Jr. have a release clause of 1 billion euros

The Chinese team probably used only Chinese players whereas the Saudi and other Middle Eastern teams often bring in players from Africa and they get dual citizenship. This is really common with Olympic sports as well. Does Saudi Arabia have a youth football infrastructure built up? Does China? Efficiency, stability, and lack of corruption of such a system could definitely improve their chances of discovering and nurturing talent at home. Unfortunately, in some countries, like Mexico and Nigeria, there is so much corruption that actually hinders the cultivation of talent. There's a channel that has a video on this and I think it's HITC Sevens (seven countries that should be better at football).

The reason why people try to bash Saudi is because its a legit threat. Even at China's Peak they didn't sign players as big as this. Plus we will never how the China project would have truly unfolded since Covid cut it short Plus even before signing all these players a Saudi already made it to the Final of the past 2 AFC champions leagues. Even beating South Americas team In the Klub world cup and only losing 5;3 to real Madrid. Additionally a Al Hilal/Al nassr team only lost 4:3 to PSG. Keep in mind all this is before the massive investment. If they keep this up and start develop their own talents and sign younger players this can become a legit Asian Heavyweight league

All the players that play for saudi are homegrown and tend to only play in the local league but still the national team is pretty good and is only behind japan's national team in terms of number of asian cup wins.

Ronaldo has a net worth of $500 million. Players like Benzema, Kante and Firmino were earning more far more money in a week than most of us earn in a year. They were hardly on starvation wages in Europe Hell, even the lowest earners at Nottingham Forest are rich as shit compared to the average person. All these players could've hired a semi decent accountant/financial advisor and they're families would've been set for life Not to mention even after retirement, they could've made plenty of money through management, coaching, punditry and sponsorship deals. Moving to the Saudi League is selling out there's no two ways about it

Imo, there’s a huge difference between the csl and saudi. The csl were essentially the government pushing businessmen to pursue football, and it was going well until they decided that football wasn’t worth it. We saw the effects of that across europe and not just for the csl where chinese backed clubs suddenly faced alot of financial trouble, ie, wolves, inter etc.. Saudi on the other hand is the government itself investing in these clubs, not them asking or incentivising their businessmen to invest in the saudi league. If it fails, it would be a slap in the face for the country itself and not just towards the league so i don’t see the gov pulling out in the next few years. And perhaps more importantly is that saudi clubs and the league itself is actually one of the most established leagues outside of europe. Heck they have the most asian champions league trophies (afc) and the most clubs winning said trophies. They don’t need any help establishing their league in asia or in their own country unlike the csl

The idea here is, for years, Saudi clubs have been draining the Saudi ministry of sport costing them hundreds of millions in player purchases and salaries. In return, the money coming from TV deals, shirt and ticket sales is very little. The plan is simple, for 4-5 years, invest heavily in the league hoping to raise the profile and secure TV deals that will make the league self-sustainable.

I think the Saudi League won't be attractive without overpaying players, because there is no Champions League there. Beyond money, I think the prospect to win the Champions League, or in some cases playing for some famous clubs, is the biggest pulling factor for top class players to move to foreign clubs. And I don't see the second happen in the relatively short term. Though the league might get more attractive in the long term for players with closer cultural ties to Arabia than Europe, who might value that more than the Champions League.

Europe has bin plundering South American leagues for decades. The English, Spanish, Italian, French, German leagues have also bin plundering the smaller European leagues. Simply take a look at teams like Ajax or Anderlecht. But they all had watch there best players leave. Something that really became a problem from the 90's. Now those teams are at the point that English and Spanish clubs start giving big contracts to 14 year old boys. Causing them to lose talents before they ever made the first team. There are several international youth tournaments and in general Ajax or Anderlecht perform very well against teams like PSG, Real Madrid, Chelsea,... But they often don't have the financial power to retain those young players and lose them at an age were there value is not yet that great. So don't really feel sorry for the Premier League or the Primera Division teams. In the end this just might give more chance for local players to brake through in there own league. in the longer run this might be a win.

Since 2014, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has not only developed some players well, but also created tiers of football with promotion/relegation starting next season, and also focuses on women's football. I know people will say there isn't investment etc. and will think I'm biased as an Indian, but it is worth having a look on how it plans out on expanding football with grassroots

This is very different from what chine or MLS tried to do. This is a huge long term project. Saudi has a huge football heritage, large fan bases for the teams, enough money to back up the plan and a huge following from fans in the region and other arab countries. Saudi already dominated asia both on the national and club level, saudi is also responsible for creating the continental cup and the whole world have seen how the Saudi people are passionate about the sport in the 2022WC.

