I have a 2020 LTZ Duramax 3.0. I AVERAGED 26.6 mpg (hand calculated) over the first 50,000 miles with an app that documented every drop of diesel that went in it. It IS a significant difference compared to the gas counterparts.

When I saw the title re Inline 6 not dead, i thought immediately of the 4.2 L straight 6 gas motor that I enjoyed in both a trailblazer and an envoy... That was an awesome motor! Variable exhaust, lots of power, and durable. I put over 400,000 km (240000 miles) on both with no issues, and I drove those hard! Pair that motor with a modern transmission and i think they would have a winner on power, MPG and durability.

Thx for the great REVIEW , my nephew bought his 2022 GMC 1500 4x4 SLE package with the 3.0 diesel and uses it tow the trailer for his industrial electrical business and laughs when he passes the fuel station , empty he has been averaging over 30 .5 mpg to our Canadian gallon and it has never failed to start this winter and we set a record for the most number of days below -30 degrees and it started every day, its a great engine

I purchased the baby diesel for towing my RVs, being able to go farther between fill-ups when in tow, and most importantly.....being able to fuel up in the big rig lanes in tow without having to maneuver around cars and tight gas stations. I didn't need the HD platform, I like the 1500 ride quality, I simply wanted a better fueling experience when towing. I believe the diesel was several thousand dollars more, so I could buy a lot of regular gas with that money. However, after spending 35 minutes boxed in a gas station with my travel trailer behind me while some idiot in front of me decided to get gas, not move from pump after fueling up, eat, and whatever else he did for 35 minutes, I knew it was time for a change. My intent was never to "save" money in MPG, I want to save aggravation.

As i said in another forum i turned my leased 2021 gmc crew with 5'8" bed in early. Excellent powertrain but the suspension was soft and didn't handle loads well. New 2022s allow you to order max tow and that incorporates several suspension and axle changes. That may be a winner if gm ever put a larger fuel tank on. They are half stepping in my opinion and thus i think the ford f150 with Heavy Duty Payload Package is a more compelling vehicle for guys like me who desire a tweener truck.

If you waited 13 months, that's because the dealership didn't tell you they were putting you on their waiting list. They can't order from GM 13 months out right now. Once they've filled their max order for a certain vehicle, they can't order any more until the next month. That's all on the dealer for not finding you a dealership that could get you one sooner.

Well it only took GM 35 years to bring back a 1/2 ton diesel. They sold em like crazy back in the 80's in the Midwest to people who know how to take care of and operate diesels. Now the price of new vehicles has gone out of sight!!! I don't see myself ever getting rid of my 05 Chevy 1/2 ton 4X4. No power anything and 5-speed baby. A real truck that cost LESS THAN 20k out the door in Feb 2005. Hipsters driving 70K trucks to whole food stores can read it and weep.

If the truck can merge onto the freeway towing a max load fast enough to not be a menace to traffic, ITS FAST ENOUGH. I drive a 2018 STX 4x4 crewcab with the 2.7L ecoboost. With these modern boosted power plants ( both gas and diesel) (Whether you like Fords or Chevys) you would a fool to leave efficiency on the table with a NA V8. Trucks and turbos go together like peanut butter and jelly. The only thing I wish the big three would do is offer the diesel motor in lower trim levels. Over at Ford the lowest trim you can get with a diesel is a Lariat As much as I love Ford trucks, If I could get a 4x4 crewcab Silverado custom with a duramax and a 10 speed I would switch.

Sorry, but I wouldn't choose a new GM pickup over a new Ford pickup, regardless of how good a deal GM offered. On the other hand, I would never buy a Toyota either, no matter how "reliable" they may or may not be. Toyota has been mimicking Ford ever since their Ford copycat beginning, so no thanks. I'm not suggesting that Fords are flawless or anything, but the proof is in the pudding in terms of their overall quality and customer satisfaction and loyalty. My 2015 Ford F150 FX4 has a 2.7L Ecoboost with 185k miles, never a mechanical failure, nor even a warranty claim, and she still runs like a BEAST! Tough crowd below. Those that own one and posted below averaged 26 miles to the gallon is accurate. In the review they posted 21? I have three family members that have one, and average 25 to 28 MPG. One who pulls a 16' twin axle trailer gets 23. Not a big fan of the LTZ, too much money for the option. My wife's that we pick up today is an LT with every option but cameras and leather and MSRP is $59K which is $14K more than my sons 2021 which has the same equipment, but the market is just messed up today. My wife's 5.3 LT has averaged 18 to 19 MPG for the 76,000 miles. Even though there is almost a $1 a gallon difference between gas/diesel with the difference in fuel mileage the diesel is still cheaper on fuel. Def usage is minimal on the 3.0 versus the 6.6 Duramax. Izuzu has been making diesels for delivery trucks for 40+ years. Somethings people forget before Chevy and Ford got with Japanese companies it was check the gas and fill with oil every 200 miles. I remember the Cummins inline 6 from the 90's. I was sitting at a red light in 2001 with my new 6.6 duramax when one pulled up next to me and it was so loud I no longer could hear my engine nor the radio with my windows rolled up. The only positive thing was the 22 mpg and they lasted. At 21 years old and 300K miles my 6.6 is still taking me to work when I need a truck.