  • @raoufrays8339
    @raoufrays833910 ай бұрын

This is long analyse for this case wich I brought from one of the best and largest football content creators in the arab region, in case you want to see a different view on the topic. To start anything, we must first admit that with every new thing that appears in the world, skeptical voices and critical voices will inevitably appear. And if we analyze the case of Saudi Arabia in a neutral way, far from bias or hypocrisy, there are several reasons that make the Saudi project unique and very different from other projects such as China, the most important of which are: The sports culture, especially related to football, in Saudi Arabia is very strong and can be compared to the major leagues. The Saudi public’s passion for their league is very large, and this can be seen clearly in the number of evening talk shows that are shown at prime time related to the Saudi league, which reaches up to 9 programmes. In various channels, whether governmental or entertainment, and these are not dedicated sports channels, but rather have multiple contents, and therefore football made the media recognize and decide that it is the best content to attract youth and people in general in Saudi Arabia. In terms of competitiveness, the Saudi League is very good. Every year there are at least four competitors in the league, and black horses always appear at different times of the season. And whether it is large or small clubs, you will find a real and passionate fan base for these clubs. There stadiums are full and the sports shops that sell T-shirts and the like are full of life as well. Therefore, with the fan base and the great demand for football in Saudi Arabia, raising the quality of the league by bringing in big names is a real and serious investment. Saudi Arabia is also able to transform into the Premier League for the region, which attracts Arab football fans in the Middle East, and this is a good expansion path in the near future because other Gulf leagues in the region suffer in attracting fans despite the good infrastructure, which makes Saudi Arabia a unique case in the region. . On the other hand, China does not have a real passion for local football. Rather, the fans there focus on major leagues such as the English and Spanish leagues. The biggest and most famous sport there is basketball. Also, the reasons that China made the investment are different, the first of which is the political fear of the global popularity of football, which is easy to use as a platform to broadcast political messages to the Chinese people, and this is possible, and it can be seen in the Russian-Ukrainian war and the use of European football in it, as well as in the story of Mesut Ozil with Arsenal for those who wants to search. And another goal of China in bringing in players was an exhibition goal, as mentioned by many international sports magazines, to show China's economic and purchasing power and financial liquidity, as an attempt to attract investors to China in general, not the football sector specifically, and this is also different from Saudi Arabia, which sees this investment as a National and economic Long-term plan. Therefore, the question should be: What is the similarity between the Chinese and Saudi leagues instead of what is the difference? There is a complete difference in the structure of the league, its passion, its importance to the country, its popularity, and the view of football as a sport in the two countries. Therefore, the only real similarity is the presence of both leagues in Asia and their attraction to big players at higher prices than normal, and this, of course, will annoy european clubs. Investing in big players with huge media attraction should not be considered bad as well, saying that they should invest in academies first instead ( which they do in reality), because raising the popularity of the league like this is the fastest way to make it grow in market value and global fame and it is also beneficial in itself to those academies and the entire football sector around it.

What confuses me is the long-term goal of this project. If the goal is to improve the quality of Saudi Arabian football players, then unfortunately I could see this project ending up like China for a reason that is similar which is less game experience for local players (especially forwards) which will stunt their development and the current gap in ability between foreigners and Saudi players (non national team players) are quite huge but not to the extent of when China did the same. Personally, I can't wait for the results of this project and I wish good luck to Saudi Arabia and countries outside of Europe who tries to improve their own league in order to call football the "World's Game" once again.

First of all lets not forget about the fact that saudi-arabia's league is not really that good compared to teams in europe and the countrie itself buys the players. For example in an interview toni kroos said that karim benzema didn't even knew which club he would join after saudi arabia contacted him. And if the league really wants to improve they should focus on scouting and forming young talents from their own country instead of buying expensive oldsters. Even Saudi arabia itself realised that their own league is irrelevant and thats the reason why they bought newcastle

The major problem for Saudi Arabia will always be the Champions League. Winning that as a star player is probably worth even more, then what the Saudis can pay you. Not necessarily in salary, but in commercial opportunities and brand value. Cristiano Ronaldo would have never gotten all those Instagram followers, had he not won the Champions League on a somewhat regular basis. And the best players will always aspire to win this competition. So yes, some of the talented, but leaning more to the lazy side, players will go to play in the desert. But they will mostly get old and washed up players, that don't really make a difference in the Knock-Out Stage of the Champions League anyhow.

You know what? The biggest critics come from Europe. The same continent which has taken the best talents of South America since the 90's. We fear Saudi Arabia will do the same to us. This project has better promises than China for various reasons : - Public money. This is a national company funding some of these clubs. The royal family will make sure it will work. -Passion and History. These teams are among the best in Asia. Al-Hilal is the record-winning team in the AFC Champions League. People are huge fans of football and the last WC showed it. -Culture. The average player feels, more or less, more connected to Saudi culture than Chinese culture. Even a tiny salary raise with the promise to live in the cradle of Islam can be for any Muslim person to go there. -CR7. While there were some good foreign players who were in KSA for many years, CR7 is a stepping-stone. Many will come. -Super League. This one isn't likely to happen right now. If the Super League is created and you add 2-3 KSA teams to European teams, players will have the opportunity to get a big cheque while playing high level football. Let's see where it will go.

I forgot to mention, women can't uncover themselves, women can't get an education, you can't say anything about islam without being severely punished, all white women deserve to be punished anything else I have missed?

sorry to kind of criticize but adding criteria such as passion, history, and culture will not cut it in this kind of discussion because it is a very subjective thing to analyze. the public money was spot on though and i feel that saudi arabia won't back down in investing like china unless there is an economic disaster there (which let;s be honest, won't happen during our lifetime at least).

When the Saudis or the AFC creates the real "Super League" UEFA teams will start to fall apart. I bet that Florentino is already lobbying for it with the EAU/Qatari/Saudi governments.

As a Canadian, I support the SPL heavily. I appreciate their attempt to shake up the norm and foundation. Let’s go Saudi habibi!

Yeah, screw the Europeans. Theyve dominated long enough. Also helps the profile of the Asian Champions League. Honestly, i want America and Asia to rise to compete with the Europeans.
